Is this going to be about 200bhp ? I can remember seeing years ago the SBD kit which had throttle bodies but can remember if they fitted cams as well to get up to the 208bhp quoted .
Either way its going to sound bloody great !

Either way its going to sound bloody great ! it didnt involve cams, but did involve their behemoth exhaust manifold which vaud seems to have.

He reckons 180bhp, but later a couple of uprated cams, should push it to probably just under the 200 mark. i think that will have to do for now, my pocket has a large hole in it, and it's going to take a lot of patches and cotton to repair it! (and so the materials for this will cost as well!!!!!!!)

(and so the materials for this will cost as well!!!!!!!) i'd say thats a good conservative figure on a standard 20XE bottom end. ive done lots to mine over the years (and plenty of recreational rolling road runs) and it took omega pistons with 11.5:1 compression to genuinely breach 200 bhp (standard head and cams) set of the most agressive hydraulic camshafts took that to 220. i have just received the HT leads, so now just need the extra cable to run to the ecu brain, fit the fuel tank and move the fuel line over a bit, and then that should be it. Just the interior to sort out, but that can wait!!!

little update, the car failed it's mot because of running so rich....there 10's & 20's falling out the back! plus both front & rear drivers side brakes were binding, no surprise there! Then i had too much smoke coming from the exhaust manifold area, couldn't see/hear anything blowing, but went out this morning, undone all the manifold bolts, re-tightened turned the fuel regulator down to 2.5 as this was up way too high, fired it up, and again, blue smoke filling the air from the manifold area (as well as the rear box!) so i gave it a few blips, and as if by magic, the manifold area cleared! I think it may be down to a few spillages of oil/liquids etc.... (well i am hoping anyway!) it's got to be adjusted running wise via the laptop so it's now booked in at Track & road in Rainham (Essex) on August 9th 9am Will give you guys a nudge whether it all works out or not, (then time to clean it properly!)

Well, for starters, there was a blow on the exhaust 1/4 the way along from the engine, then the tps didn't seem to work...brand new, and made out of a spastic and his gang of idiots! the guy tried to fool the mapping into thinking it would work, he shaved bits off, tried this, tried that, and got nowhere...then, we took out the plugs and they were filthy because of the over fuelling, so i left and went and bought some better plugs and some exhaust paste, managed to do most of the pipe as i could not get right in between the two tubes, but it certainly helped....then, his no2 turned up, and he removed a tps off a vauxhall race car, but...there was a problem with the lead that we had hoped was all good, so he cut some off here, some off there made some connections, and HOORAY! the mapping started to do what they wanted it to, after attaching the lambda sensor we were nearly there......... i did say NEARLY....
then, we took the jack out, began to attach the straps for the rolling side of things, and just before we switched off the get it positioned, the guy gave it a good rev...... time to switch off! There was that ominous rattle from down below..... you know....that knocking sound..... where there isn't a door... i thought...'just my FU**ING LUCK! then, after returning the transporter to a friend, i dropped my phone...the screen went half green, that was the final straw... i launched it at the wall... i feel better now, i find silence, peace, and near tranquility....after all...i have red wine beside me!
just waiting to hear from a guy who will take the car and look at the bottom end , replace shells and check the crank...... i don't mean to tarnish all Scottish people... but this is the second redtop from that area, both broken! Think i may forget rwd and go buy a Golf!

Bummer. Was it a standard engine? I used to race a red top on the grass and I'd rev it to 8000rpm. Twice I had the cast iron valve guides crack and fall into the engine at high rpm. I swapped to bronze then.

It was 'Meant to be a built head, arp this and that, cometic gasket upgraded rods etc etc... Wossner pistons, the guy wanted 3.5K for it, but his dad put it on the net with no reserve, so £1500 later, it arrived on a pallet. After putting more money and bits and bobs into the car, and after curse word messed me around in the previous years leading up to the 2nd engine, it stands me in (with labour) around 12K. Thankfully, i have left the hammer at the yard and am calming down, looks as though a friend may be able to help, either that or i do sell it, the parts alone all new, untouched owe me thousands, i know you cannot account for the labour costs in the asking price, but this is now (Thankfully) a little way off as i seem to be given a reprieve because of the said help, so hopefully, some shells and possibly a polish/tidy up on the crank (new oil too) may get me back into it, failing that..... it will def' go up for sale, i can't be adding too much time to the 6+ years so far. ok, the latest is.....
engine has been removed, and sump to reveal... a rusty crank, covered in grazes and scars of all shapes, the shells have gone thru the copper and started getting warm, 2 of the pistons have been put in the wrong way round, and the pick up pipe has been repaired...very badly. The head is a proper Martech one, pistons are def' uprated, and luckily, the oil filter has done it's job....to a degree. glad i never paid the £3,500 asking price1 (i would be inside for murder by now...or an asylum!) because the engines set up at present is only 180ish, i have decided to have some hi lift cams fitted, and the have the flywheel lightened, it will be acid dipped as well, and also have a few other bits done, i am looking at another 2K.... oh well, i have come even further than previously...it needs to happen, but never again will i trust anyone regarding 'built' engines, unless there is a fool proof guarantee in one way or another..... i will update this section as it happens.......
