Excellent! Except the blue will show the dirt better than black!! 😁 Just a word of advice: the nylon sleeves will probably start to slide, rather than roll. This will quickly wear a flat, which will prevent any chance of rolling. I used ball races, bearing on tool steel plates, to prevent any wear to the spring:

This was my concern with the nylon but I’m hoping it will at least work well for a while. If not I’ll have to look for a suitable roller bearing to replace but hey for now Justin it’s got to be better than the jelly rubber ends as standard. 👍

There are a couple other concerns with that design of roller. One is that you're unable to tighten the bolt at all because it would prevent the nylon from turning freely; this could result in the bolt rotating instead of the nylon and just galling up the hole in the upright (or just sliding as mentioned above). Another concern is that no one could be bothered to weld the inside of the uprights.. I'm sure you can expect it to last a while without having any issues, but I bought some of the same design and disliked them enough to make my own instead... i.imgur.com/KrFwq2g.jpgi.imgur.com/w5xMLWD.jpgi.imgur.com/JKB0zmI.jpg

If these don't live up to expectation i might just have to give you a shout!

I can supply dxf files so that you just give the files to your local laser/plasma guy to run. Only difficult part is finding a small enough TIG torch to weld the insides of them... Build cost ends up being pretty similar to the price of buying the ones that Historic racing etc. sell. A guy in the UK did contact me a while back about making another run of them, but I really have to make like 5-10 sets to offset all the shipping costs of procuring components from ~5 different vendors. I think I barely came out even the first run of 5 I did, but I was also still working through the design details for that set.

Once I received them I was actually tempted to go down to my local bearing specialist and replace the nylon with a roller bearing but though...meh they should do the job... Maybe this is now something that is actually worth doing before I start putting it all back together. Cheers guys.

Think about a rubber gaiter of some sort, to protect the bearings and bearing faces It's something I always planned, and still do, but haven't yet organised it. I'm thinking motorbike inner tube, but I don't know which size to order. Anybody know inner tube diameters?

Great work on the body work, things definitely speed up once the welding is all done.

I'm in the middle of my second Fulvia resto/mod Taddraughn (Sorry to hijack the thread) Ive just been through your fantastic drawings on the Lancisti forum and would like to make a set for myself. Would it be ok to use your design ideas? Also I understand that one of the key things about your rollers is the hardened steel sleeve over the bolt which increases the "rollerie ness" (don't know the correct engineering term) of the needle rollers and so they shouldnt get flats on the Nylon and last longer.

Hey Luke, I'd be happy to share drawings, dxf files, links to the parts i used, etc. Shoot me an email taddraughn@gmail.com and I'll reply when I have time to gather all the files up for you. The hardened steel sleeve was a great option because it's mass produced as a motorcycle wrist pin, and therefore relatively cheap despite having really tight tolerances and finish that result in a nice surface for the hardened needles to roll on. I guess engineering term is "sliding fit" but i think I like rollerie ness better hahaha

Making a crude but hopefully effective clamp ready to take tension of transverse leaf spring up. Most of all trying to play it safe. I had a go with a smaller clamp that i had made and bottle jack but felt like i was going to get smashed in the face or lose a hand at any given moment so stood back and started again. Poor subframe lives under a sheet while the shell is in the garage unable to move. Need to get these top arms in and then engine and box and roll it back under the body.

Rotten old window runners repaired. These are seen quite often in miserable condition. Water naturally gets in and rusts the metal ribbed trim that sits in the channel creating a bit of mess. I formed some 15mm channel and let in some new metal.

Stripping and cleaning up a second hand brake master cyclinder. They are an extortionate price new. This one was a bit full of crud but was considerably better than my original. New seal kit to fit and hopefully will do the job.

Bloody hell...I've painted her. Desperate to find a few days of good weather so it could bake in the sunshine. Will need a good cut and polish because well its a garage job but it was never meant to be a show car. That'll do for that bit. What a bloody ordeal.

Well done, Chris, that colour is lovely in the sun! Might get a few more days of it through September.Looks like a better "garage job" than mine! :-)

Thanks Justin... don't be so quick to bash your paint job. This job is far, far from great. It's had a visit from some lovely insects and plenty of dust to cut out...plenty. Its a classic case as you've said where it looks good in pictures...not so much in the flesh but just happy to have her covered for now. Its step in the right direction.
