Slammage you might as well have spoken to me in French!! Nodiz? TPS? Trigger wheel? I’m just about understanding throttle bodies and mapping and the you throw that at me😂😂 you can adapt your existing stuff to be more reliable. basically. run a nodiz- 3d mappable ignition in a box tps- throttle position sensor, can be bought from webcon to go on your existing webers trigger wheel - to go on the front pulley to configure the engine orientation/ Top dead centre crank sensor - to pick the cranks from the trigger wheel bit of wiring and you will have a 3d mappable ignition. you can run either webers with a tps retrofitted on or throttle bodies. would be a whole lot cheaper and a little involved but a bit of research and its not rocket science too much

Twin sidedrafts can be reliable, in 23 years of ownership I have only had one issue with a blocked accel pump jet on my elan, it starts and drives smoothly right down to low rpm on twin 40 dellortos (far better than the efi on my aged range rover!). One of the problems with modified engines on carbs is getting them set up properly, not many people out there who know what they are doing now, same goes for the distributor advance curve. very true, also the price of getting a correct distributor to match your cam. from a reputable supplier i.e Aldon and H&H. was expensive but well worth it, hence why some now run megajolt or nodiz to get it bang on ! But I do agree with your points its not simply bolting on unknown pub fact upgrades many don't think of advance curves of a dizzy or timing the cam in correctly and also for the OP sanspeed are not the best tuners I found out. road and race in Essex are where I take mine, and I live 60seconds from Sanspeed..just my opinion based on my experience

The guy who has been helping me with an engine and box swap (more involved than a zetec!) dropped a Zetec in an old ford consul in about 7 days, he knows his stuff, is very competent and could probably help you out if you can get over to Essex. you need to decide (as advised by the guy's) what you def' want to go with engine and box wise as all the rest will be bolt on goodies (again, providing what level you want to go to) and when you know, your half way there. He does not run a major company, just grass roots garage style, your car will be safe, he has the tools and the know how, all you need to do is pm me, i will give you his number and you can go from there.

What i will say (and from experience) is don't be tempted to veer off course too much with all the options of better and bigger heads, bigger pistons, more power, extra torque as this will only keep the project on hold for longer, stick with an idea, and once it's all up and running, go from there. There are enough options out there and proof of all the workings plus the pro's and cons of all the engine choices, by not doing this will end up the you losing a bit of drive and enthusiasm towards your goal. The reason mine has been a bit longer to finish is because i was sold a broken engine, i won't go into details, but a company before me had the car for 3 years (April 2014) and done sweet *u*k all! this guy has had it since April last year, and if the engine was good in the first place, it would have been finished around November last year! Good Luck!

I'm just pleased to see a mk2 Cortina on here. When I picked mine up I was going to throw an RS2000 16v in it but when I found out it was a GT I decided to keep with the Xflow. Which ever you decide, keep us informed, but it would be good to see an updated xflow as they do look right at home in a mk2

It’s great that there’s so many options with either the swap or keeping what I’ve got. My inclination is to add to the crossflow and bring it up to date but I’ll also be contacting some of the companies/individuals that have been recommended to do the engine swap. Just need to weigh up costs.
I’ll let you know what I decide to do.
Thanks all.

There is a guy called Nigel Eaton on the mk2 Owners club page on FB who has fitted zetecs into Mk2's for a few people. Might be worth looking him up if you decide to go down that route
