I was recently asked to value a club members restoration project, the member had purchased the project with the intention of restoring it but a recent health scare and advancing years had him quite wisely considering future options for the car. Duly advised the price confirmed his own estimation of the cars value - I was then asked if I was aware of anyone that would maybe interested in the project - These are a rare little car with only 901 examples built and circa 400 in number surviving today - however less than a handful of unrestored examples remain worldwide - whilst I don't need yet another project in my fleet a deal was done there and then down the phone. It gives me a unrestored example that can be rebuilt to my own standards - so what have I let myself in for ? Virtually untouched since 1980 - barn stored Came with a spare engine on a standard crank & bores Along with 2 spare gearboxes and various other parts - including rebuilt radiator, new battery, 4 front brake cylinders, 2 rear brake cylinders, new brake hoses, suspension bushes etc My favourite method of covered car transport Engine starts on the button & runs Engine fully rebuilt in 1980 with a race cam, ported & skimmed heads and since covered less than 2,000 miles Race history has also come with the car Critically the car is complete - although fitted with the incorrect single seats currently it has come with a complete & original bench seat Also came with original hood & frame, tonneau cover - whilst they all require replacements - original patterns are a scarce find 80,000 miles from new & documented THE PLAN Full restoration - however not just yet - I have a committed diary for clients work plus other irons in the fire for the next 18 months or so - I will go through the car over the next week to list up some of the things that I need to be looking out for in the interim I will swap the seats over for the original bench seat and refit the correct steering wheel - the car is then forming the centre piece of the NEC Restoration Show 'Barn Find' stand 23rd - 25th March 2018 - Hall 4 Stand 230 - so if you wish see the car in the flesh and find out what I am up against you are welcome to come and view it After the show the car will go into safe storage My thanks to my fellow 'Jowetteer' - Theo Gillam who came with me and assisted on our 500 mile round trip to Stockton on Tees to collect the car - we stayed overnight on Monday once loaded and then headed back down country today to unload

You may be able to put a lean to from the work shop across to the back door to cover them all?

Great find, body is easy to remove. You are probably aware of the Jupiter owners club and JCC. Good spares support from both as well as expertise. On my second Jupiter, a 53 SA owned since 81 and fully restored

You may be able to put a lean to from the work shop across to the back door to cover them all? Very unlikely to get this past a local resident of the community (that I happen to be married to) but I am on the case of some local barn storage - hopefully my contact will get the corner of his barn cleaned out in the next month or so and this should resolve my storage issues.

So with time ticking away I need to make the Jupiter look slightly more barn find (No it's not getting listed the Bay of E'Dross) But it's being displayed at the NEC Restoration Show 23rd - 25th March 2018 on the 'Barn Find Stand' (Hall 4 - stand 230) - the previous owner had started to remove some bits and commence straightening it up - first I sorted the temporary fuel supply with a lengthened hose and fitted the can to the chassis member by the bulkhead Ran it up & checked for leaks Next was to remove the red wing which is a good one And fit the old bodged one in green Which looks even more bodged when you view it from the underside Sorted Next was to refit the headlamps / indicators / side lamps Originally Lucas PF770 tribar headlamps were fitted to the Jupiter Obviously also fitted a Armstrong Siddeley model has that is what the motif is in the centre of the offside headlamp All the front lamps sorted and I refitted the 3 bonnet grilles - I want the car to appear mostly complete Next was to remove the non original 1960's style seats (these are available FOC to anybody that wants to collect them) And loosely fit (has in just place it there) the original bench seat - it sort of stays where it's put with the original hood frame stashed to the back of the seat upright to hold it in place Removed the old sports - non original steering wheel (also available FOC to anybody that wants it) Replaced it with a Jowett one of more in keeping with the age of the car Ready for collection by the transport company Just managed to get it covered up before the rain came down - I don't want to loose the dust & debris off it So car 1 sorted, car 2 for the club stand leaves Switzerland on Tuesday morning and comes via my workshop for a few minor bits before the show, car 3 is being transported from North Yorkshire, car 4 from South Yorkshire, car 5 from Gloucestershire & car 6 from a very local to the NEC - Coventry

LOL - It already has its own dust covering and the new tyres & wheels are being replaced by a set of knackered mismatched tyres & wheels when it gets to the show

Bookmarked, and looking forward to this one whenever it does happen.
In the meantime I will certainly have a nosey at the NEC. I was supposed to have my 'barn' (it was a garage) find Celica at the NEC too but logistics and other commitments mean it is staying at home this year.
Will make sure I come and say hello at somepoint.

Funny how green photographs in black and white... ;-)
Will it be going back to it's original colour or will you put something on that you like? As I believe this was meant to be the one you build to your liking?!

Alex - It will be my colour choice - current thinking is that Jowett had a nice Ice Blue Metallic Equally I am also considering a deep indigo blue metallic which was never original to Jowetts but there is a period Jaguar colour that would suit - cant find any pics at present but I will dig something out when I get a min

I really like where you're going with this colourwise, either of the pictured ice blue or an indigo blue would suit it well.
(guess what accent colour we chose for our new house living room only leaving out the metallics, lol)
Oh had wanted to add to my original message: how cool to have a picture of the car when it was brand new!

A lovely colour. Oh, and bookmarked, of course 😊

Now located a pic of Jaguar opalescent dark blue - it presents a few shades darker when out of direct sunlight / strong light conditions Jowett had a similar colour but non metallic - obviously I would prefer the metallic hue of the Jaguar colour and maybe a cream interior with a dark blue mohair hood - should look ok (ish)

the best bit about being over 40 is that due the equivalency factor (1 year passing in what seems like 3 months real time) i will get to see this restoration much sooner than the millennials
