In effort to clean up the K10, bought some gloopy black wax to try rejuvenate the bumpers. Not wanting to half it, I de-Faced the micra and set to work. Was very pleased with the result, I thought it had taken years off the look of the car like some kind of automotive anti-wrinkle cream. Before... After! The rear got the same treatment- old and decrepit before Refreshed and glossy after Further aesthetic mods also took place, thought the front plate looked a little to big and ugly with the GB badge so that met with the bandsaw. The rear was far more drastic as an unlawful whole 30mm was removed from either edge...

Hankering for a new knob, wasn't keen on maintaining the cobra theme with a bottle on the end of the stick but instead got the ply and wood glue out. 24hours drying time later and had it set up on the lathe with the radius tool...so began the ball shaping Threaded with a helicoil and a dab of oil, rather pleased with the new knob, feels good as well.

I Read up on the stuff before I got it and it sounded decent, needs a good first application then another coat in the beginning , been on for a month now and still looks pretty good. I reckon it will need another one soon as they were rather grey so just need to build up the layers. This particular stuff was carPlan Black trim wax.

Now with alloys and a low stance, the raw power was becoming a handful through the corners, so got hold of a Momo steering boss to mount a rather tasty OBA 'protipo' style wheel. Some fabrication was required as it ended up under my chin so chopped of the bolt face and had a drilled and tapped steel ring welded on to the correct depth. one £5 horn button from ebay later and sorted. At the meet with the Lada and the Fiesta, Some proper stuff there, Big thanks to Mk1Kieran for organising. Whilst the folks were away, pinched a wheel off mothers MX5 to see how it fit, 15s don't look to bad hmm...

This is coming along well, lots of neat touches - kudos.
How are you able to put MX5 wheels on there? I know their PCD is the same, but I was under the impression that the MX5 used a 54.1mm centre bore, whereas the Micra is 59.1mm.

Thank you ! with the 5 spokes that are on at the moment the centre bore was smaller and I thought I would have to machine out to fit over the micra Hub but on inspection, there was a plastic ring in the centre. I assume this took the centre bore down to 54.1. The ring popped out with a flat blade and allowed it to fit over the micra Hub

With the original stickers in a state of fade when I bought the Micra I soon had the t cut and truck wash out to remove the residue. Since then the rear boot has been blank, I saw a k10 online that had been Datsun badged up...so It got me thinking and knocked these up on illustrator and printed them out on paper to have a look see. Note the red should actually be on top, I amended this but just didn't get a photo. I was quite the fan of a Datsun Sticker'd k10, so I sent it off and had a batch printed on vinyl very kindly by a local print shop. Got them in the post few days ago and absolutely chuffed. Some further work is required on the boot to get it perfectly smooth before the stickers can go on

That does mean that now you need some K10 steels banded and fitted with the little Datsun hub caps that early Micras had.

There's a few different versions. I'm thinking of the really early chrome/stainless hubcaps that also came on the early Sunny Yours could have had little plastic caps like these from new or full sized trims. Your difficulty is likely to be finding them, people seem to ditch the little centre caps in favour of full trims.

With the looks of that almost swallowtail golf style boot thats one of the first k10s in 84 so even the steelies look slightly different but would be ace to get hold of those caps, especially as they are actually datsun items in terms of the age . would look the part with some different grill badges as well, possible a prefacelift look. I suspect mine did have a similar plastic trim with the 4 indentations, look a lot better then the full trims. Will have to keep my eye out, not sure whats the plan for the wheels but the early style banded steels is a cool idea and certainly not been done that I've seen. Todd

Haven’t posted for a while as ive been rather busy busy at college and also not much work has been carried out on the K10. So I thought this latest acquisition would make a sort of interesting post. Ive been after a Pre Face-lift grill for the K10 since I got it so was very happy to finally get hold of one. After carrying out research on various forums I relied it was not a simple bolt on job and would require a level of modification. I Preferred the Facelift lights and have neither time or money to do a complete wings/bonnet/Light swap so set about adapting. Firstly I removed all the top clips as the new grill utilised none. I noticed extra square holes and thought this could be the original mounting. I made the decision and got the outer grill bits cut off so had committed to facelift lights. An Air powered grinder was adequate. This allowed the grill to sit within the space but it still was tight in places. After measuring and comparing the original grill, I found it was completly different in all lengths widths and angles. I had come to far to give up now. Got the old man to make some cutouts for the bonnet hinge to come through which allowed the grill to sit back further. It also required some scalloping of various edges to get a straight grill to fit into a curved space. When attempting to attach it using the existing mounts it shifted the whole grill upwards meaning it fowled the bonnet. This is partly due to the fact it’s taller and shallower, so I was unable to use any. I tried to use some threaded inserts in the square holes but still was to far inset meaning the grill was to upright to fit. I did away with this idea and instead focused on the top mount and cut and bent up some stepped brackets. I attached them with pop rivits into the body and self tapers into the grill. This made the grill quite sturdy however the lower edge did stick out past the top edge of the bumper so needs pulling back, I think a cable tie will be a suitable low cost measure The bonnet hinge will be painted black to help it blend in and the grill itself will get a spray to tidy it up fully.

I like that, much prefer the retroness of the earlier grill. Didn't realise it was changed so much when facelifted though.

Haven't updated this in a rather long time due to a number of factors, the main being moving to cornwall for uni. Subsequently the k10 has been neglected but did get a few jobs done before hand. one being copper brake lines, as the steel ones were corroded. Not the neatest job in the world, but pleased for mostly in situ bends under the car with hand tools. Following this the k10 was put in storage whilst I was away, It got minimal usage over the next few months, in between tyres de beading around corners, it served quite well as a kayak transporter The micra had always had a slight whine from the gearbox but had never given issue, Perhaps due to time of non usage it started to develop more serious issues of jumping out of gear when it pleased. a gearbox oil change revealed someone might have filled the box with gold glitter as a joke. on closer inspection it was in bronze shrapnel from the synchro gears. It was not long for this world. note the new lift making a once abysmal job actually tolerable.
