Seeing you doing some machining has reminded me to tell you weβre going to be ceasing production at Saxons in 3 or 4 months so if youβre wanting any decent steel you best get it ordered. That's not good π You going to have to look for something else? Yes bit early to retire at 46. Might take a few months off over the summer though. Every cloud n all that.

That's snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...You were so close...Would have given it to you if Β you hadn't added the explanation ππ Is it to give you a reverse? Real men get out and push it backwards

Real men get their wives to get out and push it backwards Fixed it for you π Actually, if you ever get Mrs. Bravo in it we would like a photograph please. I also award you honorary membership of the "Madman in a Death Machine" club usually only reserved for six-litre V8 Healeys but I believe you are a 'special' case

Finished stripping down the diff today These are the only bits I need from it,as it's too long and with a useless to me 4.11 to 1 ratio Will build up a Audi/4 motion/JB hybrid diff with these bits Bit of modification will be needed on the diff carrier, but it's all looking pretty good so far Took the pinion shaft carrier off Will whizz the front of this down in the mill tomorrow that I can measure the socket I need to undo the pinion

Managed to get this into the mill this morning Gave it a quick, but stern talking to Couple of minutes later it was 60mm shorter Still need to machine more off,but at least I can now measure the nut 41mm double hex long socket duly ordered. Will be a couple of days. Think I might start trying to figure the wiring harness out in the meantime,as I think I now have all I need to get it sorted π

The 41 socket to get the pinion nut off arrived...just in time to miss the weekend π Also managed to scrounge the planetary gears out of an automatic transmission Size wise, they are a much better option than the set out of the jeep transfer case With all the recent gearbox, diff and transfer box strip downs,my garage was beginning to look like a scrap metal merchants warehouse. So major strip down and tidy up. Stashed all the bits I will use,and loaded the rest in the van. Will pop down and weigh it all in once the weather improves. Standing out in the freezing cold ,unloading a van of oily ally really doesn't blow my hair back at the moment. Speaking of blowing your hair back,or not in this case, when I first started this project I bought a K100 block, minus head,to check out the dimensions. It would turn, but jammed up at a certain point. Well, for 99p it wasn't likely to be pristine now,was it? In the spirit of cleaning up,I decided to strip it down, remove the crank and countershaft etc. They really are a beautifully built bit of kit A freshly machined groove, complete with swarf is a good indication that all was not well, and that this engine came to a grinding halt. Its the rear journal of the countershaft Notice anything suspicious due to its absence? The offending rivet that came out, machined a groove into the block before jamming up the countershaft gears. The whole unit on the countershaft was loose,so that's what killed it.... Now in the process of cleaning up the rest of the mess and then it's wiring harness time π

Seeing you follow the Weald foundation, here is a sneak preview of the u bolts for the Ft 17. Bit of lateral thinking in machining them π

The track adjusters would also have been so much nicer to machine if Nudgerss had supplied the steel Anyway, that was just a little aside,as to why my three wheeled wagon isn't rolling on at the pace I would like. The Ft tank project takes up a lot of my time ,as well as the Panther and a 251 half track....

Sure there's a smart anecdote about wars keeping folk in business long after they've finished... alas I can't think of anything right now.
Amazing how pleasing some simple pieces look, must be even better if you're the one who's made them.

Well,I have a confession to make. I think I was responsible for last weeks weather. Many of you thought,"It will be a cold day in hell before JB throws something away" well,it seems the weather Gods weren't best happy with me,and gave me a week of colderthanawitchestitweather. Then,to really drive their message home, they attacked by beer stash...Rotters...Let me explain...
My garage is a lot better than it used to be,since I put all the celotex between the rafters. It's never going to be brilliant because of the double up and over door made of steel that acts like an open freezer door when it's cold.Normally this time of year,it actually works in reverse,it catches the sun and acts like a radiator late afternoon and evening. To try and keep it warm 24/7 isn't really an option,so all I try to do is keep it above 8c. I have an Eight foot tube heater at the back controlled by a temperature controller that was liberated from a growing room at a legal marajuana plantation... Should have known better than leave my stash of beers to the mercy of a potheaded controller....π
Anyway, with it getting warmer,I switched the controller powersupply off about two weeks ago ,and forgot to reset it when I switched it back on again before last weeks cold spell . Now,I don't like overly cold beer,so I keep a stash of beers in the garage,on top of the fridge. Off the shelf if you like. Went in there on Wednesday to liberate a couple...Out of luck. All frozen,so put them in the fridge to warm up. Grrrr.
