Bali for your stag... DAFUQ? Great build though, sitting perfect for a big bumper Mk2. The engine swap looks great, almost OEM, bet it goes like a scalded cat haha yeah we didn't go on the end, every 3 years we all go somewhere pretty nice but as my best man was flying from Australia, we just decided to go to Madrid for 4 days so he could spend more time with family over here. My other best man is moving to Florida next year with his partner, so we have to go there for his wedding! better start saving! it does go well, kept up well with a mk7 Golf R with Revo badges the other day and it defo felt/ sounded like he had his foot down for a long time

i am loving this new phone! its a Honor 10 Went out in the car yesterday after a quick clean and some weekend maintenance, the car feels really dialled in, the handling is lovely, the power delivery is great.. still need to go get the car booked in for some winter paint love. i want to get the engine stripped out again and painted as i never did that when putting it in, also the gearbox soda blasted and painted. couldn't help but take more photos on the way home from a little met last night

long time no update. not really been that motivated to work on the car this winter, i ended up re-doing my driveway to make myself some more useful room went from this: to this: to this (but its now complete..i just don't have a pic): i've fixed a few little bits internally, like the fan direction lever sticking, electric windows now on an ignition live triggered relay rather than perm live etc and i just need to do a coolant flush and put a new battery in to get it going for summer. Bit annoyed that i've not done more this year to be honest but just been mentally drained with work to want to. I also got back into RC planes so weekends have been spent flying those

Well, figured i had better pull my finger out or i'm not going to be driving it this year. so i thought the MOT tester was full of curse word when he said there was an oil leak... he might have been right... cam cover gasket was a bit brittle when i removed it, so cleaned it up and inspected the cams which looked good. Just prepping the cover for some black paint.

Saturday afternoon got busy! Intercooler out (need to make up some good brackets for that again as i didn't like how it was sat at an angle before) cooling system out - getting completely replaced Alternator and bracket - out to be refurbished. This is the offending pipe! The near side of the engine has a coolant housing that the temp sensor goes into, so i whipped that off while i clean up the engine of all the muck and grease, as it came of, the rubber o'ring came away in 2 pieces..so that's likely where the little dribble of coolant has come from and possibly not the pipe in the pictures above, but that needs replacing anyway. Going to fit a catch can so whipped out all the oil breather pipes, the one that goes into the block obviously split as it came out..just brittle. so ordered a new part there, that will go into a silicon pipe to a catch can and then one from the cam cover to the catch can...then delete the PCV (puck) valve. then took out the alternator and the bracket behind it that supports the power steering pump. I'll sand them back and clear coat them... not sure how to restore the alternator yet though but just want that back to OEM looking and clear coated. loads of cleaning to do! should be a good week for progress

Another busy weekend pushing on with the car. Finished cleaning up the cam cover, masked up ready to paint Idle pulley bearing was rough so took that apart, cleaned up all the aluminium, chemically treated it and then cleaned again and clear coated it... i also did this with the bracket on the front of the engine for the alternator Took the bearing out thinking i could just replace it... looks like its easier to just replace the assembaly Stripped the alternator to check the bearings as it sounded a bit gritty.. Outer shaft bearing in the casing is all good... inner is gritty..Part number for it in pic. ordered a new bearing and will replace that. did loads more cleaning up of the alternator casing, i will clear coat this when done. and put some of it back in to get an idea of how its looking.

bit of an update, not that anyone seems to see it these days. Found an issue with the gearbox! it seems that the lower starter motor bolt had come out!!!! not sure how this happens to be honest. I am now wondering if its something i missed when installing it. Decided to get a new gearbox with a smaller final drive so it should be a bit nicer to drive at speed. Its also given me a chance to clean up a new box and paint it. I had to grind off all the oxidisation from the box and clean off all the grease/coolant crud and other bits. I used various things but mr muscle oven cleaner did an amazing job of cleaning it all up. i then used a specialist aluminium spray on treatment that gets the aluminium back to new look by having an acidic etch effect. this makes it ready for paint and also has built in anti oxidisation, so its a good clean up and paint prep treatment. Now its ready for paint, i have chosen to go black with some Por15 black engine enamel in order to keep the clean look.

Do you have any details of the specialist aluminium spray?

What gearbox have you gone for? Been thinking of doing this on my G60 for years for that same reason, it's too revvy on the motorway!

Looks good dude. A little weird on the cracked gearbox casing bracket yeah but tracked down to a missing lower starter bolt.. somehow it got loose and must have fallen out, this put all the pressure on the top of the bracket then put force on the case. not really sure how it happened.. but that's classic cars for you.
