1993 Ford Granada Scorpio 2.9 Cosworth project

Yes someone was modifying her a bit with the painted wheels, tints and bumpers and I'm sure there's people out there who would like it, its just not to my taste. No other plans apart from putting her fairly standard. Possible hit of the lowering stick and new wheels but that will be about the height of it. Power wise I've heard of people using V6 vectra injectors along with aftermarket management which is not my specialty at all. Plans are to sort out the easy stuff first then worry about power upgrades.

I'm glad this has gone to a good home, it was in my watch list for a while but couldn't justify another car. Look forward to seeing your progress with it.

I've got a real soft spot for the mk3 Granada, I had a white '92 2.0 GLX (J508 DNN!) with an RS bodykit and wheels three weeks after passing my driving test at 18 years old and that car taught me more about car control than anything I've had since and I've had a few tasty machines over the years (e39 M5 for instance). It was a pre-facelift so looked considerably different though to the beast above.
There was actually a dark green 24v hatchback for sale very locally about a month or so ago and I literally had to sit on my hands to stop myself bidding on it or phoning the seller to see what he/she would let it go for!

Love these, bought one with a months MoT when I was 16 to tinker with, my grandad used it for that month, 2.9 Scorpio in white, £120 with all the toys and working as well. Would really like another but as with Sierra's they have taken off price wise

I always fancied another but never bothered as I got stuck in with the Sierras instead, when I fancied a change from the Sierras a few years ago I looked about for a nice V6 Scorpio (mk3, not the absolutely horrendous bug eye monstrosity!) but they were big bucks so ended up with an e39. For the same sort of money as what a decent mk3 Scorpio would have cost I picked up a very nice 535i sport. The funny thing is that the e39 didn't seem to be a great deal more refined or comfortable than my old Granada was, Ford knew how to build some proper cars years ago!

I'd done a brief search of facebook before for Granada groups and never found that one. Did a bit more of a through search this time, found it, was added and am now in contact with the previous owner who said he is going to forward on the cars history/paperwork to me and to top it off I've found a few old photos of the car pre accident. Absolutely delighted with that. Can't thank you enough for lead on that page Del.

Well where do I begin.. This car has been one hell of a disappointment.

I first arranged transport on the 02/01/17 via Thomas McGee Transport in Derry, found via a advert on Donedeal. Was told the car would be collected and would be back by the next weekend. No word from him over the weekend, Called him on Monday and out came some bull about bust pipes, usual kinda waffle. Arranged transport with him again, was told it would be collected Tuesday week. Called him when the car should have been delivered again and he had ''forgot'' to collect it again.. Fantastic. Arranged transport with him again, was told it would be collected Tuesday week. Got a call from McGee saying that this transporter was at the yard to collect the car and the seller was nowhere to be seen. Seller was 15 mins away and did not have the car ready, Car couldn't be collected so transporter went on. Transporter had not contacted the seller beforehand as I had instructed, just landed out of the blue.

Arranged transport with McGee for the next week, Was told when it would be home. Called him when he said it would be home and I think I got the bust pipe on the truck excuse again? Can't mind too well at this stage. Car still wasn't collected after 3 weeks. Arranged with McGee again for the next week, Nope he didn't bother his hole that time either. Arranged collection with the same buck once again (Do I ever learn?) and you guessed it, not collected. After 6? attempts my patience was wearing thin and the sellers as well, Hats off to the seller for having this much patience with me I thought.

Arranged Transport with another fella from just outside Strabane, He said the car would be collected on Tuesday/Wednesday (5 weeks after buying the car at this stage). Received word from the Seller on Wednesday night that the car still wasn't collected. Contacted this other transporter and he was apologetic and contacted the seller and sorted it out, Collection was then arranged for Tuesday the following week. Received word on Wednesday that the car had been collected, ''Its a miracle!'' I thought.

I went to collect the car from the transporters yard near Strabane last Friday (10/02/17), Once I seen the car my heart sank. Take a look at the photos from the first post, It was these photos in the eBay add and a chat with the seller over the phone that I had bought the car off of. I took the risk and bought the car unseen... Well that backfired...

Flat tires, Side skirts not far from falling off her, paint fallen off the side skirts all from first inspection before I had walked around the car. Walked over and looked at the crash damage on the front LHS corner of the car. I had asked the seller was the front passenger wheel hit in the crash to which I was told ''No''. The fact that I was fit to move the front passenger wheel back and fourth with my hand like it was on a swing would determine that he was in fact lying. Looked around the car and it got worse and worse.

Anyway I paid the transporter anyway and let him go on his way, The car had a flat battery hence wouldn't start. The connections going to the battery terminals had been cut off and were cable tied to the terminals on the battery. This had to be sorted before even starting the car which took a short while.I had brought a battery so stuck that in and she fired up. Pumped up a few tires, stuck some petrol in and a mate who has trade insurance took on the task of driving her home. It was noticed shortly after starting off that the battery light was on. Given that it was dark we had the headlights, with the battery not charging it only lasted about 2 mins before the car cut out.

The car was towed off the road and dumped in a (very understanding) mans yard at about 10:00 on a Friday night. The car sat here till Sunday night when I went to collect it with a trailer. Another battery stuck in, the car was started and reversed onto the trailer.
Now normally I'd drive a car onto a trailer but in this case it wound up not being that easy. With the car on a gravel yard when the she was driven forward the loose front wheel would move that far back in the arch it would catch on some part of the arch/shell and would lock the wheel. I don't know how this wasn't a problem for my mate who tried to drive it prior to me but anyway. This was not a problem when reversing the car so she was reversed onto the trailer and brought home.


8) A dark photo I know but this is the car back in the yard. Bumper broken and bonnet dented.

10) The damage to the car itself, about as bad as expected aside from the movement in the wheel.


11) The punched out door look (was told about this). The paint fallen off the skirts and the skirts just barely held onto the car.


12) Thankfully the interior turned up no nasty surprises with almost everything appearing to work. Nice and comfortable and a lovely smell of the leather to boot.


13) The engine bay. No surprises here aside from the hacked wiring around the battery terminals and the fact that some miserable sod has nicked all the plastic engine bay covers.


14) Not what you want to see when you buy a car, bargain basement ditchfinder tires, aka Nankangs. Don't say a whole pile for how the rest of the car might have been maintained.


15) In the shed beside her stablemate, a 1988 Sapphire 2.0 Ghia.

Well that sums the car up, I was thinking it was a dear car before I took delivery of it going by the photos/description from the seller. Now that I have it I can confirm it most certainly is a dear car. Honestly that sick of it now I want nothing to do with it and I'm in it for twice its worth. I bought it with intentions of fixing it but its now on a fine line from getting broken for parts. The list of things wrong with the car is fairly long for I have not mentioned the half of them here.

I almost bought the car for the engine, was glad when i saw your post it was going to get fixed up. Shame the seller wasnt straight up with you and its worse than expected.
