It's been a little quiet on the updates front but a few things have been going on behind the scenes. Few more bits and pieces have been hunted down and fitted, joys of doing things the somewhat strange way means initial solutions aren't always obvious - tank sender for a custom MGB tank... of course you need an MGA one?!? Many more fixings and fittings have been sorted, bagged and relabeled to plain english (as opposed to a reference code) during the eves I have also made a start on figuring out the existing looms ready for additions/moves to be implemented (sponsored mostly by a very nice breakfast stout) Hoping progress on this will ramp up once I have a few things laid out for connecting to. I also went and dug out chrome bumpers from storage as with current lead times for rechroming I really need to get these sent off sooner rather than later. Although I will keep the rougher set back for test-fitting everything during the dry build... I may also have an alternative plan in mind for one of them...

Is that MGA sender needed because of how it mounts? I only ask because it’s likely that it’s resistance will run the wrong way full-empty for MGB gauges...

Partly for how it mounts and partly as it was the one recommended to me by the MGOC after much research as being the right one to use, I guess the proof will be when I test it for the first time.

Sometimes, others may not understand why you like a car so much. Sometimes, you may not even understand why you like a car so much. But none of that matters; all that matters is that you like the car, and having it makes you happy.

Not much to update on thanks to the house having to be turned back into, well a house for viewing purposes... so no 'loom room' for me nor are any other parts currently accessible for tinkering with That said, I have been playing with the looms as and when I can though, so both variants are now labelled up ready for hiding in the wardrobe once more . Next steps are to - add the missing pieces from the older loom to the later loom
- work out where the various new additions need to join the party
- order the various connectors and make up the dash sub loom
- add in the extra relays and additional fuse box
It's all good fun... I think...

Is that where you’ll be assembling it? Looks clean and well appointed, ideal place for engine building

Yes, but just remember a complete engine can be wider than the doorway. They are also a LOT heavier to carry downstairs!.... Yeah but... He's moving, so a couple of bashed around door frames won't matter too much and don't forget, coming down, you've got gravity on your side!

Is that where you’ll be assembling it? Looks clean and well appointed, ideal place for engine building Errr sadly not... would be rather nice though Yes, but just remember a complete engine can be wider than the doorway. They are also a LOT heavier to carry downstairs!.... All noted Phil, thankfully I don't need to worry about any stairs... speaking from experience are we? Yeah but... He's moving, so a couple of bashed around door frames won't matter too much and don't forget, coming down, you've got gravity on your side! The minor flaw is that we need to sell the place first! Once we've got an offer then it's no holds barred More viewings tomorrow and so we shall see what happens, may be time for a change in strategy. That said, we've still not found anything that really ticks what we're after as a replacement, well asides a few places in a completely different part of the country where all you can see is land and sky - must confess it's becoming more and more tempting by the day! On a positive note I have potentially already sold the small garage that's separate from the house and next to our neighbours, to said neighbour... let's just say the kitty for its slightly larger replacement could be looking healthy

All noted Phil, thankfully I don't need to worry about any stairs... speaking from experience are we? Yes... building the race 1098 cc engine in the spare bedroom seemed to be a much better idea than building it in the garden in the snow. Taking the bits upstairs was easy (block, head, crank, pistons etc)....and there is not room for two people side by side or up and down to carry it downstairs......

Could get used to this having some time off malarkey, albeit am now working in collections and deliveries it seems 😂 So to add to the pile I've had a busy morning sorting a few things of my own... Few drop offs now before heading back to the other mistress for some more stripping action 😉🤣

I’ve got about 18 tons of fertiliser that needs moving ? So have you got all the bits for the engine now in an expensive pile in the corner ? I’ve lost the plot slightly. James

I have a BIG 3 piece suite that needs moving, you know where I am ian... I did manage to get a 3 piece in the back of the disco after an inadvertent purchase by my darling wife, let's just say she had to drive home and I ended up curled up in the passenger seat after nearly having to get the train the rest of the way. Still amazed to this day we got it to fit.

James Yeah that won't go in the back of the car, could borrow a couple of bits of kit from the farm but imagine it wouldn't be the most efficient way to go about things 😂 You think you've lost the plot, given this year so far I'm starting to question of there ever was one... Anyway all bits for the engine are together in a very expensive plastic storage container in the shed, they were expelled from the house due to viewings etc. ☹ Once I've finished stripping the celica and moved the shell I'm hoping to get the engine on the stand and start to build things up, although I need small bits like cooling pipes, cable retainers and dipstick tube etc. Have given up on A/C for time being as not got much response from the folk who were looking into a solution for me and how to run it with the front pulley system I've gone for. Something to come back to perhaps... although that does now mean there is room for a small snail in the engine bay... 🤔
