I've got a mk2 polo breadvan and I want it to sit a bit lower. Would I be able to use the standard shocks if I get some 60/40mm lowering springs?

Iirc they can only take a small amount of lowering. If they do take it the handling would be... interesting.
Demon tweeks have Bilsteins et al cheap at the moment. Always do it as a matched set!

It'll be very bouncey. For the price of a shock and spring kit (about £120) its worth getting the kit.

I had a Mk3 Coupe on 80mm/60mm lowering springs and lowering caps on the front with stock shocks. Wasn't that bad iirc, still had a bit of travel left.
