Well I still have no completed projects, still have numerous current projects on the go and about even more waiting in line. Out of a Carlton, Senator or Granada that a Granada would be my barge of choice, I bought one and it has an ongoing build thread on here. Shortly after I got slightly greedy and fancied a second barge. I had a wee look at a mates 24V Senator and that gave me a small itch for something Vauxhall (And that's were everything started to go downhill...) Told myself if I seen a cheap 24V Carlton or Senator pop up and I had sufficient funds lying about that I would buy one, After all the value of them is only going one way.
Didn't take long for a reasonably priced 24V Carlton to pop up on eBay, I had a price in mind for the car and I entered my bid with 2 or 3 seconds left to go on the auction, Ebay brought me to a page once I entered my bid saying ''Sorry, The seller has not specified postage to Ireland'' hence my bid did not go through. The car sold that time round for £530, significantly less than my planned bid, I was unamused to put it mildly. Messaged the seller and said if the sale falls through I'll buy for the asking price. Never heard anything back and thought no more of it.
A week or 2 after the auction ended the car was relisted. I 'adjusted' my ebay account to accommodate for UK postage limitation. Entered my max bid in the last few moments and I won the car for a massive... £510. Score. For an extra £100 a second 24V parts car could be included in the deal.
1. Ebay listing.
So here she is, a silver face lift 3.0 24V Carlton GSI. A few searches shows it was never wrote off/crashed/the usual. The tax ran out on 01 July 2003 so at this stage the car has near enough been off the road as long as it has been on the road. As was the case with the Granada, I bought the car blind without seeing it, asking a few questions but mostly taking a chance and hoping it wouldn't all go pear shaped.
A few photo's from the ebay add.
2. I've intentionally left out the photos showing the vast quantities of rust
3. Doesn't look so bad from a distance. All jacking point covers and towing eye covers were inside the car.
4. The business end, relatively complete with the spark plug valley cover and dual ram cover in the boot.
5. Blurry interior photo. Notice the distinct lack of a clutch pedal and a proper gear leaver although that won't be the hardest problem to sort.
A short while later they were over the water. A few photos of the cars upon my first time seeing them at the transporters yard.
6. The silver car and the red parts car. The black Carlton behind is not mine but was imported from England at the same time and was also awaiting collection.
7. The red car.. One or 2 small rust patches on her. This car has been listed for breaking in the parts for sale section of this forum. Using any useful or better bits off this car on the silver car and selling on what's not needed.
The eventual plan is to get the silver car solid (Much easier said than done for there is no shortage of rust). Possibly then carry out a manual conversion and change the wheels for some facelift Carlton 10 spokes. In the mean time I'm focusing on getting her going, Currently I'm not getting power to the fuel pump or injectors so I've a replacement Fuel pump/Injection relay on order, hoping that sorts the problem.
All the history of the silver car that I have is as follows:
It was first registered in Taunton on the 30th May 1991 as H693 XYA. It has had 8 owners including myself with the last owner (In Spalding) buying the car in September 2004. The 2nd last owner (In Pinner) bought the car during May 2003. The last MOT cert shows the car was MOT'd in 2002 in Bedfordshire at around 114k miles.
