Started the year by picking up a Porsche! Its a D-Reg 924s, Black leather and pin stripe cloth interior, gun metal 15'' teledials and almost completely stock throughout. It has the 2.5 I4 out of the 944 so no need for the misguided 'van engine' comments here! Thought I would start off as I mean to go on by starting a thread straight away, something I've never managed with the mk2 golfs! (I will get round to starting them up soon!) Here's some photos from a damp Manchester night drive the other night.

Thanks! - I did ponder your 924 for sale.. but Kent is an almighty trek! - Looks clean though! I think they are a lovely looking car and drive great. I don’t use mine anymore, but used to use it as a daily before I replaced it with a modern ive been after since it was launched. Looking forward to seeing what happens with yours.

that's very nice, I've got a hankering after one of these even though the last one I bought back in 1989 was the most unreliable car I've ever owned and nearly bankrupted me. Looking forward to this thread.

Looking forward to this thread. Oh God!! - If you don't mind me asking, what went wrong with it? - Hope the same faults don't occur on mine! it was mint condition in gunmetal grey and had full Porsche main dealer history but was just one of those cars that kept going wrong... every month something happened... timing belt snapped, cylinder head gasket went, voltage regulator went and cooked the battery, fuel injection had an intermittent fault that stopped it starting and which I never got to the bottom of, exhaust snapped, power window mech snapped, .... I also has some bad luck... one day I was driving along when some guy was pushing a petrol mower up his gravel drive with the engine running and the blades rotating... this idiot was blasting gravel into the carriageway just as I was driving past and it smashed my side window resulting in another trip to the Porsche spares dept... I took it to the Safari park and the monkeys ripped the sunroof seal out of it (Back to Porsche...180 quid for a new one)...ignition key snapped in the barrel plus loads of other niggles. I owned it for a couple of years as my daily driver and I was on first name terms with the staff at Monarch Porsche spares dept. I stuck with it as long as I could but had to move it on in the end.... when it worked it was a nice car though.... I'd buy another one if i could find a decent on at the right money

I managed a trip over to Llangollen today from Manchester, country lanes most of the way and a short motorway cruise at a nice pace. Headed up via the Horseshoe pass, some great (and clear) roads. The car performed brilliantly, a nice little pop from the stainless exhaust on what changing between 2nd & 3rd . Gave the car a wash, and paint restorer treatment, I'll wax tomorrow morning, (winter daylight hours aren't the best). Heres a few photos from today.

Only a minor update, but some parts arrived over the weekend so I fitted then. Flat aero Hella wipers as the ones on the car were past it, and I like the how un-fussy these wipers look. And also clear front indicators (with chrome amber flash blubs) as this makes the front look a bit crisper.

Another small update with a number or parts added to the 'need' and 'want' lists.. The minor highs and lows of running a classic as a daily are not that new to me, and sure enough the parts list and easy fixes continue. The newest fault being intermitted wipers that will not cancel/continue without the slightest finger pressure. Sometime you'll get 20 mins of unprompted intermitted, other times 3 or 4 wipes, sometimes each wipe has to be prompted by touching the top of the stalk when in the intermittent position. Still to fix:- Feeble horn Gas struts front and rear to be replaced (hence the makeshift prop in the photo below) Slight front wheel wobble at 65mph (unknown cause yet) Improve seat foam in drivers seat base Things to save up for :- Mesh style alloy wheels Upgraded ARB's - I know the front will be 20mm, I am unsure if a rear one exists. - Need to figure out which Dia would be a nice cheapish upgrade 21mm or 23mm front and 14/16/18mm rear. Things Done :- Cleaned contacts on front indicator causing a rapid flash. Yellow headlights - simply aesthetic and something I wanted to try out. - Photo below is a half way through shot. As always, any advice / comments appreciated. high quality image upload
