hold HOLD ON ! do you mean to tell me ,if you go to all the trouble of making your vehickle spanky and showable , turn up and poink it on the stand ...YOU.don't.GET.A.FREE.TICKET !!!? oh i need a hot bath and a lie down now , maybe even a nurse rub . Whaaaat? No, of course not. Costs a ruddy fortune to use Goodwood. If they said "free ticket to everyone displaying a vehicle" it would just be a massive car park with Retrorides paying for the parking spaces. I was having a chat with one of the guys from the VSCC Owner-Driver-Mechanic series (something I aspire to membership of after my 90th birthday) and he was telling me that they no longer run at Goodwood due to the sheer cost of an event there. Kudos to Mr. Hotwire and team that Retro Rides can field an event (hopefully annual) at the UK home of classic and retro racing. The only sad thing is that I won't be able to fire up the grill on the Sunday (not allowed) and you all will not see me in my awesomeness. Have a picture of a me at the last Gathering at Haynes

I'm busting my RR cherry with this event due to it being so local. If this hadn't happened I'd vowed not to attend any more Goodwood events because it is like throwing your wallet into a threshing machine these days.
I'm already flirting with the idea of making the pilgrimage to Shelsey though in August. My parents live nearby giving me a base. It's just a question of pressing my car that far. I haven't driven it that far since the day I bought it and drove it home. That was a long journey and it threw me lots of issues - which I have since fixed but it still leaves me unsure as to whether I could go that far without getting very anxious.

The last time I took the Goddess to Goodwood I had one breakdown and one flat tyre on the journey there and on the way back we had to stop 6 times to reset the points which means lying on the top of a hot engine & faffing in the dark to reset the points. That's why I went diesel. Currently the most heard cry in the Goddess cab is "Oh Feck! What now?". Shelsey will be a walk in the park for a car as reliable as a Scimitar and maintained by you

I don't "Maintain"... I merely worry things back into compliance.
But yes, I am thinking its high time I undertook a proper voyage. Prior to me purchasing it it had been driven to LeMans and back. Quite how, with no brakes, lights, or many other essentials, I don't know. But it did drive there because I've seen the evidence.

Hi all I’m the Ada that Nik is taking about. As he says, we are by no means friends or have any willingness to want to be friends. I just turn up at his place from time to time to laugh at his misfortunes or break something that mean a lot to him, car related or not. I’m in the process of getting a valid retro rides car (not sure the last one I briefly mentioned once counted) in the shape of a 1967 beetle. Should be mine in a week or so once I’ve sorted out full payment. It’s very standard at the moment but I have some plans for it already but would be great to be able to join in and show it off at the show.

After BNMAC meets at Goodwood are members then asked to resign if they become mates with anybody ? I hope this does not lead to me being blackballed if i apply for membership

If you wanted to join us on the stand you'd be most welcome ... although none of us will be very friendly about it as it's important to maintain friendlessness in order to earn respect from fellow club members. So get yourself a ticket and PM me for the club number if/when you're ready. Yours sincerely, firmly and officiously, The BNMAC Club's president and its eternal emporer.

We at the BNMAC are fatalists and nihilists, and therefore we can only consider the future as an abstract construct embedded in contemporary culture as a mechanism of control. In this sense, the concept of 'future' is as reprehensible to us as the notion of 'friendship'... Another mechanism of control by a hidden elite. I trust this answer reassures you. Yours Sincerely, BNMAC president and eternal emporer.

I've already got a ticket sorted for Ada, O Imperator. I shall register our stand pass things now he's let me in on the secret of what his reg plate actually is. Still not my friend though. Thanks for the ‘warm’ welcome emperor Quatermass. I’m looking forward to showing off my new purchase for the time but what I think Nik is saying here is don’t let me touch anyone else’s car except my own, and even then if there’s an adult present who can help me not to break or damage anything (including niks body parts) Adam

Please... nobody touch any of the modified areas, or even look at them too closely, because they are mostly constructed out of coloured paper and blutack and are likely to come off in your hands.

"We at the BNMAC are fatalists and nihilists, and therefore we can only consider the future as an abstract construct " oxymoron ?

To the casual observer, perhaps. However we are existential nihilists in as much as we feel that the struggle to influence or control the future is futile (Audi Quattro, 1980), and our preferred branch of fatalism is bivalent determinism - the future has already been decided but not yet revealed. Like Shrodinger's cat (Alpine A110 Berlinette 1300G) its course will not be known until it is experienced (at which point I refer you back to existential nihilism) in which case it is perpetually an abstract concept (MG XPower SV) against which we are powerless (Porsche 914) The idea of a better future is a compelling fantasy exploited by the elitist 1% via the promise of self-determinism in order to place a yoke on the common people through the bogus claim of empowerment to shape tomorrow through our decisions today (Ford Sierra XR4i). In this sense, the constructed, modernist media portrayal of the future is an abstract vision for consumers, wifully constructed from seductive signifiers presented today. More to the point though... you seem to assume any kind of effort, of any sort whatsoever, goes into the kind of bilge that is written on behalf of the BNMAC (Austin Princess 2200). The most important thing to consider here is... I'm the Emporer, so I can say what I like nur-nur-nee-nurr-nurr. PS: I worry that discussions of this nature are off-topic for a retro car forum, so I've just been back through this reply and added a few car references. Here's a picture as well

Hey BNMAC people.
There's a month to go. I've landed back to earth with a painful bump after a long easter break and I'm pretty much going to be forgetting all about cars between now and the date.
As things stand we have 11 cars for the display.
The question was asked whether we need to have some signs. At the time the club came into being I had a vision of a totally over-the-top (and ridiculous) club presentation rife with faux-pomposity and absurdity. In reality though I don't think I will have time to even consider painting the letters on a bit of cardboard and sticking a stand on the back.
So I'm firstly asking if we think we want/need anything in the way of a sign (I've never done this kind of thing before so I have no idea how important/useful/helpful it is).
Secondly though... I'm wondering.... do we still want to go ahead with the BNMAC club display or is it not really worth it. In my mind the target number was 12 cars. Then we seemed to be pushing twenty for a while, but the actual number now signed up is eleven. Even though at first I felt twelve was a respectable amount the fact that we virtually went to twenty+ now makes eleven seem a bit small. Again though, I have no real idea.
Do we feel we still want to do it?
And does anyone happen to have an old sign or a bit of material lying around that they could quickly modify into a BNMAC sign if so?
There is a chance I might be able to get back on to making a sign but looking at my hairy schedule for the next month I think I'm going to be working very hard and travelling for work on a fair few weekends too.
