I’m going to say it’s because the door frame at the ends prevents him getting the joggler in. You Sir earn a RRR badge (Retro Rides Response) only it's going to have to be virtual because I am fresh out of them And since these post have a large portion of educational material, don't forget to mention that the same trick applies to other places we use patch panels. Completed the prep on the door frame of the offside front door and also added hinge alignment pins - all the hinges will have to come back off the doors for painting Then completed the remaining prep on the aperture including re-drilling the sill step for the sill plate where fresh steel had been let in Along with the aperture drilled for the interior lamp switch Wing & A post aperture with seam sealer applied - critical if you want a good quality paint job / restoration to stand up several years down the line - although car manufactures had started to seal the underside of wings & chassis joints / flanges to prevent water / rust ingress by the time that this car was built - they failed to seal the secondary seams / flanges - so areas like the A post would just hold water within the seams until the structure of the car became effected with rust - with seam sealer and little time its all preventable - in a way futureproofing the life of the car Time for this to be rehung then Which means that the profiles can start to be worked Had to finish a few hours early today though has I am on village hall duties and need to go and set the hall up for a charity quiz night Possibly more tomorrow

When do we open the book on final colour ? I’m putting down yellow. Don’t know why, just a happy colour. Of course black would give grumpy something to work on... James

James Open the book whenever you like but it's a 'no show - no telling' until comes out of the end of the spraygun - I have yet to go and collect the paint and Pete could even change his mind at the last minute - who knows Don't really think that black would do the car any justice really - although I have seen a pic of black one in period police livery - a nice dark blue with a violet hue to it would be fab - but I'm just here minding my own business

These were some of the first cars to use metalic paint and when done well it looks great, to be truly original you will of course have to make sure it all starts to flake off in about three years time!

What do you think the seam sealer was made from back in the corsair era?
I've not found any on my land rovers except dumdum on bits they hoped would leak slightly less

These were some of the first cars to use metalic paint and when done well it looks great, to be truly original you will of course have to make sure it all starts to flake off in about three years time! Kevin - I take it that you mean it was one of the first Ford models to have the option of metallic paint - Not being a anorak but metallic paints have been around since long before then - the methods to apply them effectively and to a reasonably acceptable standard of finish did not arrive until the mid 40's although the spraygun has been around since the late 1800's - I hate to say it (Ok then - no I don't ) but Jowett were one of the first vehicle manufactures to offer metallic paint finishes on production vehicles has standard I can recall the mess of the early metallic paint finishes of the late 60's Ford models with Corsair's, Mk2 Cortina's & Zodiacs coming through the workshops in the early 70's - the slightest of nicks or stone chips in the very thinly applied factory finish would lead to a spider web of rust appearing under the paints surface - this would go on to warrant complete resprays of the models has the colour matching technology in those days was prehistoric when compared to todays standards

I've not found any on my land rovers except dumdum on bits they hoped would leak slightly less Darren - It was a bitumen based product has factory OE in those days - I use a low modulus polymer sealant has it gives what I feel is a more factory / OE type finish when applied / brushed - others prefer the one pack PU sealants i.e. Tiger seal etc - but I don't find them has workable has the MS sealants that I prefer - The vast majority Factory OE applied sealers are now 2 pack - and applied by fully automated robotic arms with a automatic mixing system which automatically cleans the system when completed then re-purges the system on start up

Ah, that takes me back. My first Cortina was a Blue Mink 1600 super estate. Except where the paint had flaked off.

I remember the gold & silver zodiacs etc flaking off all the metallic just leaving the grey primer showing underneath.

So with just 3 panels left to profile now prior to applying the first primer coats - just a little progress today in between lots of other things Initial knockback of the profile on the offside front door And the second skim applied

Again it’s been a while since I’ve been on the forum, but I done a lot of welding to the patrol last time home, it made me wish even more than ever that I had even a fraction of the skill you have! (Will try update the thread tonight/tomorrow - I’d love constructive criticism if you have the time... Some seriously impressive work been carried out again on this, and wish carrying out sheet metal repairs on the patrol, it makes it a lot more clear and appreciative of the time you put into the work. Can’t wait to see it hit with paint!

My favourite ford colour of the period is aubergine, never seen it on a corsair but it would look great. I had a J reg 2000E in Aubergine. It was a long tine ago, can’t remember if it was original, but it was definitely Aubergine.

Hi! What a fantastic work! Reminds me on the aweful doorskin of my Cortina......have to do the same to get some decent gaps. And i have not the same welding skills... But it went well in the end... I hate that preping work with filler and sanding....hats off to you!My Cortina did the sprayer.... Greet
