That did indeed do it - next brakes Watch this space!!! Cheers Matt Shadow brakes - is that not a massively bank balance reduction programme on these - or is that just a myth ? If at a dealer with an open chequebook or you're afraid to wield a spanner yourself yes - I'll save any celebration till we're all done but hoping that a combo of getting stuck in plus sensibly measured specialist help will see all kept proportionate Then it's over to you for paint when your schedule allows Cheers Matt

Front caliper rebuild kits are the same as a Ford (can't remember which model but think it is Cortina) but (& much of what follows is for those not familiar with Shadows) two sets are needed as there is a pair of calipers per disc to run the dual circuit system. The fun and games begins with the 'rat trap' under the driver's floor - there isn't a conventional master cylinder, just valves operated by a set of linkages off the pedal which then activate the high pressure hydraulic system (which also does the self levelling rear suspension). In good order, the brakes will stand it on its front bumper. Depending on the year, brake pedal feel is provided by compressing a rubber ball in the linkage... Easiest way to deal with this is to remove the whole unit and rebuild on the bench. The other year, I helped a friend extract this from his Shadow when he did a full braking system rebuild, and most of it was partially siezed. IIRC, most rebuild bits are available, but I think he made a few himself too. The factory manuals which are all online in various places (inc Bentley's heritage pages) have all the info as well as the set-up data. I recall something in the documentaion about the 100,000 mile service schedule involving a full brake rebuild, but suspect that quite a few Shadows have probably missed that!
