Wishbones are looking great, I’m loving the fabricationwork on this! How come there has been no racing this year? Are they stopping the class/event? Thanks, they are very slightly too big. A little bit of camber with the joint right in, could shorten a bit if necessary. No racing due to lack of venues and a fair bit of inter club bitching I think. If there is no improvement in that area I will get back to building the proper off road racer and enter the Scottish Cross Country Championship with maybe a couple of Northern Off Road Club events also. The main problem with that style of racing is I have no “team” so have to do everything myself. A consequence of being thoroughly unpleasent and having no friends? Ahh inter club bitching is never a great start, everyone should be there for the same reason, not bitching about each other Is it Scotland you are based in? If you ever needed a hand at an event, assuming I was onshore, I could be up for that! Sounds like a great day out to me!

Been busy trying to eliminate bump steer. Basically tack mounting for steering rod on then jack the cat up and down through the suspension travel while noting what is happening on the gage. Then move the mount a couple of mm and repeat the process. Then repeat again and again.... Have it down to 1.5mm movement over the full travel, which I think is the best I can do given my less than ideal work space. The bump steer gauge. How it looks at the moment.

Little update. Made a clamp to hold ball joint together for welding. Holds it like this, Welded up with added grease nipple. Seems to work OK, but time will tell how long it lasts.

There is a part of me that hopes this thing doesn't get to race, simply because it may then end up terrorising the roads!!

Re the bump steer. Mount the link off the wishbone not the chassis.
Great work so far.

Regular readers may have noticed that I have learned how to use the quote botton! Not rocket science but another thing I can do.
Posting been a bit slow recently but should hopefully pick up a bit as the nights start to get dark quicker. I am a bit unsure how to proceed at the moment. Been painting the primered bits so they don't start rusting in the winter. Could go two ways forwards, 1 carry on fabricating, cage would be next then rear bulkhead. 2 put the engine back in and see if I can get it and the gearbox to work.
I am leaning towards no. 2 If it will not run on standard ECUs I think it may be shelved for a while. No spare cash for a standalone, specially if there is no racing to be done. On the other hand a more complete car would maybe make me get a standalone if needed.
What would everybody else do?

I'd go for number one. Gives you time to save for a stand-alone if necessary, or even keep an eye out for a cheap one popping up, and the project is still rumbling on.

OK, as you were the only participant in the poll, your idea wins! Car is now down on all four wheels again, need to decide which stud pattern to go with as front and rear are different.I think the a8 rear calipers will be the ones to use, mostly as they have the handbrake gubbins on them. Tha a3 discs and calipers are a lot bigger though. Busy hacking lumps out of pipe for roll cage, will put up a pic or two soon.

Looks like the a8 rear discs and calipers are the ones I will use. Pic of it on its wheels, bigger ones than it should have, no need to roll arches so far. Bit of progress with the cage, cut a lot of these with the grinder. Which gives me this. Plenty more to do yet though.

Huge lack of progress recently. Moving house and workshop. Small house, big sheds, two yards to hold about 10 cars, single garage , large garden. All on its own down a private road. Should all be done by end of the month. Then back to the important stuff.

House moves always cause huge lack of automotive progress....and they last a long time because you have to learn all over again where you have put "stuff!"........ and where to find other "stuff".

Finally finished moving. House took two days, workshop two months. So hopefully back to it in the new year. Still no prospect of racing though, so might start the 4x4 build. Getting there with Audi cage. Considering what to do with this.

Er, stick in an LS with twin turbos, panel it out and make up some number plates? It looks far too much fun to not drive as often as possible!

V10 diesel with a couple of big exhaust stacks would be cool.

Sell it me ? I can see you've already got a comp motor in the back ground, and let's face it you can only drive one at once.
