Hey,
So I've been chatting with some people about paddock ideas for next year's Weekender (which is currently all planned to go ahead!) and I thought I'd throw open a thread to see if anyone had any ideas that would gel nicely with what I already have planned for the next few years. You see I'm trying to juggle the different strands of what we love here at RR so that each three paddock group conveys the cross section of what we're about.
So, if you could see a paddock of up to 30 cars what sort of theme would you give it?

How about an iconic section?

Modified british classics might fit quite well, pre 1970 or '80 perhaps? Or classic/vintage/historic british racecars including touring cars and oval racers such as hotrods, stockcars

30 years of retro? In year order, perhaps the best/ worst/ rarest?

eclectic. Thats what retrorides is to me and what i love about the forum, which is why i'm still on here after a good while and don't participate in any other forums.
To me the forums linking theme is retro but built on that is a full spectrum of awesomeness.
Do a mix crossing a whole range of cars from pristine / exquisitely restored standard old, through more modern end of retro, to lightly modified with people's first foray into modifications, into heavily modified, and on to the out and out crazy mobiles.
You could invite applicants against categories then let the community vote who get one of the 30 slots.

Hooking a couple of these together maybe a Legends Of Retro type thing? So we can go across the board from things like John Beardmore's Minor to Cedric Lowrider etc. etc.

Opposites maybe? As in, a lowered to the max Lotus Esprit on mad wheels, nose to nose with a relatively standard one? A minty truck beside a monster-truck version. An award winning Jowett back to back with a freshly dragged out of a hedge version. You get the jist I'm sure. Juxtaposed, I suggest as a title.

No bad idea yet.
"What you like, but not how you think" which would take some careful choosing, but iconic cars in not the usual style. A low rider mk2 escort, off road Lincoln, show stopping 200sx, drift style morris minor. Scmicks Simca might fit the bill, as would the ever famous landrover, not sure who owns it now, there's a racy London cab on these pages too.
You could just pick a selection of three strong themes, but then you really would miss out on that cross section of variety.

'that' green etype would fit the bill too. A carefully chosen cross section of modified, well built, classics. Not a specific theme, just a focus on how it should be done slightly differently.

I love this place because it is so eclectic - but trying to break that into themes (by era, standard v modified, etc) feels against the "Everything has potential" vibe. My feeling is that there's no obvious divide, due to the very nature of the forum (and long may the diversity continue)

Good stimulus so far for sure, some ideas here that would definitely work.
Some other thoughts:
Concept cars : does what it says on the tin.
The Japanese invasion : 60's to 80's cars that represent that era when Japanese cars took on and beat BL, culminating in the bonkers turbo cars.
Vauxhall : take the heritage collection and augment it with iconic race cars and custom/retro cars (Hillmerson Manta etc.)
The Red room (or green or blue) : take the concept from Haynes and remake it in a paddock
Paneuropean : one car manufacturered in every country in Europe (or as many as we can!)
Legends of Volksworld : like the Street Machine line up but if gives me an excuse to find out where Brian Burrows Squareback is now.
BTCC through the ages
Legends of Rallycross
Berg Cup ....
Think of the paddocks as areas in a museum, I intend next year to have museum style info boards for each car.

The thing I enjoyed most about the weekender was the variety:
Lowriders next to hot rods next to race cars.
I think all the suggestions above are good, as long as they are combined to give the broadest spectrum you're onto a winner.
I'm also 100% pleased it's on again next year - congratulations!
Edit: how about some VSCC stuff? Especially for track time

Just a quick heads up I will NEVER... EVER do a Max Power themed paddock, I'll leave that to someone that enjoys that absolute horror of a scene

I like the BTCC paddock Idea. What about further magazine curated paddocks, Retro Cars, PC maybe. Or a mini show area from the likes of Players or Wheel Whores or something. Might be quite fun to have a lifted paddock, it would be cool to have some interesting off roaders with one corner up on a stump or ramp or something around the middle. Or a nationally themed one maybe, Russian/Eastern block would net a cool mix of modded and stock, Japanese would be excellent.

Mabie if there is to be 30 cars, think of 30 styles and try to get the best of the best of each style and type. Slammed, stanced, lifted, high performance, ratlook, obscure thing, race look, cafe racer, bosouko, rare as ###k, 70's custom, cal look, max power/fast car, drag/gasser, euro, offroad, lowrider etc etc etc
Just a total cross section of the sort of thing you'd find on this forum, but the best of it, the most complete builds.
