I used to use admiral until about 3 years ago when they doubled the renewal for no apparent reason, a few people I know had it like they were trying to cut a number of customers. That said they were decent insurers.

Unlikely, I know, but their quote for my modified Fulvia is very good.

I dropped Admiral when on an autorenew policy it suddenly went to £450 for my RRC, phoning around got me quotes of half that, they said they'd requote me, i told them to sod off, they were just hoping I'd do nothing and they'd make a fat profit.
Wouldn't have minded so much but I'd been a loyal customer for about 4 years

had the same with admiral, loyal customer for around 3 years then all of a sudden doubled my next yearly quote- had nothing bad in my name, and squeaky clean license no claims etc. so shoved them off and went elsewhere. Does seem they will take the mick and try to profit from loyal customers. Not a good way of business I think.

Do quotes starting from a month in advance. I'm just sorting insurance for a car, £550 to start it tomorrow, £455 to start it on 28th of march, pays to sort the insurance a month early it seems,

Admiral are on my 'Never Use Again In My Lifetime' listing - messed me around no end - 'Hagerty' are streets ahead of all other classic car insurers - may not be the cheapest in the market but are very fair with their pricing - It's the service when it goes wrong that makes Hagerty the number one choice - Absolutely no messing about with a claim - very professional & organised - sorted out a claim for me last year straight down the end of the phone - the matter was resolved there & then has I reported the incident - I then undertook a repair instruction on a unrelated claim / vehicle and they were again very straight forward and paid my invoice within days of me submitting it.

I was with Admiral fot my daily and they were fine, even when I made a claim.
With HIC now for the Polo as they were the cheapest when I rang around.

DO NOT use flux.....just a warning read other threads about Them on here and many other car forums Have to say Dan, they've been fine with my six wheel RRC, I had to use them at first since no-one else would cover it, things got so bad that my first question to any prospective insurer was 'Will you insure a six wheel range rover?' and if the response I got was 'SIX wheels ??' I hung up. If you don't know what it is, you're not going to cover it, are you? With apologies to the OP for thread hijack!

I'm using Brentacre at the moment for my Beetle on recommendations from a couple of other Beetle owners. My issue is that I've gone from 40bhp to around 160, which some insurers aren't too happy with for a classic policy. I used HIC once (20 years ago!) and THEY stole my car! 1960 Beetle, got hit in the side and they told me to send it to their "approved repair centre" where it would be repaired and brought back to me. No mention of it being sent to a salvage yard in another county, still with my stuff in it! No mention of them being able to sell it at auction without telling me when or where. No mention of it being damaged further while in the yard. AND they never gave me my excess back despite it being not my fault! Untrustworthy illegitimate offspring, the lot of them.

Whoever you go with make sure that you take out the full legals that they always offer. Yes, it will up the premium but, by christ, you will never know when you are going to need that full protection. I ended up in court last month over an accident that took place in 2016 when an old duffer in a Mondeo tried to wipe me out on a roundabout ( Hardwick in Kings Lynn which is notorious for being a nightmare to negotiate) and then blame me for it. The fact that I had full legal cover helped, really helped. I was vindicated in Court and was proven 'not at fault' which was all well and good but the whole experience was a nightmare from the point of the accident to my day in court. I understand people get irate at the cost of insurance but, seriously, my modern had two airbags ( side) go off, which also meant a new headlining, the seat belt tensioner on the passenger side pulled the wife into the seat which damaged the fabric and the NS rear door took a bash as did the lower rear arch at the base of the door. My wife had severe bruising and needed Paramedic/Doctor attention. That little lot sent the repair bill north of £4k. Add the cost of compo for her genuine injuries and it is going to go skywards towards £6K That is why premiums are going up, modern cars cost a sodding fortune to repair.....as do humans. I'm not suggesting that it is fair to all, it is not, but it is a business reality now. Just be properly covered, there are too many bell ends out there with driving licences.
