my thoughts exactly that moving the arches would, perhaps in the long run, be the best way to go... great work here! JP It's a way that's in opposition to my personal engineering OCD, and that's a fight that will go on for a bit. It may win out due my other projects that I am required to give attention to time will tell. This thing is painfully cool, and the attention you're lavishing on it is fantastic to see. Love it! Cheers - appreciate the support.

if you don't think you can improve on the front suspension , then reshape the arches... but if you think you can .....

Whilst we are in the middle of all this fibreglass work on the G15 I figured I would produce a dash panel for the Gemini - May well make two so one can go with the 1300 when I move it on. CAD template - will probably end up more curved in that central section to give it a more organic shape more in keeping with the rest of the car. Scribble on it the general layout for the gauges etc. nod at it in approval and then go and make a mug of tea. The rad installation has not progressed that far as I have been concentrating on the G15 works and also had a fuel tank to put in the L200 - next job for the L200 is a new exhaust so that will also eat into project play time. Today is also going to be light on available project time as I have a wedding reception to attend.

Dash manufacture continued today alongside works on the G15. The dash will probably end up with a crackle black finish but we decided to use up the aluminium metallic pigment in the gel coat and the resin during the lay up to see what it comes out like. I want the dash to be a little flexible as there are gently curves where it mounts so this is quite a lightweight laminate of just gel/surface tissue and a single layer of 600gm CSM. I have however added couple of extra 300gm patches where the 3 clocks in front of the steering wheel and the 2 main large clocks are situated so that the laminate in that area has a bit of extra stiffness. Board prepped and materials cut to shape. Gel coat applied Resin and done Leave it until Wednesday to fully cure. Materials - the dash panel is about .25sqm Gel weight was 150gm Cloth was 180gm Resin 500gm

The second dash was far more successful and the clear gel and tinted resin with the surface tissue produced a reasonably uniform 'Aluminium' finish - I will hasten to add that this will not be the finish in the car,the dash will get a coat of texture black finish - I may even see what a rolled finish using poly topcoat comes out like! Plain grey one to be produced next.

And a Grey one was produced Gel surface tissue 600g and 300g - looking like the one I may well use. Will see if that's the case Wednesday. One bite at a time....

Trimmed the aluminium gel finish dash roughly to size and dropped it in. The Grey gel dash came out very well and that will also get trimmed to size this week. Running a bit behind program at the moment due not feeling great after a Flu jab but things are improving just for the temps in the garage to drop to FF.

A month of no updates on the Gemini's - shows up how much effort has been put into the Ginetta's these past months. So a bit like Santa - its about time I started to make a list to work through - and in no particular order whilst I sit here and listen to London Calling - released today 40 years ago. Trim all 4 wheel arch returns Complete welding on the front chassis section. Rebuild OSF Caliper Re-route front brake line Paint engine mounts Rub down and paint surface rust on chassis Complete fitting of new headlamps Trim dash to size Fabricate additional rear harness mount Wire front indicators Fit rear boot lid hinges Fabricate radiator mounts Fit new rocker cover Fit new T-Stat housing Measure up for and order new cooling hoses Order new tyres Fit stick on plates Progress fabrication of egg crate grille That will do for now. What an album.

I still have my vinyl copy of London Calling....what a great record, so much going on in that music, lots of different strands and sounds all coming together. Poor old JoeS left us too early. I only got to see them live once, on the Combat Rock tour, and by then things weren't so good.
I continue to be amazed by your productivity on all these projects and appreciate how you're demystifying fiberglass and composites for us. Best, John

Best, John Likewise - Great album and the title track is a classic - I saw them at the Lyceum with Wall of Voodoo and The Anti Nowhere-League IMSC - I do recall my mate getting hit in the head by a wooden clog being hurled around the place. Not sure if that would have been at the time of Sandinista rather than Combat Rock. Yes these projects do keep me busy. - As they will today.

Started working down the list. Brakes first - line re-route and rebuild of the caliper. Started that by chopping into the line and draining the m/c Then removed the caliper And dropped it on the bench to remove the dust shields which must have given up on that job when still fitted to the Escort - it was also quite easy to see what one was sticking. One piston dropped out reasonably easy - even though totally shot - but the other one is going to be more of a challenge. I may see the welder being employed for that one. For now it's soaking up some WD. I also: Started on forming the outer alloy frame for the grille Dropped the new t'stat housing on Removed the new front chassis frame so that I can make up rad mounts Masked and marked the OSF arch for trimming. More tomorrow evening and probably all weekend.

looks like a useful flange for sealing if the hinges could be located better; hinging in the corner recess or front edge, rather than the rear.

Its useful in the original application on the Midget with a solid steel door and a rigid quarter light closing a rubber seal into it, seal and runner already removed, but for use with a flappy side screen it gets in the way of what I want to do.

Work on the 22nd did not materialise as I was assisting with some works at the Daughters place and the 23rd was over getting a V8 running so after a slow start to the day I did a couple of hours on the Gemini. Started off by turning the template I made for the harness mounts into steel parts. Welding will not be an easy task but I have had to deal with worse. Next up whilst I was sawing and drilling 40 x 3mm strip was the lower mounting bracket for the Golf radiator. Plan of attack is now in place for most of the tasks so Xmas should afford me the time to complete the greater majority of them.

Blues skies today so a great opportunity to get the final bit of cutting drilling and welding done on the radiator mount fabrication. Cut some support webs - not really 100% necessary but it makes it look right - with plenty of holes in the way of weight compensation. Tack, check compare check again. Check, tack Tack, check Weld. Dropped the grommets in once it had all cooled down enough and a final check with the rad fitted confirmed good enough. See if I can get welded to the chassis tomorrow.
