That is a brilliant bit of information. Thanks bosnod. My carb is the 109 model with the switch on the throttle stop also. Cutting the fuel off during over run to save fuel. I won't be using that bit though. Thanks again.

I've inserted the Volvo silencer into the Estafette system (pipe). I marked it out on some cardboard so it all lined up. It fitted straight up luckily. Started the van up and now it's spitting back a little bit, there's a whistle and it's stalling again. I think there is an inlet manifold leak. (I didn't replace any of them as I was only mocking it up. I drove it to the bottom of the lane and back. It drives better than the old carb but it's no faster. Exhaust is quite raspy so I'll add another silencer to quiet it down at some point. Parked it up and took some photos. I'm off cycling with the family (on a cycle path with no Lycra)

No photos today. I took the van over my brothers to try and get it driving better. The first thing we did was remove the breather pipe from the rocker to the inlet. This stopped the whistle and it now idles again. We also reset the mixture as per the manual (thanks again bosnod) and adjusted the timing as it was retarded. The van drove a lot better but on the test run the alternator started to make funny noises and as worn away the belt. Even though the alternator is now spinning smooth and free I think the alternator is going full charge and is stopping. This used to happen randomly in my farthers Renault 5 years ago and would snap the belt. I've got the Volvo alternator so I'll see if that will fit or i may have to get the regulator replaced on the original. In fact I'm not even sure if the regulator is in the alternator or if it's external.

I'm doing a Motorkhana tomorrow so I needed to put the rally car on the trailer in the garage ready for an early start. First off the battery on the rally car died. It's been going flat if left for a week for the last 6 months or so. I put it in charge a few days ago is it was turning slow, but this morning it was completely dead. £39+vat later and it's sorted. I thought I would take the opportunity to see how the rear looks with it lowered by hooking the rally car and trailer up to the van. Where the Avensis usually drops a good few inches at the rear with this connected, the van did not move. The springs must be super duper heavy duty. I was gutted. My intention was to cut the springs but the rain showers were putting me off. But then I thought sod it. If I go in the house Mrs Jonsey will find me something to do so I may as well take a shot at it. With the wheels off it's only the top shock nut holding the spring in so off it all came. There should be check straps holding the am up but they're broken. Looking in the spring pan with the spring out it was full of chippings and dirt. This could have been holding the spring out of the pan giving extra height. So with the springs out, this happened This resulted in the rear wheels going from this To this Looking a lot better. The van is now sitting flat and without the stupid positive camber on the rear. I think I'd like it lower but will wait until it's boarded out as it will drop further with a bit of weight.

You need to get Steve to put a thread up on the Volvo. It's only when I drove off I realised I didn't have a look at it

It's only when I drove off I realised I didn't have a look at it To be fair, all the interesting stuff on the Volvo is done and not really documented, so it would be a very short thread. Your van is super cool, the sliding door is awesome. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread!

Ah, bosnod = Steve. When you put up the carb manual saying it helped you tune that carb, I did not realise you meant that actual carb. Thanks for the kind words on the van. I'll be fitting the rest of the engine in the winter as I need to pull the gearbox to sort it droning in 4th.

As much as I'd like to go, I don't think the van would get there with its whining gearbox. I'm limiting its use and then rebuild the box over winter.

The gearbox is designed specifically for the Estafette. It's based on an R8 gearbox turned upside down so the gear pattern is odd. If you think of a standard H patern shift, looking from the top my gears are 2 1 4 3. If that makes sense. The MatranDjet did borrow the box but has sensible ratios with a 4.125:1 final drive. The van has a 5.8:1 making 60mph absolutely flat out and defining. A bearing is noisy so don't want to blow it up as there pretty thin on the ground. I've organised today for a guy to rebuild it.

Could you fit the 4.125:1 diff to yours if you could find one?

Could you fit the 4.125:1 diff to yours if you could find one? The possibility of finding a Djet box/diff is next to buggerall. You can buy a new diff ratio that's 5.0:1 from France but I think that wait until they have a certain order amount before commissioning and the price is nearly 1500 euros. Now if it was a ford English diff you wanted, you can get a whole range of ratios for under £300. To pay 5 times that for something similar would break my heart. I did a bit of googling this week and found a company in Scotland who specialises in making CWP's and adverts that will do bespoke ratios. I'm tempted to give them a call and get a quote. It may involve buying a certain production run but is probably worth investigating. The most popular moan of estafette owners is the poor gearing

Back from a weekend in Warwickshire so back on the van. Not a great deal done but new fan belt fitted to replace the worn away new one. I've also fitted a new voltage regulator for the alternator as I think it was constantly charging Solid state, not mechanical so a good weight saving there 😁. I then went over my brothers garage to check the gearbox oil level. I had been thinking it might be low due the noise it makes. You'll be pleased to learn the noise is because it's fooked and not because of user error. I re adjusted the break shoes while I was there. Once home I thought I would look at the blower motor unit. If you've been paying attention you'll remember I removed it a few weeks ago as the motor had let some smoke out. It turns quite slowly and needs a bump start. I cleaned the com and measured the resistances from segment to segment. Most were just under 1 ohm, but one was 24 ohms. I think the motor is dead. Anyone know where I can get it rewound? The chances of getting a replacement are pretty low. Even though the motor is dead, I rebuilt the unit, repairing all the controls. All the doors now work. I've refitted it to the van so I don't loose any bits and also because the heater core is on the bulkhead and it's boiling in the cab whilst driving along.

By the way, don't know if @clement is still here , but maybe he's able to help you search for an heatermotor for an estafette. He probably knows how you properly search for ons in french....
