Just bought a van off ebay, and when I turned up at the sellers house he said he didn't have the V5 . He did however have the green slip of the V5 so the van can be taxed. Normally I'd just walk away, but I need a van, especially as I have a couple of big jobs on next week. So I paid my money and took the receipt, the green slip, and the service pack. Once I'd got home, I tried using the green slip, but it looks like its already been used, and can't be used again. So I have a conundrum - I have to apply for a V5 in my name with the help of a V62 form, but this also means I can't tax the van until its in my name, so a possibility that the van is going to sit on the street without tax up to 6 weeks Anybody know any other way I can tax the van?

It hasn't been stamped, but its had a name/address tippexed out, which was apparently someone who backed out of the sale at the very last moment

Did he not have it very long? I've just had a similar issue trying to tax a car. Promptly forgot about it and tried to do it this morning with the green slip, which wouldn't work. Can only assume my new v5 is on its way...

He's had it nearly a year. Always baffles me when they've had significant time to sort a replacement but that it's never been done. Personally I'd write your details over the top of the tipex and try various offices until it is accepted. Alternatively you may have to call the DVLA. There has to be a way around it. I always tax the car on the sellers property. So if it doesn't work I walk away. Out of interest having posted in your "what daily" van thread... What did you go for?

If the V5 slip is current and there is a slim chance you could apply for the logbook yourself online without paying the fee.

You can ring the dvla and they can tell you whether you can tax it or not, its a lot harder to try and tax off v62 these days. Basically if its registerd to someone else you cant tax it.

What I have done in the past is phone DVLA and blag that you're the keeper that should be on that V5 slip, and say you've applied for it and changed address. Give them your new address, when it comes in their name, sell it to yourself at the same address and avoid the £25.
I think though if you have the green slip, regardless of whether its the current one or not, you can get the fee waived.

He's had it nearly a year. Out of interest having posted in your "what daily" van thread... What did you go for? Decided on another Vauxhall Combo. Not what I was hoping for, but at least its not that Fiat 1.3 engine. I went for the Isuzu 1.7 turbo diesel. The plan was to have a fun/interesting van for work, but probably better to go with dependable/boring, and having the Fiat 124 for "fun" (once its actually roadworthy )

But they have recently changed it, I'm waiting for logbook on my shogun atm, and i had to do the sane in december with my jeep. Po couldnt tax it, and rang dvla and thats the answer i got directly from them. I'm not randomly making stuff up.
