I done a local (cars on the green) type show last weekend at Stamford no photos as it was raining all day But I have uploaded some pics from the street machine magazine shoot so il post them up instead None of these were used in the magazine Well show season is over for me now and the tax runs out end of next month so not sure what to do with it I could make it faster I could make it more track focused but that's not what this car is about for me It's pretty much exactly what I wanted I'm a good half way into my 940 build and that will be more track focused so don't need two track animals So I'm thinking its time to sell this and sink the money into the 940 it's a hard decision

Brilliant build, what a great car! I had a chat to you about it in the paddock at RRG18, one of many people no doubt- wish I’d read through this thread before I met you, I would have looked at the rear suspension as well as the engine install.
Fantastic work you’ve done on the car- I’ll keep an eye out for the thread on your 940...

Thanks I'm terrible with names and then putting real names to user names is just to much for my brain so I wouldn't be able to put a face to the name but I'm always happy to talk car stuff with anyone who's interested so hopefully we had a good chat 👍 The 940 progress will be a slow one due to funds but I recon it will be worth the wait

It's that time of year again Time to get the Volvo back on the road again for the summer First job Camshaft seal Last year I noticed it had an oil leak but not all the time just when it felt like it I traced it to the cam oil seal on the right bank My guess is it's gone hard and when it warms up it seals ok but if you just move it 20 foot and switch it off again it leaks So decided to replace both and as the timing belt tensioner is a ratchet type I replaced that too Not had a chance to drive it yet but I've had it running for quite some time since and it all looks to be ok The to do list is as follows Oil & filter change Change tyres Check rear suspension (been a year since doing it just want to check diff oil and bolts are tight etc) MOT

Lovely work, just the sort of car I want to see on RR, an older car developed with more modern tech as if the factory had carried on making developments.
Got a build thread for the 940?

Lovely work, just the sort of car I want to see on RR, an older car developed with more modern tech as if the factory had carried on making developments. Got a build thread for the 940? Thanks Old cars had a certain style and character so we all like them and want to own them but not necessarily drive them they can be slow and unreliable so I like the idea of bringing them into the future with more modern running gear the turbo was over the top really it didn't need it and it added a lot to the build cost but I had to make an exhaust anyway so why not the 940 is on hold ( I don't do build threads until it's about 75% done because it makes for a slow read for anyone interested) i have the engine and variable parts but it still needs building the 940 will be more track focused and will run twice the power of the 240 so I'm now looking into a completely different rear suspension set up mainly money holding things up

So set about the jobs list Firstly it was an oil and filter change I checked all the rear suspension bolts I also checked for any fatigue fractures for peace of mind as its a new set up And it's all good Next job was grip!! The rear tyres are quite old and don't give as much grip as they should or did once Similar with the front mainly due to the quality of tyre So the plan was to go up a size all round and and fit a newer tyre on the rear So the front went up from 205 to 215 and the rear went up from 215 to 225 The profile stayed the same but this does up the diameter a tad but in a good way so I've ended up with a taller gearing To make sure the rear wheels cleared the arches with the wider tyres I dropped the spacers down from 25mm to 15mm Took it out today for its first run and all good no rubbing from the tyres and you could tell it has better grip So it's back on the road again

Nothing has changed the Volvo is still going strong But I went to a small Volvo event the other day only a couple of cars there It was the volvo600 Guinness world record for the most Volvos in one place (or something like that) The previous record was just under 600 cars so they was hoping for just over but they ended up with around 1500 All at bruntingthorpe It was a slow day as you can imagine trying to get 1500 cars in and set up and get them all moving at the same time And let's not mention the time it took to get back out at the end But it was an interesting day out nonetheless and good to be part of something that big But most of all I was over the moon with my Volvo 3 hours for continues running and stop start traffic and not one issue And best of all once we did get out I could stretch the Volvos legs down the country lanes "what a car"

I think you were briefly behind me, after we left bruntingthorpe. (Silver C70 coupe) You, or someone else, appeared quite suddenly

(Silver C70 coupe) You, or someone else, appeared quite suddenly It's possible but I couldn't say for sure it was a relief to get out on the open road again after all that stop start clutch pumping the drive home was much more interesting

Nothing much to add really the car is so easy to live with It's been sitting on the driveway for weeks now and I just go out to it and turn the key and off I go Went to "retro show" at santapod last weekend It's local to me so I tend to do this show just for the sake of it and I got an invite from a Facebook group for there stand so thought why not Only got two more shows to go to this year and il probably take the M5 for them so that's probably it for the Volvo this year Not sure what to do with it now I have a couple of ideas 1) build a second forged motor and drop that in it (big power) and spec up the brakes suspension drive chain etc 2) mothball it for a couple of years 3) break it "either completely or just remove the big money items and fit a different engine combo and sell it" We will see

Just out of interest, what happened to this car?? Fantastic build and a credit to you!!! I still own the car and its currently sitting on the driveway with a full face covering awaiting the end of covid so it can go out and socialise once more ive not had any reason to add or update this thread purely due to the cars fantastic reliability which is very handy because I've been so busy with other projects I wouldn't have had the time to fix it if it had of gone wrong all going well il have it back out again early next year

I forgot about this.. I remember reading about this before I started my uz turbo build..
For future reference where did you get the oil filter relocation adaptor thing.. I could do with one for mine to get the oil filter out the way so I can run the exhaust through that gap

I could do with one for mine to get the oil filter out the way so I can run the exhaust through that gap If you mean the part that fit onto the engine then I got it of eBay there is a guy that makes all the flanges like the sump and exhaust manifold I believe it's also the same guy that runs the Facebook page " 1uz swops uk" (that may be slightly incorrect I can't remember exactly) so if your on Facebook give that a go it's a fairly simple plate and I was going to make one myself but the plate was cheaper to buy than the tap the gasket and material needed to make it hope that helps
