The time has come to move on my Mazda RX7. I bought this back at the end of 2015 as a short term daily and its served me well but now I have my BMW and MG projects to spend money on, something had to give
You can check my thread here retrorides.proboards.com/thread/184904/1989-mazda-rx-vert-rrg for a pretty full history of my time with the car
Make: Mazda
Model: RX-7 Turbo II Convertible (Facelift/Series 5/Kouki)
Mileage: 122k (ish)
MOT: Until July 2018
For those who aren't au fait with the RX7, a brief intro to what this car is about. This is a factory turbo convertible and is a UK car rather than an import.
Powertrain wise you get a 13B single turbo engine producing around 205bhp, this is coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox and goes out to a factory LSD at the back. The engine in this is really smooth and is an absolute delight. You can pootle about all day at low revs and it feels not too dissimilar to a 4 cylinder engine, but if you keep your foot in it all the way to the redline, it really comes alive! The gearbox is nice to use and the LSD still works as it should
I've also fitted a stainless Racing Beat exhaust system which goes from the Turbo back. This gives a useful increase in sound over standard while not being totally anti-social (It's quieter than my BMW with just a backbox delete). There is also a Knight Sports FCD fitted.
The engine has been given a service with new oil, filter and spark plugs very recently, and I've also fitted new HT leads since I first got the car.
Also I fitted a complete new clutch hydraulic system last year (slave, master and braided line)
The Suspension on this car is modified from standard. It is fitted with Mazdaspeed adjustable coilovers up front and non adjustable rear coilovers comprising of Ohlins Dampers with lowered springs. I got this setup used off a JDM import coupe, they give the car a great stance and it corners very flat.
The car has had new brakes all round comprising of: 4 new discs, new front and rear pads and new rear calipers.
On the Interior you get two nicely finished black leather seats and I have managed to source a pair of OEM RX7 mats in great condition. It's pretty well equipped for a car of the time, you get cruise control, variable speed wipers, electric windows and an electrically retracting roof. I've added some tasteful mods to the interior with the MOMO steering wheel, Alpine headunit (Also completely tidied up the mess of radio wiring the car previously had) and AEM gauges for volts, boost and wideband AFR.
There are obviously some niggles/faults and these are as follows:
Overall I reckon this car has a good base to improve upon further and I am genuinely gutted I won't be the one to do it. I do also have some Rays Volk Racing CV Pro wheels which would suit this perfectly which I am currently refurbing and may be able to incorporate into some sort of deal.
I'm looking for £3500 and the car is based in Bedworth near Coventry for viewings etc. feel free to PM me for more info or read my thread above as there will be bits I've missed out!
Anyway, pics

There are obviously some niggles/faults and these are as follows:
- The roof has a couple tears in it which are duct taped for now but will need replacement
- The engine currently won't idle from cold until it warms up (thermowax issue)
- The underside will need some rust removal before the next MOT as it scraped through
- The windscreen does have a crack outside of the prescribed area
- One or both of the rear dampers can bottom out on a big bump, I think they might need rebuilding or replacing in the near future (being Ohlins they should be serviceable?)
- The boost gauge has stopped moving in the past week or so
