I'm sure somebody kinda asked for this. Let's see the 'unconventional' ones. The weirder the better. I'll start with this: The Commer TS3. A 3 cylinder diesel. With six pistons. Two strokes. And a supercharger.

The Beck 1909 engine Beck sounds a rather German name, but in fact Frederic Beck lived in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France. By 1910 he seems to have rethought his engine, and obtained US patent 977,260 for a "rotary explosion motor" using bell cranks and a face cam to drive the pistons.

I was expecting more cool stuff guys! The Napier-Deltic is so incredibly cool. How about Knight engines? They had sleeve valves rather than the poppets we all know and love: They also powered some of the most beautiful cars ever made:

^ paul99 beat me to it, the Deltic was the first thing that I thought of Next up would be the Arial Square4 bike engine. 4 cylinders, 2 crankshafts, a clever design by Edward Turner who went on to do work for Triumph and others !

Some amazing sounding units here. The Commer Knocker is certainly unique in it’s sound. Pokey too, 2 strokes always make more power and torque than their four stroke equivalent.
Deltic is one of my all time favourite engines. Start it in reverse...

Rolls Royce K60. 6.6 litre, 6 cylinder, opposed pistons, 2 stroke, supercharged, multifuel (runs on anything from paint stripper to engine oil), 240bhp@3750, 375lb.ft@2500rpm, makes the same noise as the birth of the universe awesome

The K60 looks really similar to the Commer Knocker. Like it.
I used to work in Oil and gas and I've seen some really weird stuff that I can't find on Google - once I saw a diesel engine where the end cylinder was an air compressor...

Radial engines are fairly conventional, unless they're in a car. When you turn them on their side they become even more unconventional. This is the only video I can find of it running. The only other info I can find on it is from here: blog.axisofoversteer.com/2014/03/mysterious-radial-engined-race-car.html"This revolutionary prototype was created in 1936 by an engineer from Antibes (France). Mister Guidobaldi had invented a shock system to lean the car in corners to give more speed, like a motor bike. This car uses a 8-cylinder two-cycle "radial" engine with a compressor and desmodromic valve. This car was never raced in a Grand-Prix as it was intended too. It was displayed at the museum of automotive at Mougins (06) before being sold in 2008"
