The insurance is comming up for renewal on the Favvy, last year it was £202. so you can imagine the words I used when I opened the renewal notice today - £382. I'm a year older, the car's a year older...... I thought insurance was supposed to go down....... Anyway, I've found a quote for £189, so its4me can go $!%& themselves...... ;D
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Who gave you the quote for £189 Mattblack? Can anybody else recommend cheap insurers for classic cars that provide a half decent customer service as well? 'Admin' costs wind me up the most...it cost me £25 for my insurer to change my address on there computer

Cheers rmad, am I right in saying that your only entitled to 'classic car' insurance if the vehicle is not modified in any way, or does it depend on the type of modification e.g. alloy wheels from a different model but same make. I've heard of some insurance companies weaselling their way out of paying up because the owner did not state that the car had alloys on it, even though they where optional extras

FJ are OK about mods, although they wouldn't insure my Herald. I told them it had a V8...and their next question was "is it an American V8?" - only then did they say no! But lowered (they didn't ask how much and alloy'd doesn't seem to pose a problem.

I'd recommend Lancaster as well.
Just as an example, I'm 24 and I'm insuring the Fastback with them on a classic policy (so doesn't take no claims into account), inc agreed valuation at £3000, for less than £200 fully comp.
Similarly the Ghia is insured by them (with all the mods listed) with an agreed value of £4800, at about £250 fully comp.
Pretty good deal I thought.

coop (CIS) insurance don't count stripping out, buckets, harnesses and roll cages at all, as long as you tell them, a lot of companies wont even touch you with a cage!

Done my policy on the Zin Zinner through Elephant on t'internet. Most of your Cla**ic insurers weren't interested as the car is only 14 years old. If it was a 15 year old common as muck 316 it would be fine though . Anyway, it's costing me just over £500 a year fully comp including breakdown cover, plus the cover to drive for business purposes. A little steep, you may think, but I reckon it's pretty reasonable considering I got zip no claims (car stolen by travellers two years ago) and the BMW is a bit of a beast. Also when you think I was paying over £700 thiss time last year on my old 1400cc Astra, it's a bargain. Feel sorry for the Boss of me & Jabbo - He gets stung for over £400 on a nearly Polo despite being 30+ with nearly full NCB. It is totally random though.

i had my golf with elephant last year as no-one could come close to the price they offered me. When i came to renew this year a friend pointed me to www.confused.comwhich was great, it a comparison site. You enter your details and they email you with the quotes from LOADS of companies. Saved me another hundred quid

The person on the phone just said that wwas their policy..........! Motherf*ckers! Anyway, stay away from Adrian Flux - they're curse word! HIC (Herts Insurance Company) are pretty cool.

I concur about Adrain Flux, bunch o Ba*****s.
They were the cheapest quote on my old Samba rally car. Was paying monthly, so when the Samba went I cancelled the policy and received a bill for more than the total cost of the policy as a cancellation fee!!!!!
Talk about small print.

Hyperformance are pretty good. Used them on a Mk2 Golf GTI and they undercut Adrian Flux by over £100.

Quotes I've had are totally random. When it comes to renewal time and they ask me "How much are you currently paying?" I always tell them a figure a good £50 cheaper than it really is. 9 Times out of 10, miraculously they'll quote a price £20 less than that - hey presto, £70 saving!! They're all a bunch of thieving scum anyway. If it wasn't compulsory the price would soon drop

TPFT insurance should be in the price of fuel. It's a total no brainer. There's no way around paying it if you want to get on hte road so it avoids the little 'uns with no insurance and the ore you drive the more you use, the more you pay!

Do we really want to give the Government an excuse to bring fuel prices up though, we all know they'll take the oppurtunity to increase it by far more than they have a right to, they're doing it just now, saying that the current war on terror/innocent Arab civilians has made oil prices go up by way more than it really has, the rest is going straight into some capitalist's pockets without us knowing. That's the plan anyway, but none of us are fooled, right? ;D ;D ;D
