And you didn't run it up the strip!!!! It’s not run in, and with the recent problems we decided to get it sorted first...... but it was £25 for RWYB and I made sure I had arm restraints. So if we hadn’t had the problems running up to the Gathering, we would have Definitely sometime next year!! There's a RWYB at the Pod later in October, and a colleague from work is aiming to have his 1915cc Beetle ready for that, and I might even take mine along too - fancy a go at that?

Few bits done. We replaced the fan belt last week, the one supplied with the alternator kit didn’t fit, we picked another the same up (but couldn’t check as we didn’t have it with us Erm.... yeah, that’s the problem then We then had a play with the seats And tried the Daihatsu one Erm They are ginormous!! So refitted the layback bucket CSP do a spring for the bell crank linkage, so got one and fitted that And readjusted the linkages Then onto the rear tyres The 235s are noticeably smaller diameter.... But even the 31.5s seemed small today Think they’ll still look big enough But they’ll look better than how we left it! Getting the tyres swapped in a high priority then! Ordered a few bits, and wightfug is sending us another pulley cover... which he doesn’t need since fitting the mx5 engine, but also because he’s selling his Fugitive 2 anyway forum.retro-rides.org/thread/210135/80s-uva-fugitive-sandrail-iow?page=1&scrollTo=2519468

Funny how even small seats seem humongous in s tiny car! It's gonna end up with MX-5 tombstones, isn't it? Probably a reason every other kit car has them. Other than easily trawled off eBay

I put an MX5 tombstone in mine (of course) - but it needed an enormous amount of butchering to get it in and get it low enough - very comfy but not very waterproof.
the issue is the width of the tubes, if you put the base on top of them it makes it too high.
In the end I bought a big polyprop one off ebay, modified it and took a fibreglass mould off of it.
The original Fug one on the passenger side is great for my daughter but really uncomfortable for an adult!

Maybe suzuki cappuccino seats will fit? Thw ones in mine were made out of leather from plastic cows and quite small. Most cappuccino owners have problems fitting any other seat in one. Measurements of one here.

Other than easily trawled off eBay I nearly bought some tombstones on a whim a while ago, then decided not too, and to be sensible..... then bought these on a whim!!

The Mx5 Mk3 seats look pretty narrow too. Those Suzuki Cappuccino seats do look interesting - and leather from plastic cows is exactly what is needed.

So when I saw an ad for some buggy bits in my town, I decided I should be brave and speak to someone So, yeah... I’ve been after another genuine starter motor to replace the one we let the smoke out of ages ago (and replaced with a pattern one) Confusingly they were all different... so after a chat, and finding out you have a drag racing bus half a mile away! (Well possibly, but for the sake of the story I’m saying so) We took a couple of them away Which may or may not be any good, but we can take them apart on the kitchen table anyway, and if we do it whilst Lucy is at work in the depths of winter, we can pretend we are working on the Fug whilst not getting cold (And it’s a physics lesson too ) So anyway, Hello It’s much easier to talk to people on the internet

[/stalker] #smallworld Photos of the Bus doing it's thing...Those starters were collected/salvaged over a number of years... Hopefully they still contain all their OEM factory-fitted smoke.

That's a shame as I took a good quality pair of MX5 seats to the tip about a week or two ago. Mind you... 1. they were fabric not leather or plastic so maybe no good for the Fug, and 2. I havent actually read all the posts pertaining to seats and may well have got the wrong end of the stick.

Guess I've sold mine cheap then

Bit of an update. Got cornered, so last weekend and this we’ve been painting the conservatory and decking Anyway.... Got the tyres swapped, so put the wheels back on They are a bit weedy as we are used to the all-terrains, but will see what they are like on there And going to resist modifying the rear guards for a while Then we’ve been playing with fibreglass! wightfug sent us a pulley cover (he’s selling his Fug 2... did I mention that ) So the chrome one we bought at VW Action can be played with. So we took a mould from it and are going to try and make a fibreglass one. I’ve never played with fibreglass, so after reading a book and buying a mould making kit, and then trying to work out which bit of the kit corresponded to which bit in the book we then filled the Louvre sin, so that the fibreglass wouldn’t flow in We used polyfiller stuff, mainly because that’s what I had lying about and that would clean back off around the holes, and clean off after making the mould. Painted the release agent stuff on, which in a couple of places didn’t want to stick to the chrome, so had to go over them (which then gave us brush strokes in the mould) The kit also came with some wax, so maybe that would work better?

I have used wax as mould release and it works very well. Apply it with a piece of cloth, let it dry for an hours and then wipe it with a clean piece of cloth. Best is to repeat this proces. After wiping, you cannot see the wax but it works well. I also use a kind of plastic clay that does not harden for mould making and filling thread holes. You tube also has a lot of videos about mould making
