Getting together some stuff for my camper that the first few trips showed we need.
I need a small 12v wet vac to keep in the van. We have a car sick dog so often need to clean up a bit of mess. Quick look on ebay shows many options. Has anyone got or used one? Any opinions on which ones are worth owning, or not?
Were also going to need a decent torch. My little old mag light doesnt cut it when trying to cross a dark field to get to the toilets. Any opinions on a decent ish handled torch that can be recharged from the vans 12v?
Thanks.

Never had luck finding a decent 12v vac so far. As for torches, i bought a little led one whofh plugs directly into cigerette lighter so constantly charging. Works well, but i also carry 2 led maglites, two tilleys and a vapalux to not run out of light..

Same here TBH, never found a 12V vac worth using, maybe a rechargable one (from the mains) ? Torches are a mine field, check YT for whats what, most come with useless modes like strobe or SOS, i have maybe 30 lights, all LED, penlights, pocket lights, tachtical ect ect i prefer the single mode ones so at least you know what mode it will be in when it comes time to use it, any torch that rechares from a USB wil charge from a cig lighter adapter with a lead, i prefer ones that use 18650s and up to 250 lumins, over that you tend to get more flood and less range IME, i do tend to use my LED maglite most of the time, well one of the few i have anyway lol they are robust, no fancy modes but tend to take C or D cells so are a bit heavyer than the AA OR AAA LED ones? Decide exactly what you want first then do a lot of reserch, the lenser P3 is a good pocket torch and TBH most small LED light will outshine an incandesant maglight. If you already have a maglite get an LED Drop in (replacement for the bulb) and give it a new lease of life ? my 6D maglite has a cree drop in and although it's not as bright as my 3D LED maglite it was cheaper than buying a new one, which i then did anyway cos i'm a torch tart

Do you have any cordless tools - most of the main manufacturers do a torch add on for their battery system.
I can't imagine a cordless wet vac being any good sorry.

As far as the torch is concerned, I'm looking at something like this. I want something that will light the way well enough crossing a field rather than something that is just good enough to see what your putting your feet on. this kind of rechargable is available easily for £15, I just don't know if that will be a wast of money. I do have cordless power tools but I use them every day for work. I want something cheap I can just leave in the van. Rechargable from 12v so I'm never stuck without batteries. As for the vac, I assumed they would all be poor. Just wanted something to keep on top of crumbs on the seats etc and help get rid of the sick residue once weve cleaned it up. Again, loads of that kind of thing on ebay cheap and 12v rechargable so can be left in the van. No point if they are useless though. Both items wont get much use so I'm reluctant to spend loads. Thanks.

Can't go far wrong with Lenser P7.2
You will find they are on sale on amazon regularly. Don't buy off ebay as there's alot of fakes. Only buy direct from Amazon or other reputable dealer.

I had one of those style rechargeable torches it was really really good did about an hour on a charge and you could get a replacement battery from Maplin. Got home from walking the dog one night to find the police waiting as they had seen the beam and thought I was lamping...

Lampings not even illegal! I guess it's more the poaching/trespass angle they were after.
I'm getting all tempted into a lenser now, might see what our local tool shop can do on them trade.

You can get big million candle power torches like that from B & Q for around £10-15 .Might be better than online if you need a replacement. They also do some good LED small torches like maglites etc for less than £10.
Seem like good torches for the money without the brand tax of others.

Can't beat that on price!
Currently making do with a 20 year old 2AA maglight that sort of glows a bit at the floor so you cam miss the cow pats.
Anything will be an improvement!

I'd avoid the cheap million power candle things-I was given one as a gift one year, and whilst they are fairly bright, they only last a fairly short time in use.
And so you then you get to charge it up for a few hours. And then flatten it in 5-10 minutes (again). And so on...
I sacked it off for a D cell mag light with an LED replacement bulb; far better and uses much less juice.
Generally quite handy when i need to get rid of a half dead mouse down the garden at 2am thanks to one of my cats bringing me a present...

For a good torch i'd recommend a convoy from aliexpress, they make models which charge the cell in the light without the need for a separate charger. You can gut a broken cordless batterypack for spare 18650 batteries. You also get to specify modes and emitters and stuff when you order from the official store.
Or then you get like 10 cheapo aliexpress lights, the 3£ zoomable aluminium ones are great. Still need 18650 batteries though.

With torches (as with all in life) you get what you pay for, elcheapo torches wont last, you will end up bashing them to get them to work as they overheat and melt contacts ect, i have 20 or 30 cheapos that do this (yes really 20 or 30) avoid any 18650 that has a name ending in fire, the word is a truism, no protection in the cell and they do catch fire if you don't use a decent charger, lion batterys are a whole chapter in themselves but if your really interested and a look through the candlepower forum, it'll give you a hradach and you'll be more confused as to what to buy after but the battery section is worth a read www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?9-Flashlight-Electronics-Batteries-Includedpersonly i take old laptop battery packs appart and salvage the good cells, pansonic are about the best you can get, i use the good ones in torches and battery packs to charge up my torches and phones when heeded, like below www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302140917258a bit involved i know but what isnt when you really get into it

For the light, make sure you get "COB" LED, (the "bulb" looks like a square yellow postage stamp ) I've got a rechargeable Draper inspection light - magnetic tilting base etc. Nice, bright, about £40 Also got a few cheap inspection lights from Aldi/Lidl/Netto as presents, they are AA not rechargeable but the light is great, and at a fiver a time are disposable items. Not the Cree etc style - the inspection lights are 5W and decent. Avoid the "million candle power" things, I had one, never used it and eventually gave it away. Cheap tat.

That's exactly what I use. It was 10-15 pounds from bandq so look around for one. Its more than adequate to light up where your walking and I'd say it's arguably better as the spread of light is wider so if walking with someone means you can both see. I also have found it useful when doing stuff outside the van (bbq in the dark) as can hang it off stuff to light up your work area.
