I would also disagree. Whilst I can't comment anything useful on the Manta situation, I can definitely say that the Nova, Corsa, Cavalier (esp. MK3) and Carlton demand is very strong in Ireland and prices reflect that. Certainly a well sorted Nova is several grand but the Fiesta is not even registering, similarly something like a Cavalier SRi is something I see regularly being asked for but Mondeos of the same age have vanished, and the stock racers have killed off all the Granadas while people are heading to the mainland to bring back Carltons (I guess they are vaguely contemporary). Even the Corsa is picking up and the warmed up ones are disappearing into dry garages as the Nova prices drive up. I know it's not all Vauxhalls way, as the Astra GTE is almost unknown compared to a MK3 RS1600i or whatever, but they're certainly not all gone and forgotten; quite the opposite. I'm no great fan of them, I just don't have any interest in them, but I have and have had friends and acquaintances including on here that are very much into them, but if I never say anything else about them I will at least write that much.

I also disagree, while you are right to an extent with Corsa/chavs, people don't seem to remember that anymore. When I first got my Astra I was a chav bla bla bla (even though it looked like a standard mk3 GSi), 9 years later I don't get the "is it a redtop" comments any more, just people who used to have one, even pulled over by a policeman who had one so he could reminisce. Also on the Vectra B front, not the best cars granted and certainly not helped by a Mr Clarkson, but go out and count Vectras and then similar age Mondeo's, they have their faults granted but they aren't a bad car, which is why I've had several and still have one now for domestic duties. Early Corsa B's are starting to creep up, especially for Sport/SRi models, and nice Novas are decent money now. Everyone has an opinion, that's my honest one.
Back to the original post, apart from Antonio's turbo Manta from Deeside (owns a rolling road, can't remember the name) I haven't seen one in 10 years. Love the styling though, and dare I say I'd have one over a mk3 Capri?

There are a lot of really nice Manta's in build that i know of currently, however as with many builds life is getting in the way of several of them and they have been 'In Build' for a few years already (some for many many years) Some in build are, A blown small block chevy with full Mattig Super Extreme bodykit Full Skyline R33 engine and running gear in a 400 Being built by RetroPower and very nearly finished Then there is Kev's i240 kitted coupe with Cossie turbo lump, this has been in build for over 15 years so far and the basic plan has changed several times so far, which has a thread on here somewhere. There's also 2 lexus v8 builds on th ego, a couple more cossies, and several others with interesting ideas. I'll see your one, and raise you a little

It has already been said these are getting a little rare & a bit pricey - if you look hard enough there are out there but the blue oval script badge ugly equivalent sold in a far higher volume than the Opel / Vauxhall models ever did - can't remember where but didn't one of the UK police forces have a couple of these for traffic cars in the period ?

Been in situations to get my hands on two in the past, a black GTE that I fell in love with but had literally just bought another car which had skinted me out before I stumbled upon it (pre interweb days) and I've always regretted not going the extra mile and getting it. Over the years I vowed that I would get one. I was offered first knockings on a berlinetta in red but it took ages for them to get rid of it, by that time I was in space somewhere and when I got back it had been part ex'd in and I was skint again anyway.
I'd just realised that maybe I was never destined to be a Manta owner... and then my stupid 635 found me didn't it, like a lost puppy... Game over.

They may be getting rarer, but i wouldn't call them pricey really. A road going hatch which needs attention can be had under £2000 and a very tidy coupe is somewhere from £4000-6500
Compare that to the same spec/condition rear wheel drive coupes from the 80's like Capri, Escort, BMW, MG, Corrola, or any ther J motor and see how it stacks up pound for pound.
Parts were hard to find in the old days but now there is a huge range of reproduction and genuine parts available from several shops in Germany and Europe. As they have got to the right age to become popular over there aswell.

As they have got to the right age to become popular over there aswell. have to agree with that. parts for kadett E/ astra2 i've found easier and easier to source in the last 5/6 years. they are now nudging into historic category in rallying/tarmac too, so tuning parts availability also back on the rise.

Ive personally never liked them, i just cant explain why because its a actually a pretty nice car with being beautiful and RWD and all... They were very popular around here (Denmark) a decade or so ago, thats why i thought i would show a few of the prime examples with pictures and stuff: Opel Manta B 5.7 "BADASS" V8 1988 Opel Manta 1983

I'm also not sure if this has been mentioned yet 8) Manta, Manta (1991)Proud German owners of Opel Manta's race the streets against VW's and Mercedes. They decide to set up a real race with lots of money involved.
