I'd also recommend the Rover 800's baby brother, the 600. Basic ones can be had for very little, sometimes even free if it's a bit scruffy.
£1200ish gets you a 620Ti, the ultimate in super-subtle 145mph executive missile technology. ;D

Honda Legend Coupe? I just bought one and they are wicked Self closing doors? Check Seatbelt presenters? Check Wind down rear quarter windows? Check 3.2 V6 NSX derived engine?

Just try the door shut test. Get in car, shut door. You'll know when its a quality motor. YM 230k miles W123 280e had the nicest door shut. Nicer than my LS400, nicer than both my scorpios, nicer than my missus' 53 plate A6 SE... Merc for the class. 280 straight six on fruity pipes for the absolute sweet sound. Plus they are doozies to lower. if you wanna do the door shut test qwert, you can compare shlomps "shut" to the w123s at the next NE meet. had a door shutting conversation with benzboy at RR07, commenting that his 74 w115s doors still shut the same as my 84 123.

The Skyline isn't really a luxury car though.
The Laurel, the Cedric, the Gloria, the Cima, the Leopard and the President are you best bet in the Nissan Lineup.

I had an early 9000. Cracking car. Slow, ill handling and gas guzzling, just the way I like 'em. But built like a tank and super comfy and relaiable. Cost me £170 down the motor auctions, bought it cos of the National Trust stickers in it, bound to be a pensioner car, turned out to be 2 owners FSH car. Nice. 178K on the clock, I ran it and ran it and put some miles on it and sold it for £350. Bought it because I had stuff to get rid of and it was cheaper than hiring a skip. LOL.

Stop fannying around with all these other cars...
Toyota Century is the answer. Replete with retro styling. There are a few in the UK.. they don't sell for much on Ebay.

Last one I saw the bloke was asking £8K for it. Erm, no thanks.
Nissan President is the one I want.

Anything FWD is ruled out of luxury cars, if you can feel the steering tugging at you when you accelerate its not luxury its compromise.

inline engines in FWD cars don't tug. Only really a problem with transverse ones.

Now a statement like that makes me wonder if the rest of his advert is all plums too. Its the slightly earlier model which ran though the 70s and 80s which gives me the jones.

All FWD cars have torque steer in my experience, even the ones with "equal length drive shafts" you cant get away for the feeling especially if the road is a little slippy as one wheel will grip more than the other and a LSD doesn't cure it either, its why i'm stuck in a RWD timewarp, have never found a FWD that didnt do it and its a stupid little thing that really bugs me.
If you cant stick your foot down and have your car go in a straight line (exessive power induced sideways action excluded) while not holding the steering wheel its a shopping car.

I found the probelms with stuff like my old Audi 80 which was an inliner was more that there was no frikkin traction rather than torque steer.
