See where you are coming from with the rectangular style - I have plenty of material so can soon build another if it does not suit. The squarer type looks a bit too regular for me and probably fitted to more production vehicles in volume whereas the horizontal rectangular type for some reason to me states low volume / handbuilt / exotic / desirable vehicle - no idea why my brain thinks this but it does

You have bought another? This time with a big motor? ... Please say yes! Okay then if you insist - Yes, I have purchased another. Well - you would, wouldn't you, although I really do have quite enough to be getting on with. Also it does indeed have a larger.... .... uber rare Cologne 2.8EFi ? Manufactured for one year only by all accounts ! - not sure that is such a great thing TBH - A bit on the strangled side with only 150BHP - but it should sound quite nice.

Does it still have the siamesed ports?
I always thought the cologne was a bit rubbish because of them.
I remember years ago in, I think, Fast Lane magazine they had a XR4i which they spent a mountain of money on ‘tuning’ the engine by conventional methods, cam, porting etc etc and it made next to no difference to the power.
Still, it should go half alright in something that weighs as much as a packet of crisps. 😀

Yep, one year only (the 2.9 with the correct number of exhaust ports replaced it) and substantially better than the carb and MFi versions in terms of driveability.

The induction gear looks like it used to be quite sought after for the earlier 2.8's, especially for those looking to go the turbo route. Appears to be one of the best options for the 2.8 if looking to grind a little more power out of it. If matched to a V6 type 9 and a 3.54 diff it could be a potent combination.

In a previous itteration of my Granada when it still had the 2600 V6 cologne engine, I actually retrofitted that 87/88 (I thought over here it was a 2-year feature) efi system from the 2.8i onto the 2.6. It was pretty doable although slight differences meant small changes to valve covers etc. It made my vresh 12.640 original KM engine more than fast enough and with a great sound as well. Also the carb on the 2.6 needed tuning for every season to be optimal, since adding the efi from that 2.8i engine, the ecu took care of all that and it always started, ran and idled for as long as you liked without hesitation. Made the car very fun to drive with a type 9 5-speed box with long gears.

The first shot at the pumps - same view as near every car I buy. And a quick calc of the transmission specification shows that they should work well and a change to 195/50/15 tyres will not change the figures. Tuck it away now until I decide what to do with it.

Just found that on eBay, looks like good value! I couldn't tell from the listing, but does it come registered or will it need SVA?

Just found that on eBay, looks like good value! I couldn't tell from the listing, but does it come registered or will it need SVA? It was a no brainer at that price. It's an unfinished kit so no documents and would require an IVA. It was bought new about 20 years ago and the seller had not worked on it for 10 years so had come to the realisation - approaching 60 - that it was not ever going to get completed and that he would like the space back in his garage. Not an unusual story and 60% of the projects I buy are from similar situations. I have had a quick look over it and I would need to strip it right back and near enough start again so it could be more of a donor for the other two cars than anything else.

Back in the early 1990's, I found myself needing a roomy and comfortable 4-door car, so I went out and bought a lightly used Sierra 2.8i 4x4 Ghia Estate with a Turbo Technics kit on it. I never got it dyno'd but the the previous owner told stories of it being a bit special and apparently used as a development car, he reckoned 'over 300hp'. I doubt that this was true, but it really was alarming quick when you prodded it, not just 0-60, but 50-130+ in 5th was insane at the time, hugely flexible and torquey. It made nice noises too and was pretty frugal to run. I eventually traded it in on a Sapphire Cosworth which until it got the GGR treatement felt quite slower and rather dull.

agreed on the 5th gear pull on the tt 2.8 conversion. a mate had a 2.8i special capri with the tt kit on it and it was phenomenal!!

The Gem would be well under half the weight of the 4x4 and about half the weight of the 2.8i so it should be quite nippy even without any further tuning. If its dry over the next few days I may even throw a battery on the thing and see where the builder got to with it.

that vaguely remembered v6 magazine build was a gerard seur[ SP redline tuning i think] build where they got Swaymar to fit 6 port heads to a 2.8 cologne engine. As i was only a kid i didn't buy the subsequent magazines to see what happened
