Hello all, My name is Eloy, 25 YO from the Netherlands. After having some cars and a motorcycle(EK4-E30-CBR600rr) I wanted to venture into the world of oldtimers. This year my dad and I finished a 2/3 year Lancia beta coupe project, this was his personal favorite car as he had one when he was about 22. We did the majority of the tasks ourselves from welding to bondo-ing and what not, this gave me the oldtimer goosebumps I guess . I looked a long time on the internet for cars that I really liked, I doubted between a BMW 1602 or an MGB. I wanted a oldtimer coupe with RWD and a more spartan drive feeling, but a car that can use some 21st century upgrades to make it more fun. So a week ago I sold my E30 and went looking for an MGB GT, after looking at some cars we came across a car that I bought and will pick up tomorrow. it's a white MGB gt from 1973 fitted with a 4 speed manual with overdrive, it's an original dutch car the previous owner had the car since 1986 and has kept the car is a good shape technically. The downside is that the exterior is a bit "scruffy" paint shows some blitsers at several places(different colours of white), and they sticked some horrendous stickers on the car. as far as I can see the car has not a lot of structural rust, there are some welded patches but these still need to be covered with bondo and get painted. My goal with the car was to have a rolling project as I am still a student, i'm quite handy with the exterior work and my dad can help every once in a while with technical things. but I want to do as much myself that's why I signed up here and bought the Heynes manual . Tomorrow is the big day, I'm going to pick the car up and give it a thorough clean here are some pictures of the new gorgeous.

This is the car my dad and I rebuild, it's not totally composed out of original components as we wanted to create a car to our taste, my dad being more traditional/standard and I like to look for slight improvements.

So great news, I picked the car up today and it ran beautifully. About 100 km on the highway without any issues, engine feels nice and powerful and the overdrive makes cruising at 75MPH a joy. When I returned I immediately started with pulling the stickers off, unfortunately some where on for such a long time that a colour difference in the paint can be seen:(. The car looks way better without flags on the bonnet, a chrome racing badge on the back, or a NOS sticker on the rear wing haha! it gave a wrong impression about the car, it can get along in traffic but a proper race is not that realistic at the moment:P. The MG was treated with a 3 hour cleaning session(with help of GF), resulting in a cleaner car and giving me the change to see every nook and cranny. As stated earlier it is not the best looking car as some exterior work has to be done, but I didn't pay concour price so fair enough. I did wonder if there are some rubbers missing in the door, you would say that there should be a rubber in place to keep the water out. If anyone knows please let me know! So the plans for the coming weeks is to purchase the essential tools (english tool kit, angle grinder and a basic sanding machine), I do not have to buy everything as my dad has a fair amount of specialistic tools in his shed! I want to tackle with the biggest task first: The quarterpanels, they have been opened a short while ago(not sure how long) and new plates have been welded in. The previous owner said no corrosion was behing the panels, so I can start with sanding the welds down and make them flush again with the body. I'm thinking about something creative and unique for the colour, I'm not planning to do a full body re-spray this year as that would cost me too much money. The design of the 277 car of Magnus Walker would be kind of cool as a temporarily look for the car (in my opinion of course). Here are some pics of the quarter panels

A good choice for restoration as you can buy all the parts to build a complete car if you wanted to, everything is available.
I love your definition of a 'really old car' :-) Is your definition of a really old car one that is over 15 years older than the owner? :-)

Thanks! I think I'm definitely missing a piece of rubber when looking at the diagram. Are they quick with shipping?

Thanks! I think I'm definitely missing a piece of rubber when looking at the diagram. Are they quick with shipping? Very quick within the UK, couldn't say for outside of the UK however. They seem pretty on the ball but as I said, not always cheapest so pays to have a shop around. They are just the first guys who sprang to mind with the usable parts diagrams
