Pace slowed a little due to one of the builders getting COVID, so 2 weeks with no work going on. However that's passed now so they were back on it! Rear gable is up, front RSJ goes in tomorrow and most of the gable should be built.

That's got some useable length! A comment i used to get a lot when i worked in the adult entertainment industry, Sadly it was because i had a 100m extension lead to plug in to the catering van

Well I knew the progress was too good to be true! Engineering firm came out to measure and spec the beam for the front gable end, ordered and it arrived (you can see it in some of the images). Well builder came to install it......................TOO SHORT! 90mm too short in fact.
Someone didnt work by the measure twice, cut once rule. They did offer to cut and weld it, but I've insisted on a new beam.....The wait continues...

As a bridge Engineer, I can tell you that sort of thing, but on a slightly larger scale, is not as uncommon as you might hope! Can you cancel? If you can hang on for a month or so, I might have a suitable beam going spare/cheap Assuming the builders turn up to start the garage (oh yeah, and house) extension this week... Edit: And of course that is a lovely garage build. Does it mean you will be clearly the various car related articles from your parents place?

Well the builder was miffed at his engineers screw up and I certainly wasn't covering the cost. New beam arrives tomorrow, and the front gables should be done by the weekend. Hahahah If you as my Dad he will say it's all moving here..............It isn't, I am up there every weekend so the idea is for the GT to stay in their garage and move the bigger builds to mine.

Update time again. So it turns out the builder didn't measure for the beam.....Silly man. Oh well not my issue, so fast forward a couple of weeks and the new beam has arrived. Out with the old: In with the new and lifted into place....I never want to move one of these again :-) Gable could now be sorted and the rear bricks cut in. Decided to get a Year Plate made to break up the brickwork a little During the first lockdown my father being bored decided to rebuild a retaining wall at their property, said wall he originally built in 1986, this also had a year plate added at the time. As a kit (5 Years old) I was always fascinated by that brick, so when I nipped to drop their food off and was asked to look at the wall my immediate question was "Where is the 1986 brick". It was decided that they didn't want it putting the new wall, so I fished it out to be used as a door-stop...............Then I had a better idea. I know it will get more questions, but it seemed a shame to throw it out. Roofers due this week to make a start on felting, I'll then start to order the lights, consumer unit, toilet, floor paint and wood for the benches and toilet. Cheers.

Good Morning people. So there was a little pause in the build due to roofers being flat out.....even though roof tiles are in short supply due to COVID. Anyway they arrived at about 4pm (in the dark) worked till 8 to get the felting on, at least then it's water tight and I could get on with jobs inside. Felted roof (obviously). With the walls drying I was offered the use of a wall sprayer by the boss.....rude not to take that up. 1st Coat going on. Father inspecting the work. Currently how it looks. It's going to need another coat or 2 but that machine makes light work of it. As I type this the roofers are back and have done one side. Laying out for the other. It's starting to get to the point where I can fit it out, so I've ordered 10 5ft LED baton lights, 20 double wall sockets and associated conduit. Next week providing the roofs on, I'll get the insulation and OSB boarding up then the next inspection can go ahead. The side security door has arrived and I have just made an external cage, this can only be installed once the scaffold is down. A local door firm is supposed to be coming to quote early next week.....so fingers crossed it's a locked structure by Xmas. Cheers

No, brake rollers. I thought you mentioned earlier you were getting a set? ;-). Surface mounted Sir. The idea of 2 holes in the base may have caused some concern to the inspector, thinking I am running a business from here.

That is looking really good.
My builder said the same about tiles - we are currently waiting on concrete beams for the beam and block floor, with no delivery date given.
Can I ask where you obtained your security door? (Lathams?) Look good?
Unfortunately my build is going to have to re-use the existing garage door for budgetary reasons, but would be interested in hearing your experience with a local company. Next door had a Horman (I assume 'off the shelf') fitted - the door is great, the fitters were less so.
Wall spraying is a good idea - I spent hours splashing cheap white emulsion onto concrete blocks!
