Not sure the Smiths ones I've seen go that high 🤣
Will do some more digging, all the reading I've done so far echoes Glen's thoughts of the voltmeter being a better bet, not just due to the dynamo/alternator issue but also due to wiring issues and potential fire risks.
Speaking of wiring, going to start having a play tonight... wish me luck

Ammeters are great for potential fires. Do you really want 60amps unfused running through the dash?

Thing is, how often do alternators fail nowadays? It's nice to know the voltage output (I have a voltmeter in mine) but in reality it's not a particularly necessary guage. I was going to put a push start button in the roof dash of mine, but in the end decided I did not want even that sort of current running unneccessarily through the dash.

Other gauges are fuel and a combined oil/water gauge. Clock is not a bad suggestion, have one already for the centre console, thinking about it I could swap the clock to the centre and move the oil/water across... that would really confuse folk . Will have to see how it looks. The idea was literally to find something of semi-use to fill a hole... or in this case three - all suggestions/input greatly appreciated though, thanks all. Tonight's task while SWMBO is teaching online is to use an idea both jim and one of the latest 64impala 's vids show: Jim's vid hereCarPervert vid here (even if you're not into electric cars, the episode is well worth a watch if you've not seen it - a fascinating company IMO) anyway, it's a 'loom room' She's going to kill me... 🤣🤣🤣

She's going to kill me... 🤣🤣🤣 I take no responsibility in what your wife does! I wrote in my vows that I wouldn't bring car parts into the house - the only vow I've broken other than learning the rules to tennis! I've just started dismantling mine so I should have some news on it when it's all sorted, it does make things a lot easier to test and repair though...

How big is you dining room table?? Errr it's still rather covered in other parts, hence the 'invasion' of another room In truth I only needed to lay it out to start labelling connections and then it could be tidied back up, it's when I want to connect and take my time over things that the fun will begin She's going to kill me... Well I'm still alive so no responsibility passed... yet Including that in your vows is impressive. Given that when K and I we met, my coffee table was a V8 and the wine rack a 2.8 straight 6, she didn't even try. That and I've not abused the oven or dishwasher yet... although interestingly she has... It looks like a really good/sensible way of doing things, I'm cheating a little in that I'm starting with a new loom but have the odd addition and the need to move a few things.. should be fine once I get stuck in... he says.

That's good to hear!
Mrs Jim also put into her vows that she'd help me with the Cortina which will come into play as I need help bleeding the brakes. I like the table and wine rack idea. I have a tyre from a viper GTS that I acquired from the team during the Britcar in 2009 that's begging to become a table. When our dishwasher arrived I was given specific punishments in graphic detail that would never pass the forums filters if any car parts where to be cleaned in it - I'm genuinely terrified!
I should have cheated it would have been a much easier process!
I also scanned my loom diagram, coloured it in on paint then deleted lines to create specific diagrams such as headlights, indicators etc - it makes the work easier.

Doorbell goes this morning while I'm in the office and a voice comes up from downstairs "your favourite delivery man is here..." "oooh beer" (thinking the local brewery's finest had arrived just in time for the weekend) "No, not that delivery driver... the one from FedEx, and he's struggling... what the hell have you bought now?!" "Ahhh..." Yup that's quite a sizeable box 🤣🤣 Finally have the bits I need to finish some outstanding jobs this weekend then. Fingers crossed the beer arrives for the perfect accompaniment. Talking of which, Mrs T has been busy too while finishing the inner front panel of this While I still need to carry on sorting and labelling the rest of this In the meantime some sage advice I was sent this morning hopefully of use to you all during these interesting times

Another of the parcels I've been waiting for arrived today much to the bemusement of my long-suffering wife, especially as she beat me to answering the door yet again - oops! (More on my penance for that in a bit) Any guesses as to what's inside Given the price I picked these up for, the wrapping alone must've cost a fair amount, fair play to the seller, they were very thorough. and the contents... More rear windows. Those of you with a keen eye will have spotted a slight difference to the set I already have - the green tint. However that is not the reason I picked these up as I will be using my existing glass all being well. What I spotted when I saw the ad was these Relatively intact, unmolested and unrusted screws, as well as some spare mounting brackets and a set of the corner extenders, one of which I'm missing. Guess I'll be playing glazier this week in addition to the ongoing wiring puzzle. Oh and my penance... I'm doing dinner tonight, it's a small price to pay

Not a big update as spent a fair bit of the weekend on the Celica and still getting a bit of a kicking from the day job during the week, that said I do appreciate I'm one of the lucky ones at the current time... I think Anyway there was a bit of a sort out on Monday at the behest of Mrs T who wanted her dining table back, so everything got moved outside instead Not much else to show as I got covered in oil/grease, as well as finally getting the rear axle gasket fitted and all bolted back up so that could be moved to storage as opposed to living on the floor under the table. Also continued with labelling up the wiring, need to stop avoiding it and get stuck in properly though, also need to finish the dashboard mods but need to procure a hole saw... Going to start burning some annual leave in the near future as been told I need to lose half by end of August so some bigger jumps in progress may follow too.

Don’t use a holesaw to cut your dash for gauges. You’re better off hacking at it with an axe. Holesaws are fine for somewhere you can’t see, or where the finished effects can be tidied up with a bit of trim, but they’re nowhere near accurate or neat enough for something that’s going to sit in your eyeline forever.
Either mark it carefully, chain drill out the majority and finish with a half-round file, or get a Q-Max cutter.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

If you do use a hole saw, go for one a bit undersize. They always cut about 2-3mm bigger. Then you can file out to your scribed line.

Sam, if you measure the hole you need,I probably have a chassis punch / greenlee/ q max cutter to suit.😊
