Nankangs aren't that bad to be fair Shame about the palarva getting the car transported though. Is the wheel loose issue not just the washers rotten/damaged on the antiroll bar through the front track control arms? Turns out you weren't far wrong. New washer done the trick. Gutted. For me I would be having a look under the kit - if it's ok might be worth plodding on. If it's rotten I'd be baling out. Well it was rotten.. the sills have previously been welded from front to back. Done to an alright standard I'll admit but still far from invisible. There is one spot of rust at the rear sill on the drivers side that I've spotted that will have to be repaired for the next MOT but aside from that she should be okay. 16) Got a few better photos of the car. Seen here over the inspection pit so I could get a better look underneath her to check out possible rust, damage, oil leaks and the gearbox oil cooler. 17) Front view, Can't wait to get a standard bumper on her. 18) Awful side skirts now removed you'll be happy to know. 19) Some of the welding that has been done on the sills. Both sides have been done like this. Personally not very happy with it although it is solid. Think I will just tidy it up with a flap disc and give it plenty of oxide primer then some stone chip. Will keep the rust away and leave it a lot nicer looking come MOT time. Nevermind the bit of foam lying there, I assume that was done by a forklift when the car was handled by insurance companies. 20) Rust repair from the outside. Not a bad job. Would like to grind it down, fill and paint to leave an invisible repair. 21) The exhaust hanger has been tore off causing the exhaust to hang like it does. A quick grind and weld and should be cheap and quick fix. (See photo 16) 22) Big dent in the floorpan under the drivers rear footwell. Probably from insurance yards again I'd imagine. Sledge hammer should sort that so another cheap and quick fix. 23) Onto the reason I couldn't drive the car. Moving the car at all up untill this point was a challenge even that the wheel would catch on the arch anytime the car was driven forward. It can be seen here that when the front wheel was hit in the crash it was forced back, forcing the track control arm with it. The track control arm pushed through the washers that hold the anti-roll bar bush in place hence allowing the track control arm to move back and fourth. This was a simple enough fix, jack the car up, remove the front wheels, remove the anti roll bar and check it to ensure it is still straight, make a new washer and fight the anti roll bar for around an hour and a half getting it back in place upon reassembly. 24) Top left is the damaged washer that was pushed up the ARB. Bottom left a undamaged conical washer and bottom right is the replacment. The conical washers are simple enough to make. I started out with a sheet of steel around 3mm in thickness (same/similar to the factory washer). Cut to shape roughly with a angle grinder. Dot punch the hole and drill it to size. To turn the washer from flat to conical was simple enough. The washer was placed on the top of the face of a 55mm (or so) socket so that it would sit on the socket but not fall into it. A smaller socket (This time around 17mm) was placed in the center of the washer. With a small bit of encouragement from a sledge hammer the washer was turned from flat to conical. If you wanted a more sophisticated method the washer and sockets could have been placed into a vice and compressed until the washer formed a conical shape (Provided you had a vice large enough). 25) And back to the seller... The gearbox oil cooler was damaged when the car was transported at some stage prior to the seller acquiring it. The seller claimed to have a replacement oil cooler for the car there to be included in the sale. He said he would fit this replacement part to the car prior to the car being collected in order to leave her somewhat roadworthy. In this photo we can see a damaged gearbox oil cooler that has been bypassed by a length of rubber pipe. Nowhere in the car did I see a replacement oil cooler either. Another job added to the list. With the ARB fixed the car was now kind of drive able. By kind of I mean the alternator was still not charging so she would drain the battery fairly quickly. A fully charged battery was put in and the car was taken for a quick spin. Drove very well, no pulling on acceleration or braking, everything seems to work, gearbox seemed to go through all the gears, diff, lights, etc all working. Didn't drive her too hard or for too long for fear of the gearbox cooking itself without the oil cooler. Things are looking better for her now anyway. Have bought a parts car up outside Craigavon, its prefacelift so the front panels are no use to me but the trim, fog lights, etc should be. Thats all for now, hopefully another update when the alternator is fixed, power steering leak fixed, a good wash and that ghastly front bumper has been removed.

Do you sell the front bumper with fog lights? Can you send me some detailed pictures? Sorry, as horrible as the bumper is I'm keeping it with the car in case I ever decide to return the car to original specification. 26. Fitted a factory headunit out of my Sierra as she had a CD player fitted when I bought her. Radio isint wired in yet as the wiring has been butchered for other radios, Will get back to it at a later date. Blanked off the other single DIN hole with a single din tray from a 2001 VW Caddy van to keep the dash looking tidy. After this I gave the interior a hover and a clean. Fixed the dent in the drivers side rear floorpan (as shown in a photo earlier on) with a sledge hammer . Fitted a set of floormats front and back from some other car I've scrapped to stop the carpet getting wrecked. 27. One other thing I noticed now working when I got the car was the drivers rear door wouldn't open. Got it to open by removing the door card with the door closed which was a struggle. Managed to get at the mechanism which allowed me to open the door. Lubricated every thing in sight and the door has been working grand ever since. 28. Passenger rear window which wouldn't work when I first got the car has magically fixed itself so I'm happy out with the cars self-healing properties. Also the paint fell off the half attached spoiler when powerwashing the car so the spoiler has been removed to prep it for paint. 29. Finally bought a donor car. Unfortunately its poverty spec which means the front bumper is no use. Bonuses is its black so less prep when painting if the panels need to be painted. The car was a 1995 Granada 2.0 Auto hearse, reg 95 D 6881. Was on the road untill about a year ago. Was cut in half to make the back end into a trailer. Front half was bought by someone up the top of Donegal for its engine. Was never used and someone in south Donegal bought it. It was listed on facebook and was sold to be about 20 minutes later From this parts car I've gotten Pass headlight Pass sidelight Pass front wing Pass splash guard Pass front door Grill (Will do but I'm on the lookout for a better one) Bonnet Bonnet stay and clip to hold the stay to the slam panel. Glove box Front bumper moldings Side repeaters Panel + screws to hide the battery in the bulkhead And a small mountain of other spares. 30. Part way through stripping the donor. 31. Stripped all the damaged parts off the Granada. These included the front bumper, headlight/sidelight/all associated small brackets/clips. Front pass side splash guard. Inner wing was slightly bent so figured I'd put her on the table and pull her straight again Double acting ram on the extending boom of the Mat bro makes a grand puller for pulling the damage straight and true again. Finally on holidays from college so hoping to make good progress on this over the next week. Hopefully will be ready for primer in a week or 2 working on her between other jobs.

32. Another small problem was the exhaust was blowing at the flange at the end of the exhaust manifold. There was one bolt and one stud. The bolt was doing its job but the stud had no threads left. I tried removing the stud without removing the manifold with no success. Removing the manifold only took around half an hour/40 mins. Wirebrush the stud, let it soak in WD40 and with the manifold held in the vice the stud came out with the aid of a pair of vice grips. 33. Another 40 mins and the manifold was back at home in the engine bay. The downpipe was then fitted using 2 bolts. The blown exhaust was cured and the car sounds like it should for the first time in my ownership. 34. Old damaged wing cut off and a collapse-able section at the bottom of the front of the wing which the wing is also welded was also cut off due to damage. 35. The wing fitted in place. It was held in in this photo by 3 or so plug welds along the top and by vicegrips at the bottom. 36. Test fitting all other panels to the car prior to final plug welding of the wing in place. All looked to be in order so the panels were removed and the 30 or so plug welds holding the wing on were finished. 37. As the car sits at the current moment in time. Filling some minor damage in the wing prior to paint.

It was the most comfortable and enjoyable car I ever owned. I hope you still have it. Regards.....Chris Sorry for the late response, only seeing this now. I recently (in the last 2 weeks) got a haul of parts including most of the parts I need to finish this car. I now have 99% of the parts requied to leave this car totally complete. I only started back into this car earlier today so expect a update shortly. ATM the car looks similar to how it did in the last few photos. Next few steps are to - Fit auto trans cooler - Service auto trans (new ATF and probably filter) - Fix broken exhaust hanger. - Prep, prime and paint sills, bumpers, grill, bonnet, spoiler, pass wing and pass front door. - Refurbish wheels. - Weld end of the drivers sill. - Up to Enniskillen for its MOT. Theres also a few other small low priority jobs like changing the pass/front door card, changing out the radio wiring loom as it has been butchered for a modern stereo, replacing a few missing bits of trim, fixing the boot lock that half works and half doesn't, Change the exhaust tips for they are horrid. Thats about all for now. I plan to have the car road legal for June of this year for the Donegal rally, but she hopefully will be road legal before then.

First I believe we will begin with some Granada Mk3 based inspiration. 38. Prefacelift 24v. Photo shamelessly robbed from facebook. 39. Prefacelift on 18'' monoblocks (More on this shortly). 40. Another photo robbed from google. So it has been roughly 10 months since I made any progress worth mentioning on the Granada.. untill now. 41. I stripped 2 Granadas that were up for breaking and got most of the parts needed to finish this car along with plenty of spares. 42. Rapid sunroof removal. So armed with most of the parts I need I'm ready to launch back into this. 43. Started playing about with a set of monoblocks I have as I have the tires removed from the granada alloys atm in order to refrub the alloys. 44. First task was to remove the back bumper as it needs to be prepped for paint. Also was looking to sort the lopsided exhaust. What I found on removing the bumper was not amusing to say the least. The rear valance had been cut away and replaced with terribly welded in box iron. Luckily it was terribly welded in as that made it quite easy to remove. Sadly this botch job left a fair bit of bare metal exposed which has led to a lot of rust. Looking at the history of this car, I believe this would have been done around 2001 when the twin pipes were fitted. 45. Just to give an idea of the rot that was hiding. 45. So the only job was to launch into it. Starting on the left side first and using the right side as a template. All the rot was cut out including a good 7'' long section of the chassis leg. 46. This is the section of the chassis leg as seen cut away in photo 45. Constructive criticism welcome, I've a long way to go but I'm happy enough with the end result at the same time. Everything is solid and the welds have good penetration. 47. Patch panel number 2. This is the pocket that is behind the left hand chassis leg. Refer to photo 45 for a before view. That is where we are at at the minute. The plan is to have the car on the road for June for the Donegal Rally. There is plenty to do but I've been making good progress in the past few days so heres to hoping she will make it.

48. I make a start on the drivers side corner of the valance. 49. And finally the gap has been bridged. Roughly 8 repair panels in this so far (10 panels if you count in where my method of measure once cut twice didn't quite work out for me). Also have remade the exhaust hangers on both sides, They are still far from perfect but are a vast improvement on what was there when I got the car. The exhaust won't be staying long term but it will do for the minute. 50. The 3 outside panels made and welded in. They are not made as exact replicas of the original but are fairly close. I wish I spent more time fabricating the center of the valance as I was in a bit of a rush to get the car reassembled so the quality of the panel dropped a small bit. 51. Rear valance finished. Painted with Upol acid etch 1k primer and finished with Upol Gravitex (really liked using both of these products, will see how they fare in the long term). The lip above the bumper was sanded down to bare metal and painted with the same acid etch. There were a number of dents and rust blisters breaking out on this panel so a repaint was necessary. 52. The fuel tank and straps were painted with acid etch aswell. Straps were finished with rattle can Simoniz gloss black and the tank with Dulux alloy look metal paint which was a complete disaster. In my defense it was the only thing I could get at short notice but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. 53. Serviced the autobox with new budget brand ATF. Replaced the damanged ATF cooler with a good used replacement as the original was damaged by a car transporter sometime between when it was crashed and when it appeared on ebay. I was going to replace the ATF filter but my local parts place still does not have it in stock in time. I don't think it matters much as my long term plan is to convert this car to manual using a MT75 gearbox as after using this autobox, I can see why everyone says the A4LD autobox is not very refined. After servicing the autobox the car was much nicer to drive, taking gears smoother and quicker. 54. Filler primer on the wing. Also painted the rear lip below the bootlid, the rear bumper cover, the rear spoiler and the passenger door trim. 55. Filler primer finished and waiting to be sanded. 56. Not a bad shine for being painted in a farm shed. Got a wee bit of dirt in the paint but that will wet sand out once the paint has fully hardened. All came out good with the exception of the front passenger wing which came out disastrous enough but its nothing that can't be redone. 57. Threw on a rough poverty spec bumper, grille and bonnet off the hearse as I have not got the ones to go back onto the car painted yet. Pieced back together ready to go for MOT in Enniskillen on Friday last there. 58. Another front view. 59. Rear view showing painted bumper, lip and spoiler. Additional bonus being the twinpipe exhaust which does not know if its up high or down low. 60. On the way home from the MOT. Failed on a frayed front brake hose, headlight alignment and a few other silly things. Should have her retested in the nest week or 2 with all going to plan. 61. More arty photos. I was hoping to have her on the road for the Donegal rally this weekend (15 to 17/16/18 hence the mad rush over the last 2 weeks to get her ready) but looks like its going to be next year. My plans over the next while are to get the car re-MOT'd. Refurb the wheels, Replace the pass front door as its damaged (Have 2 doors but I'll have to make one out of the 2). Repaint the front bumper, bonnet, grille, pass wing and bootlid. Refit the OEM radio. Refurb and refit most of the external chrome trim. Sort out a few wee small bits and pieces. So thats her up to date for the moment.

Did you ever re-test her? Gorgeous car them. Not as of yet. I have everything sorted with the exception of the ABS light. When I press the brake pedal the abs pump comes on and the abs+handbrake lights both come on the dash for as long as you hold down the brake pedal. It has me stumped. I've given the car to a cousin of mine who is a mechanic and he believes it is the abs pump (I think he is on to something as the abs pump sounds slow when it is working.) I checked the one on the front cut of the Granada hearse as seen earlier in the thread but it is completely different. I'm on the lookout for one locally but its not a very high priority at the moment. Hope to have her on the road for the summer next year.

hi,
try swapping the brake accumulator - the black sphere next to the brake fluid reservoir - sounds like it is not storing any pressure if the diaphragm has failed inside it. abs pump should only come on for 30 seconds or so until the accumulator is fully charged to something like 2600 psi. you should then get 3 to 4 presses of the brake pedal with the ignition on umtil the pump kicks in again. Part is obsolete but the wabco unit for the p38 range rover fits. Swapped mine the other week on my 1990 mk3 granny saloon 2.0 dohc efi scorpio

You have no idea how glad I am to find this thread. Seriously, almost welling up.
I have been trying to trace this car for over ten years now since I moved back to the UK from the US.
This was my best mates car way back around 2002 until shortly before his untilemy death. Ive personally driven 100s of miles in this car myself. He cherished it and only sold it because of the stomach cancer that eventually robbed us of him not long after the sale. I was in the US at that time otherwise Id have bought it and woukd still own it today. Not because of a great unending love for Granadas but because it was his and he loved it.
The car lived in Hampton Wick near Kingston upon Thames, Surrey.
I can tell you about the (horrible) rear exhast modification and that the second tailpipe aperture wasnt part of the body kit. Somebody got a broken nose over that whole twin exhaust modification. Long story. But that horiffic job was done in West Drayton and I can even remember the name of the "fabricator" that did it .... and that later had a ENT issue.
But what I really wanted to say was NEVER SELL THAT BODYKIT. It was apparenty one of if not THE first factory fitted kit of its style and used by Fords PR department to convince Ford execs to OK it for release. Personally I love it but maybe I'm just emotional at seeing it again.
My late friend (Stuart) was a very popular guy and a local co-owner of a garage called "RS Autos" and a good friend of the boys at Mercury Motors Ford dealership in Twickeham. Through them contacting their friends at Ford in Brentwood he found out about the kit.
The wheels were never black and were very similar to the Merc rims youve added.
I'm over the friggng moon this car still exists and is being brought back to life. By all means send me a message here and Ill repky with my phone number .... providing new members can get messages straight away, some forums wont allow it. I only joined here after google found your pictures.
In the meantime I will see if his Mrs and kids have any pictures of the car back then.
Made my day.

This was the one car my old man said he would never sell, and I have to say I'm heartbroken that the body kit has been removed. It was a multiple show winning car when my dad had it, WITH THE BODY KIT ON, I would know, I was dragged along to most of them. Please let me be the first to know if you ever sell her, I'd love to have her back in the family !

I only joined here after google found your pictures. In the meantime I will see if his Mrs and kids have any pictures of the car back then. Made my day. Mark Hi, Its excellent to hear from you. My apologies about Stuart, From the history file for the car and what I've been told is that he really did cherish the car. The car is currently reading around 189k miles, whatever it may have been reading the last time you were in the car may have been quite a bit less. It is interesting to see that until the car was taken away by the insurance company and until I bought it, the car never left London, all the previous owners appear to be within a few miles of the city. I did some laughing at your story in relation to the exhaust, When I see the piece of box iron welded in I could certainly see the justification in the 'punishment' he received. It would have been a compliment to call it a bodge. I have no intentions on selling the bodykit. It will be staying with the car should the car be sold or should I decide to return it to original specification. It is definitely not to my taste hence its removal. I hope to acquire a RS bodykit as shown earlier in this thread to refit onto the car. I plan to keep the current spoiler. I appreciate that the futura kit is how the car was supplied from the dealer so someday I may refit it. It does now require some work as the front bumper has sustained damage between the accident and loading/unloading from various transporters. Very interesting to hear about the futura kit being one of the first fitted, If it was the first fitted I may be inclined to change my stance on it and possibly refit it as it would be a shame to have it removed from the first vehicle that said style of kit was ever fitted to. I believe the previous owner swapped the cars wheels with another set he may have had so I do not believe the current wheels are the cars originals. I was in the middle of refurbishing them. I would like to have both sets of wheels available to put on the car as I feel free (the 16 inch granada 24v alloys and the 18'' Monoblock alloys). The Mercedes Monoblocks are very similiar in style to the standard alloys, just 2'' bigger in diameter. I would really appreciate if you had any photos of the car back in its day, I have a few here in its history file, some definitely from Stuarts ownership and some I think may be after. I have also been sent a photo of the Granada mk1/2/3 owners club magazine that had the car as the magazine cover shorty after Stuarts passing. I will send you a message shortly, I'd love to have a chat with you about the car. Hi, Its excellent to hear from another previous owner. You definitely have first refusal should I decide to sell the car, From what I have been told via some members of the Granada facebook page who were members of the Granada mk1/2/3 club was that Stuart loved the car and it was cared for no expense spared. I have some history of the vehicle from his ownership that I acquired from the previous owner after I had bought the car off ebay. There are even some photos of said awards that you mention included. I have no intentions on selling the bodykit. It will be staying with the car should the car be sold or should I decide to return it to original specification. I will say it is definitely not to my taste hence the removal but I appreciate that it was how the car was supplied from the dealer. I hope to acquire a RS bodykit as shown earlier in this thread to refit onto the car. I plan to keep the current spoiler. Once again it is great to hear from people who have previously seen/driven this car, many thanks for your stories and its great to see this thread brought back memories for yous. I will get photos and possibly a short video of the car for yous at some stage this evening. I might also make a small thread update although not much has happened.

the power of forums..gives you a glow when people find things long thought lost.
i drove one of these back in the 90's , the best way i can describe it is like the starship enterprise.. all remains serene on the bridge but all of a sudden you are shifting along at warp speed. very enjoyable.

I like the RS option kit, but it really does emphasise how under-wheeled the mk3 is. I presume you'll be moving the bumpers on rather than just binning them..? *n Yep the wheels do look lost in the arches, I have a set of Mercedes 18'' Monoblocks sitting in the shed that I might try on and see how they look, Have a feeling 18'' wheels will be too big but. No I won't be binning the kit despite my dislike of it. I'll keep it for the meantime, Once I find out some history on the car and whither she had the kit from new or not I'll either keep it with the car or sell it on. In so far as I know there were 2 kits offered by Ford, This kit and a 2nd more popular (thankfully) RS kit that consisted of smaller skirts , a 3 leg spoiler and a small lip for both the front and back bumper. If anyone knows of one of these kits for sale I'd be interested. 6) Photo shamelessly stolen from Google. Front view of a Granny with a RS kit front lip (with a laguna splitter added) 7) Rear view showing the rear lip and the RS kit 3 leg spoiler. This is an earlier car with later back lights fitted, I had one just like it back in the 90's but mine was white and a hatchback

Any recent work or pics on this. Wpuld love to know how its getting along. Thanks No recent work aside from I moved the car from being parked outdoors to one of the sheds once a spot freed up for it. Current status is not great, the timing chain is rattling in the engine on cold start up. I have purchased a parts car (its rusty, brown and its hatchback so I won't feel bad breaking it for parts... I think) to donate its engine to keep the car goings, I hope to do rebuild of the cars original engine whist it is out so it can be refitted to keep the car numbers matching. Also acquired a few other bits such as (more of) my preferred RS bodykit, replacement ABS pump, new speedo cable and some other odds and sods. I hope to get some progress made towards the end of the summer as I'm a tad busy keeping the farm going and working on a few mates cars in between when there is some free time.
