Wonder what the story is behind this one? angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic/saturday-14th-april-2018/unregistered-1991-bmw-750-3-500-miles-from-new/My guess: Car dealer ran it around on dealer plates until he got locked up in HMP for life Or maybe it got imported after it had been driven around abroad, but before the owner got the chance to drive it over here they got locked up in HMP for life It's got to be one of the above, but whichever it is, I think this car is cool lol! Wonder if it would be a nightmare to get back on the road though due to siezed parts???

or - somebody bought in abroad in uk spec (forces or diplomat type person) - and it has been parked abroad somewhere for a long time and only now brought back - hence why not uk registered - it looks like it has had plates on it from somewhere',

Is this not the one that was on eBay a while ago, was clean then.

Is this not the one that was on eBay a while ago, was clean then. Dust suggesting “barn find” or “unusual history” seems to add around 50% to the value of a car going through that auction, it’s worth paying a professional company to add it to a low mileage car. I’m being facetious obviously but also curious to test this somehow?

I'm sure I've seen this up for sale previously as well, I think the story was that it was given new to a College or something which would explain the low miles and no plates
Going off memory though so I could be wrong, but there aren't many E32 750s with next to no miles being sold these days!

If it's the same one that was being sold at Classic Car Auctions it is more of a nail than the photos suggest. Parts have been robbed and alot of the paintwork is in poor order under the dirt. I did take some photos when it was previously for sale. I'll see if I can upload them later. Rumour has it the car was a test vehicle. EDIT: Added them from Tapatalk as the shots are on my phone. It's funny how much dust the car has gathered since the shots were taken in September... www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/bmw-750il--e32-And the original listing. TBH I'm surprised even with the mileage it went for that much.

That sounds familiar, I think i recall the college story, it was on Ebay i think. Back in the mid nineties i was at West Kent College in Tonbridge, and they had a 5 or 6 year old Sapphire Cosworth in the workshops for the students to pull apart that had about 10k miles on it. It had been donated to the college and if i recall was never allowed back on the road because it had been taken apart so often by students. Not sure if that was some sort of legislation or just a sensible precaution by the college! I also recall when i worked for BMW in approximately 2000, the training workshops at BMW UK in Bracknell had a couple of unregistered E34 M5s (among other vehicles) with only a few hundred miles on them which were routinely dismantled and re assembled during training courses. Would love to know what happened to them! Most likely shipped back to Germany and crushed! Also, assuming that 750 has never been registered anywhere, what happens if the new owner wants to register it? Does it go on an 18 plate? Could you even register it as a new car? Normally if a car of this age has been registered in another country then it would get an age related plate, but if it has never been registered then it doesn't work like that. I've been in the motor trade for 20 years and have seen vehicles registered on a new plate that have been sitting around unregistered for 2-3 years but are still registered as new cars. At what age do you draw the line?!

I might get someone to cover my really clean Rekord in "barn" dust and someone might be interested then hahahaha

Emailed the auction house this thread URL - if the history is correct as quoted here they should be informed. Car auctions/sales are a bit like estate agents. They will only advertise the good points, any negatives are for you to find. 1 Owner, for example. If it’s never been registered how can this be proven?

Auctioneers are these to serve investors and help boost their cut. Thus they will focus on the positives and only quote immediately tangible history. If it's a CAT C for instance they're obliged to mention that. But low mileage and low owners is what sells stuff to dealers and investors. The fake patina may be a problem but TBH some investor out there will want it. It's not the only time I have seen this. When I was last at CCA An Integra Type R DC2 went for £9k and IMHO was a £6k car. Yes it had 60k on the clock but was one rough DC2! Everyone I know said the same thing The 750i above went for £7k I saw a 60k E30 325i Sport Coupe with an interior that looked like it had covered at least double that mileage go for £15k. An E46 330i Individual 'vert with 19k on the clock? £13.5k. For a non-M E46. On the flipside there was a clean E30 325i manual there. It looked tidier than the above but it had 172k and it was a 4 door SE. The price? £1.7k. How I wished I signed up for the auction!

garrett I thought exactly the same thing. I was gutted I didn't sign up! I'd have happily paid that for the 325i More Door! OK, it had velour but that kind of works in an SE! I've noticed a few patterns there though -Mileage counts for alot. I've seen a few suspect numbers against the cars. One Jag with apparently 4k on the clock look a little dirty in some areas (engine bay and some parts of the bodywork) but too clean elsewhere. -BMW Individual spec cars fetch a decent amount, especially in the more 'Individual' esque colours. It's not surprising the incentives are there to clock cars or ring 'em.

A test mule, I really hope not as that’s my most feared vehicle description It reminds me of the College workshop cars when I was there. One was an ex development (or something similar) XR2i with very low miles. A pretty desirable car today but It spent its whole life indoors being ripped apart and bolted back together (usually badly and minus a bolt/clip or screw each time) by us kids. I for one hope that car never finds it’s way onto the road again let alone in an auction described as unregistered, 1 owner, low mileage.....
