Not much dome this weekend on my own projects - A bit of messing about with a series 2 Landy bashing a tailgate around to get it into a more original shape and assisting my mate with the fuel tank on his Yamaha SDR200. Not even a look in on getting the Stratos rad in. The one thing that I did manage on my projects was continually throwing Imp pump bits in the ultra sonic. Clean and dirty parts An impeller with a good sealing face One with a less good sealing face A seal with a large crack on its carbon face Seals with damaged carbon seal faces From stripping all 4 pumps I have 3 that are salvageable casing and impeller wise - I have a pair of seals that usable and 2 pairs of bearings that will go again. They will get cleaned paired and put in the big box of pump parts. They will get made up when they are needed.

That’s quite some cleanup. What solution do you use in your ultrasonic cleaner please?

Ref jjeffries and DS comments regarding headroom in a G15, this picture clearly shows that it isn't an issue - OK, so I'm a shortie guy at 5'7", but my navigator son is 6'1" and still plenty of room. As DS comments it's partly the style of the seats - modified originals with side harness slots and headrests (courtesy of DS, one of the first things we modifed after I acquired PHX from him...)

Two pictures from the Ilkley Jubilee Rally last weekend run largely on the Catterick Military Ranges - round of the national HRCR Road Rally Championship. Another 5th overall finish, though this time largely thanks to regularity performance rather than the speed on tests. Though not for lack of trying, as is hopefully evident! Full gravel tyres rather than all season M&S would have been useful. Thanks Darkspeed for welding up the exhaust prior to the event - no issues at the noise check!

The latest on the G15 front I picked up a combined single 40 manifold locally for a reasonable sum and logicaluk dropped by whilst on his way back home after collecting his triumph spare haul from Telford to drop a pair of wishbones off. Cheers Bud.

Phone rang the other day, Mrs DS picked it up and handed it over and on the end of the phone was the lady owner of a G15 that she bought new from the factory in the early 70's 50 years in the same ownership! Some bloke with a white G21 had given her my number as she had recently moved from Surrey (I think) up here to Shropshire and needed to find find someone to do some welding on the chassis. Imagine my joy The car lives a few miles South from where I am in the top of the county and last weekend I took a trip down to have a look and see was left of this 50 year old original chassis....

... the only picture I have of the rot are what the owner had sent me by email after speaking on the phone - I was expecting much worse but to my surprise it was limited to these local area's of rot. The plan the owner has for the car is get it back together for travelling to a meeting I think at Goodwood in July - FOS I guess. So that's my next involvement with a G15 - And it will be limited to just doing those repairs no sleeving or triangulating - just a simple repair to get it back on its way. Also turns out that the car has a pair of the stainless window frames that I have modified for others so doing the work on those may be a job in the future.

I have just received a mail from the owner with a photo of the chassis now it has returned form blasting and paint. - thankfully the blasting did not find any further holes. Should keep it going for a few more years.

Always nice to get big bits of work to the paint stage. Even nicer when the blasters doesn't show that your big piece of work is even bigger than you thought

The owner of the ex factory Demo car and I had a bit of luck the other day when I was browsing ebay. A complete set of sunroof parts was on there with 2 days to run, £10 start and no bids. Short version - Won it for £29 including delivery. Turned up Wednesday and very pleased. The factory Demo car had its sunroof filled in for competition way back when and the roof was long gone. The glassfibre workmanship is not all that great it has to be said. I doubt the undulations would have made any difference to the performance which would have been priority over finish. And originally it had the roll back roof G15 Weathershield roofs are bespoke so there are not that many in existence - only a few hundred had them and now over 50 years old. It needs a few parts and a bit of work but its another part to get the car back to original spec.

Epic thread. Many cuppas and at least three packets of Ginger Nuts consumed reading through that lot.
Remarkable that it has nut put me off my urge to acquire a G15. I have 2 or 3 to view over the next week or so with the intention of doing a few historic road rallies. I’d love to see the sump guard on the red rally car if you get the chance to dig out a photo or two.
All the best and keep up the good work Si

All the best and keep up the good work Si PHX is being given a refresh at the moment so there is a chance that bizzo will post a couple of photos of the guard off the car - It protects a bit more than just the sump as it runs from the suspension crossmember to the engine crossmember so protects the entire drive line. IIRC its a slab of 8mm Dural - I am not sure if the body under tray is 2 or 3mm and then the front skid may be 5 or 6mm Well, if you are planning to do similar events to Mike then all the info on how to prepare a G15 is in this thread and likely the Stratos thread as quite a bit went in there before they got separated to cover cars individually.
