We went out last Sunday evening for a run in the van When we got home I put it back in the garage and it cut out I assumed it had run out of fuel as the gauge seems a bit iffy sometimes Today I put a tenners worth in , then nothing, I have a spark and fuel getting up but she’s just turning over One of my pals suggested the crank sensor As i had to help my dad with building his new shed today I asked George If he could take a look when he got home from work today Good lad he’s stripped off the starter motor and removed the sensor tonight And also tightened a few loose bits here and there!! Hopefully I’ll get a sensor tomorrow Thanks son nice quick work again , a far better mechanic than I ever was

Bit of a downer today The problem with the engine seems to be a broken belt tensioner.....less than 100 miles since it was fitted along with a new belt, engine damage unknown yet We’ve pushed it back in the garage and locked the doors George is upbeat about it “Dad it isn’t a problem I’m gonna fix don’t worry “” Me? I’m deflated but that’s my lack of patience and understanding of how a new part can detonate

George sounds like hes on top of it though

Spoken to the parts supplier on the phone today “The cambelt kit you bought was clearance stock so it’s not warranted “” Check my eBay purchases nothing to say it’s not got any warranty A simple sorry we’ll look into it would have been ok with me But now I’ve gone into I’m not having that mode A tensioner to break after less than 100 miles? And fitted by a mechanic with 20 years experience Surely it’s got a manufacturers warranty? Parts will be sent to them for analysis in due course

Dan
At least you found the problem it's when you cannot find the cause it's a problem.
Also stick to one make of belts timing or drive, I always use Gates belts as they will honor any problems after fitting independently of who sold it.
George will know what to look for when something else crops up another time it's all good experience.

The belt kit we used was Dayco Wish I’d bought gates from euros in the first place now

Surley a failure like that will be covered by something. Regardless of it being 'clearance stock', you still bought it to do a job and it failed. At the end of the day its failure had nothing to do with it being clearance stock.

It's a pain and it seems to be all too common for new parts to fail now but looked at objectively the worst case is probably only going to be a few valves and gaskets, plus some free work experience for George.

Exactly what I said to the guy on the phone It’s a motor factors quite large from what I gather I’m not letting it go now, there attitude peed me off!

I’m not letting it go now, there attitude peed me off! I've had this with an eBay purchase, if he hasn't be an about it I would have let it slide as it was £16. But he had an attitude, so we both lost money 😂
