Ok as promised some time for some metal PAWN. So the standard for rear arms are formed from a small coke factories out put of recyclable alumimunium. Strong enough if your name is Frank and you want to hop over some bumps in san fran, but probably far to heavy for our uses. Kim put his metal skills to good use and you can see his hard work - the next bit will be the cross over push and pull rear suspension that will be oh so functional and sexy. Hope you like

Big moment in the build - drum role please ........ the engine and box are in !!! well it fits nicely! Hood should go on without modifications and the X Force headers don't need any butchering thanks to a little bit of inspiration from Kim. Originally, the test fit looked like the right-hand exhaust merge collector was going to hit the frame rails and would need to be modified, potentially hampering the flow, but a cheeky little 'bird's beak' mod up the top angled the headers just enough to move it all in enough. The sump is nicely tucked back behind the cross-member so no need for the dry-sump we'd imagined. The oil filter won't fit where it's supposed to but we have plans to relocate it. Other than that, its a winner! Once again massive thanks to Ford UK and all the guys there for the engine

While the goose has been getting fat and lockdown proceeds in hell raiser shed... we have some progress. The Tubs are in the back end is now nearly all buttoned up with these sooooper smoth tubs, arches and rear seat. You might be thinking my my what big arches you have, have you lost your mind and fitting some big Dubs.... but fear not, the car will be lower than a snakes butt in a wagon rut and this all in order to get our nice proper sized wheels with sidewalls in a good position for track time. So hopefully we now commission the gods of CAD to start drawing up the inboard cantilever suspension for our rear end and even more gorgeousness can be created.. As always feast your eyes and feedback, comment and suggestion appreciated " |

The arches are designed to take an 18inch wheel with a reasonable amount of sidewall as we don't want to be running on rubber bands. Its also going to be about 3 inches lower than stock with all the suspension mods. This is not a show and shine queen, it is going to be a track car we are going to take to spa and many places to give it a good ragging. The tubs looks big now, but we are working on metal arches that will give it a bit more .... cough cough stance.. cough. They are still in prototype.... well cardboard cut out form while we argue.... sorry vigourously debate artistic / practical details but once we have cut some tin, banged it around it a bit and converted molten metal into pure swearing we will show the world. Glad you like it, it really motivates when the work put in is appreciated !

Look forward to seeing the arches then!
Have to agree about not needing a supercharger, I have that engine (stock) in a lardy S550 & it's already too fast to be properly enjoyed on the road.

i have a 2016 s550 too, we tried out some engine ideas on it . So far we have run a 2018 inlet, CAI, GT350 throttle body, long tube headers, Borla resonated h pipe ( other wise its is just too loud ) and GT350 back boxes. With this on regular gas its putting out 530 BHP and really changes the engine nicely - a bit more torque low down and past 5k it screams redlining at 9K now.

Interesting that all of your arch 'depth will be in the arches, as your tubs are flush to the bodywork. Less seams, etc to catch dirt and water but I'm interested to see how it looks with wheel in and arch on.
Glad I spotted this! In for the ride!
Did Ford give you an engine in the end, or did they give you a mock up one, but then all the extra bits?

The arches will close them up a little so they don't look so big, but still have the freedom inside for suspension movement In the end Ford camp up trumps and after asking for a blown engine to borrow they end up giving us a complete mustang minus the body shell. so pretty much everything so if we can use some of it we will and if not we will return it to ford so they can scrap it.

looks great, it's so low and wide that it's going to look cool no matter what. Kindig has done a few mustangs lately and none look anywhere near as hard as this. the arch running into the spoiler looks great. as you have the metalworking skills the other direction would be to split the wings along here widen the whole panel

Good photoshop ! We did debate this and we have seen a car where this has been done ( hopefully picture is below but posting from phone so here is hoping ) It came down to two things 1. With a boxed out back what to do with the front arches? The front arch as you can see needs to be quite big so would mean huge boxes arches and then we end looking like a Zakspeed Capri. A cool looking car but not the look we wanted for this one 2. If we did go for this how to tie it into the front air dam ? Most of these options just didn’t go with the flow or created flow issues That said that look is a good one and maybe the next one 😆 www.facebook.com/hellraisermustang/photos/a.2437996526220359/2440332175986794/?type=3

Going this wide (or should I say this much wider than original) I think will always compromise the clean look of the Mustang panels. But then I am a true mustang lover and may be overly critical, although far from opposed to customising a mustang! The best option would be to add in the difference in width in the middle of the car. Make the whole car wider and make the fact the car is wider almost not noticable without looking twice. But that brings on it's own challenges with custom screens and such as well as doing it in a safe way on these unibody cars. So discounting that.... The front arches look nice and they tie in well with the front spoiler. In the rear I think they need to tie in to the top of the panel as to match the front ones. To me it looks a bit weird having the backs lower than the top line. While at the front you go to the top line.
In your facebook pic the rear arches look like they are still sort of added on. They seem to be sort of a square bubble shape that is put on the original wing. The last bit of wing is still it's original flat. The fotoshop suggestion above takes them out full length and is probably better looking, although I agree that it does make the fronts more of a dilemma to figure out. Extending the front wing by as much would as you say almost mimic the zackspeed capri. And the door being so much further in when compared to the wings is a look you have to like.
I do think you've got a very good start...But to me it's not quite there yet. But as always, it's your car, do what you like.
Maybe I should contact ford, see if they would sponsor me a Coyote V8, box and diff for my Granada! I'm so amazed they gave you all you need... Then it will be my ultimate Granada.... But on my own it's a non starter type project.

Well, how have I missed this build?!
Looking absolutely spot on.
You must have said the magic words to the chaps at Dunton, I have mates that work there and I'm still waiting for my drivetrain to arrive haha
Working on a twin turbo 68 coupe at the moment using the older Cobra motor as a base. About to tackle the suspension, this has been inspiring!
Bring on the UK pro-touring movement!

We didn't consider cutting the car in half though ! If you want a coyote - we do have a spare, ford racing crate motor will all the ancillaries so your dream super sweeney car could not be that far away ! Keep the comments coming its good to see what you think

So while the weather outside is cold and frightful, the friction of metal bending and cardboard templates burning on an open fire has kept the workshop warm. Tin is being folded and welded to form the arches and as promised here is a progress report. All the arches being formed on good old english wheels and forms. So as of today this is where its at. Tonight we have also been talking to a magical electricity wizard about bespoke ECUs and wiring - that's been quite an introduction on what is possible!! So on to tin bending - so first off arty shot of the front wheel arch - i think not its in tin you get a much better feel for the look and how much lower the cars is now. Have to say really pleased at the fit of the arches to the wings, really really close tolerances. So starting point Metal bending and delicate welding so not to ripple, love the tolerances against the wing Rear arches curving seductively into the rear quarter Essential top shot and you can see it starting to come together
