Thought it was about time to start a sort of 'build' thread for my K10 Micra, Will keep this thread updated with more posts and photos but will just do this first one for the time being Bought the car back in January as I needed a cheap to run daily replacement for my 1990 Suzuki SJ413, which consumed petrol, water and oil as fast as it dropped them again. Always had a soft spot for the k10's so after seeing this on the bay I quickly jumped on it and was soon trundling down to the New Forest with the old man to pick it up. After a lovely overheating free trip down the M27 we had arrived and lo and behold, The K10!. As you can see from the photo it was sporting a 'lovely' white grill and equally tasteful wing mirrors with paint runs that could only have been caused by high speed driving minutes after applying the paint. Besides this and a few other rough areas, was rather happy with the car. Note the multitude of rear reflectors that increase the character and charm along with safety of the car. Also back steelies look rather good on it in my opinion. Had to grab a cheeky shot of the SJ whilst still in the new forest, photo was taken few minutes before attempting serious 4x4ing over a small log. URL=http://s38.photobucket.com/user/jaffatat/media/IMG_5302_zpspvofochk.jpg.html] As I was not insured on the K10, the old man drove it back, but stopped at a petrol garage en route for a quick test drive. The handling qualities are very similar to a boat in high seas but it has a charm about it and was rather lovely to drive.

They are a fun drive, used to love blezzing through the countryside in mine, can lead foot everywhere and be well inside the speedlimit is it a 1.0 or 1.2? I had both but the 1.0 seemed more willing.

I like the white accents, you could turn it into a Mclaren/ Marlboro paint scheme.
Standard they are quite floaty, but the controls are light and responsive. Just get rid of the horible steering wheel and put some nice wheels and they start to handle (although you need springs and shocks to complete)

-Will try get more posts down on this thread, as its changed a fair amount since I first got it !- After a pleasant drive back got the k10 safely inside the warm and dry workshop, First thing first was to ditch those reflectors. The shop dog took an immediate liking and preceded to lick every surface. Note the interesting affair on the offside front wing, a rather rusty hole. Was soon remedied with a can of Nissan red, sheet aluminium and filler No longer a need for the bike repair patch to cover. Few other minor rust spots but nothing serious, whole car was just crying out for a proper wash.

The now much cleaner hole-less wing, needs a good T-cut to blend properly but very happy with the results. The JDM Fleet, one is considerably warmer, dryer and more reliable (The Micra) Tried a Cookie cutter on for size, may require some arch fettling to fit, on the other hand will just get a more suitable rim. URL=http://s38.photobucket.com/user/jaffatat/media/IMG_5551_zps5crduung.jpg.html] Got hold of some 6" pioneers which filled the holes in the shelf rather nicely. With the wiring still intact, hooking them up was rather easy and makes a welcome change from the stock footwell mounted speaker.

With insurance all moved over to the Micra, it completed the first college commute with ease so had to stop for a photo on the way home. Defiantly needing a clean and possibly some lows... Was getting a little tired of the white flaky paint on the grill and mirrors so thought it was about time to remedy that. After a quick sandblast and glue repair, the satin black came out and met with the grill. Mirrors required some further disassembly as the white had been applied on every single surface of the mirror. With a few coats on each the k10 was looking much smarter already. Grill back on and looking sharp, the debadged look left an interesting void so opted to keep it on

Shortly before the Sj was sold, going from a SWB 4x4 to a lowish road car with proper suspension is a rather nice feeling In the quest for better sounds, the parcel shelf needed bigger speakers, And so it did. Was kindly given a pair of 3 way Speakers by a friend as the tweeter unit was broken required some electrical fettling to get working. With the pioneers gone, out came the jigsaw to cut some phat openings to allow the 6x9"s in. Had hooked up prior a white multi spade connector so only had to solder on some new wires and crimp some connectors and was soon sorted. The glue gun proved handy in sorting out some tidy routing along with dealing with a somewhat bent speaker grill. Would like to re-felt the shelf at some point as its currently balding. The old pioneers were moved into the door cards to give a better balance. Interestingly after removing the card, there was an existing perforation in the card for a speaker to fit in. I assume it depends on trim spec, made the job a lot easier to do. During wiring these up to the stereo, I fitted several lengths of wire in future preparation for a possible central locking kit.

The K10 got some new shoes, in the form of some 14x6et TSW alloys from an mx5, Same offset so no crazy poke but went on and fitted rather well. The photos below show it sitting on the 185/60/14s that came on the rims. Being from an MX5 meant they were slightly bigger than the original 155/70s. The Mazda its next to wasn't in fact the donor, The new setup made the ride height a little taller but the wider wheels felt hugely better then stock. The new tyres certainly were bigger as they got quite well acquainted with the inner arch... Not helped by the water bed qualities of the suspension. In solution to this, made a trip down to the breakers and had a set of 165/60/14s fitted which gave a subtle bit of stretch and eliminated the rubbing woes. Sitting pretty on some suitable rubber, still a fair amount of arch gap however...

On a trip to get some decent cleaning products, spotted this behemoth. A Dodge Challenger and a Nissan Micra are actually quite similar in a lot of ways, 2 doors, 4 wheels and a hard roof. Anyway, picked up some fancy new products as it was about time the k10 had some tlc. Over compensating ? Freshly washed and waxed, looks 100 times better already. Bumpers still grey and requiring attention, soon to come... - A mate of mines 93' Polo 2F, required some brake bleeding. Interesting to compare the two and see how his VAG was smaller inside than the K10 Had a rendezvous with few pals and their classic daily drivers. Lovely example of a mk2 Fiesta, absolutely mint, not quite as mint as a polo but clean none the less. packed driveway full of 90s hatchback goodness, The k10 with another 91 VW Polo 2f, 87' Lada Riva (parked not broken down) and the fiesta. The rear quarter body panel finally shines thanks to a bottle of t cut and some elbow grease, Colour is still slightly off but at least it matches the shine and texture of the rest of the car.

Decided I was bored of bottoming the shocks and wallowing around every roundabout and corner, so after a spot of internet shopping, a set of OEM Front shocks turned up. I also thought this would be good time to replace the lower left Ball joint which had decided to give up it its job a while ago. Some persuasion in the form of an angle grinder and a rather long bar was required to free the wishbone from its surroundings, the ball joint needed a little more. Thankfully a hydraulic press was to hand so the old one was soon out and with an aluminium ring, the new one was in its place. With the front suspension disassembled, I copper-slipped every threaded surface to make further jobs that little bit more pleasant. On with the new suspension, the springs came off rather easily with a motorcycle spring compressor as they're not much thicker than a spring found in a retractable biro. was about time the K10 lost some arch gap so out came the angle grinder again to take of a subtle coil. quick tart with a cheap spray can of red water and they looked like lowering springs if you squinted *slight Lows With the fronts done, was the turn of the rears but with the back jacked up there was no load on the springs at all so set about making some thinner rubber dampers and machined a pair of aluminium top mounts to try stop the spring coming out under full extension. foolishly I forgot to measure but using my shoe as a highly accurate gauge I estimate a 35-40mm drop

That does look like 35-40mm lowering, mine had a similar lowness (and it had 35-40mm lowering springs on).

You and your mates have some cool rides there! Loving the k10, looks great and mods will inprove handling for sure! Mine was jn modified, amd although great fun was a bit of a land yacht! i'm thinking i may have to have another one myself sometime... Got talking to a paramdeic who was drivng a mods k10 the other day (the guy had a chevvy impala too aparently!) And they really wear a few tweaks well. Can supercharge the engine too I'm told....

Thanks pal! Even slight ones have improved it no end, the wallowness is just part of the fun. Yeah you should definitely before they all disappear into rust. If you can get hold of a march super turbo then you're really in business ...

Dash was looking somewhat plain so got hold of a nonslip rubber mat from work, perfect to soak up your spilt indian lagers when driving bumpy country roads. Also thought it was time to clean the window rubbers as they had more algae then a neglected fish tank. Windows were only held in with 5 screws so was no faff whatsoever. May be running windowless more in the future... The keen eyed among you may notice the additional boot support, as the struts are a quite reluctant, especially when trying to life the weight of the speaker laden parcel shelf. In effort to quash this problem I removed (or as the term is nowadays, 'deleted') the rear wiper mother which had been delightfully retrofitted to the extent it was on the wrong side of the boot and therefore wiped more of the air then window. Out came the rubber grommets to tidy up the hole.
