Toobs!
I bet those old manifolds would make great looking wall lights, use the original bolt holes to fix to the wall, then have the bulb come out the exhaust end. No? Just me then.

They were destined for scrap, but now my office might be getting some new lights. Just another project for the list!

Headers are on, but having some problems getting the exhaust mated back up. The bolts that came with the kit are the correct size, but only threaded for half the length - didn't have anything in the spares box to finish it off.
The fuel tank issue is still happening, despite the new ECM. Some more investigation required I think, as it's annoyingly inconsistent which tank works.

Did you take it down the street?

Did you take it down the street? I value sleeping indoors too much to attempt that. My girlfriend was already unimpressed with the start up in the garage.

Bit of a random update, but here we go. I actually cleaned the 280Z: Took it for a drive, and it's the same as it was before winter. So I have to get some time to get to doing the valve train adjustment. But it's still by far my favourite car I've ever owned. The truck and Miata have both been out a decent amount as it warms up. The truck has been picking up pallets and a bumper pool table: And the pallets became planters. Finally, I decided to figure out why our sprinklers broke when Comcast retrenched our internet last autumn. Think I figured it out:

I'm more impressed that your sprinklers run on electrickery. Although the only plants I'm aware of that are more reliant on power than water are the ones you have in a secret grow room...

Tapatalk decided to no longer let me log in to RR. Awesome. Back now though. Sprinklers are up and running, just in time for a 3 week dry spell where we hit 30°C+ every day. Needless to say, all the grass is basically dead anyway. Automotive wise, not much has happened. Really lost my mojo on the Datsun with other house projects and stuff opening up with our Covid figures going down. The truck is basically all I drive right now, when I'm not cycling. The pup loves it though, every time the door opens, she assumes we're going somewhere:

Sad to hear about the lost mojo with the Datsun, but these things do come and go. I'm sure it'll come back around sometime soon Re low throttle mapping, isn't it typical to run a blended map with throttle vacuum determining the low throttle fuelling transitioning to TPS for bigger throttle openings? Or did you start with that and got to pure TPS, I can't remember...

I've driven it a couple of times this year and still love it, and it isn't going anywhere I was running blended, and I might go back to it eventually. But for simplicity's sake whilst I'm ironing out issues, pure TPS makes it a little easier.

Gotcha. Was wondering if low-throttle issues like this might be why people go for blended maps. Just guessing mainly! Half the reason I'm keen for more Datsun is a mate of mine has throttle bodies coming for his M62 engined E36. Need someone to show the way! Also, with the lopsided suspension, it'd be worth getting someone to sit in the driver's seat and then check. Might even itself out

Although my better half has other plans I suspect. I also have a pile of parts to fit and clear up the front end..

It's been a few months, so let's see what's happened. I'm just back from a couple of weeks in the UK, nice to see my family after a couple of years. Covid restrictions for travel weren't that bad. Current state of the fleet: Datsun is still in it's corner, waiting for my motivation to return. The Volvo went in for a service, and given a clean bill of health. The Miata is awesome, and needs nothing other than a good wash. It got treated to an oil change. We sold the Equinox. Farewell you hateful waste of space. The F-250... aaaah, the truck. We've been taking it everywhere. It was leaking gearbox fluid pretty enthusiastically, so went into a local shop. They solved most of it, but I noticed it happening again the other day, and the internet will convince you that you can fix anything. So, out comes the interior: (this image was sponsored by Ryobi). Identified that I have the Mazda 5-speed gearbox (M5OD-R2), which have three rubber plugs at the rear that are known to fail. The local shop had pulled off the top cover, and resealed the whole thing, but didn't replace the three plugs. Common fix is to use brass freeze plugs instead with a bit of sealant - so that's arriving soon. I'll probably give everything I can see a good clean as well, because that must be an extra 3 or 4 KGs of weight I'm carrying around. Finally, the truck has always had a vague-at-best gear change, often preferring the mystery gear somewhere between third and fifth. That's definitely seen better days. It's being replaced with a short shifter kit, which should reduce the throw by 40% - I'm hoping it'll make it feel a little more modern to drive. Everything arrives this week, so I'm hoping to get it all fitted by the weekend. Oh, I also picked up a fat bike to keep me riding as late as possible into the season. Just waiting for some snow now.

Grabbed a couple more hours last night on the F-250. So we left it needing to replace these three rubber plugs. Which means taking the top gearbox cover off: Replacing them with metal freeze plugs, which seems to be a popular upgrade: State of the old rubber plugs - plenty of oil on both sides of them, so hopefully this was the culprit for the remaining tiny leak: All back together with the short shifter kit fitted: Confirmed I can go forwards and backwards in the constraints of the garage. Ran out of time last night, but I'll chuck the bench back in and take it for a blast around the neighbourhood, and hopefully leaks will be gone. Oh, and the short shifter feels AMAZING. All the slop is gone, the mystery gear between 3rd and 5th no longer exists... can't wait to take it out properly.

When you say "the mystery gear between 3rd and 5th" I'm assuming you don't mean fourth, instead it's a sort of 3.5 gear as far as selection goes? Here's hoping the leak is cured now too.

It's a toss up if you end up in third or fifth, and normally will be the one you don't want. Took an hour drive this evening, will check for leaks tomorrow. Felt great to drive!

Haven't really been up to much since... wow, October. It's cold. So cold. I'm unmotivated to do anything in the garage. On the rare occasion it gets above freezing in the garage, I've been getting underseal slapped on the chassis frame rails of the truck to try and protect it for as long as possible. The only rust on the truck was the bed, which also has a sweet dent in one side. I've found a place in Wisconsin that sells rust-free beds from the South, so I'm waiting to see if they have a replacement in stock... which then probably means repainting the truck as well. Oh, and the short shifter / gearbox fixing went well. Feels awesome to drive. Now the transfer case is leaking oil, probably from lack of use over winter more than anything.
