I've posted build threads and info on various SIMCAs I've had and am still working on. Kev. my brother, also has a collection of SIMCAs and MATRAs over the other side of town. He built this SIMCA 1204 Special a few years ago. It's now back on the road after a respray. The 1204 special was a 'hot' version of the SIMCA 1100 hatchback. A 1204cc engine on twin DCNF webers replaced the standard 1100's 1118cc single carb. Kev ran it in standard form for a few years until rust issues took it off the road. During the rebuild he started thinking about a transplant. I had a Honda D16 engine and box from a Rover 400 which now powers the SIMCA. Kev's ditched the injection and it now runs on a pair of Dellortos from a 'dead' Alfa on an adapted CVH manifold. Sparks are from a '2 wire' distributor from one of the last carburettor Civics. It runs well on the Alfa jetting! Wiil dig more photos out of the original build. The end result really GOES...!!! Photos to follow... don't seem to be co-operating.

Here's my twin DCNF SIMCA 1100. The SIMCA engine is leaned back at quite an angle. The Honda transplant on Kev's gives a neater engine bay layout than the standard SIMCA. The engine further forward aids traction too..!!

Very interesting! I hear good things about the D16 engine in the Rovers. Not exactly a powerhouse, but pretty peppy for what it is and solidly reliable.
The twincam rear engine car is excellent too.

biturbo228 Yes the 1204 goes really well. I've been storing it for my brother recently and have enjoyed driving it. The Honda 5 speed box gives it a gear change owners of original SIMCA 1100s/1204s could only ever dream of. The rear engined conversion came about because the engines in the SIMCA 1000 range rotate anti clockwise and in looking for an engine to transplant to the SIMCA in line gearbox we discovered the Honda D and B series engines rotate that way.... CROWN wheels and pinions being the weak link. Only problem we've found is the SIMCA box is nearing its limit with the D16 attached. Kev's 1204 now runs on twin 40DCNF webers in place of the previous 40DCOEs. Hoping to have the lightweight 1000 ready later this year to give it a try out at a Blyton trackday or Sturgate Straight event. Ran the D16 in the back of the 1000 on a pair of Dellorto 40DHLA carbs, an autojumble bargain from a 'dead' Alfa. The jetting was nearly spot on for the Honda twin Cam..!!
