Vanden Plas Princess 1100. W Sussex. £2K 1964. Modest mileage. Manual, (TC). Early one-owner crusty garage find project laid up for 45 yrs. Plate might be worth something? I'd say that's a worthwhile project for someone - yep they rust for fun but doesn't everything of this era - nice on the road examples are now strong money - none the less you could still end up spend twice what's its worth getting it right but have a lot of fun doing it - they make for a nice car when done properly

Then, who parks a car up for 45 years unused? Perhaps a widow who couldn't part with it. It needs a full restoration but would be very worthwhile. I had a VDP 1300 auto years ago, low mileage and had been owned by an elderly lady from new, it more than kept up with traffic of the day and handled very well.

I think it's 'only' been laid up 35 years, since the tax expired in 1985...
Looks reasonably solid, mostly in need of cosmetic refurbishment. 'Sticky clutch' is probably due to the hydraulics needing bleeding or replacement.

Very similar to my first car inherited from my Grandad when I was 15. Same colour scheme. Although my was a slightly later 1300 auto. I'd love to bring this one back to life, but I'm out of space as I seem to have lost the keys to my barn

Good find! These came in 2000, 2300, 2600 & 3500 petrol or 2400 Diesel. A lot of police forces used the 2600, it was rumoured that while they were re-hashing the Triumph inline 6 for use in the SD1 the boffins had to tone down the performance of the 2600 because it was too close to equalling the 3500. 43 years ago your SD1 2600 would take you from 0-60 in 10 seconds and it could brush 120mph on the autobahn. My uncle had a 2600, it was a very comfortable ride, had a bit of a turn of speed when needed and more than enough power to effortlessly tow something like a large caravan. As these became older cars the legendary V8 example was most sought after and so not many of the smaller engined cars have survived which will increasingly add rarity value.

I'm trying to find another XM estate, and this is the one that keeps coming up. There are a few hatchbacks, some of which are a similar price, but you could move into this and use it as a house! Thank goodness it's in Ireland so it's not temptingly near! (and which also hides the MOT history.)

Rover SD1 3500 Vanden Plas EFi. Yorkshire. £4K 1986. Out of MOT. For recommissioning and improving. I remember growing up 2 of my neighbours drove these, I used to drool whenever I saw them, now there are only 6 of these left in the UK! (Compared to the Vitesse which are still numbered in the high hundreds). Archive picture:

So much want. www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1155683 Supercharged retro estate goodness. Seemingly with good mechanicals and flat grey paint. I had a project one (just the 2l) 20 years ago, but it got scrapped when I lost my garage and the backyard resto place I took it to discovered more holes than metal. I don't think I can get 4.5k past the wife though it's probably the last opportunity to buy one of these.

I don't think I can get 4.5k past the wife though it's probably the last opportunity to buy one of these. I seem to have contacted the seller and asked for more pictures. It's a bit scabby around the edges, and the paint is very very flat. To make it really presentable it would need a full respray as well as dealing with the scabby bits. The interior is quite good though. It's no surprise - if it was mint then it would be at least twice the price. I don't think it will fit in my garage as is. It's so close that it might if I took the bumpers off (is there such a thing as a power bulge in a garage door? ). Gonna have to get the tape measure out again...
