You could try brake cleaner on the clutch plate, all depends how soaked in oil its got
With regard to the screen I was always told they had to be glass, all other windows can be plastic, something to do with reflections I think

The plastic/glass screen thing is more to do with wipers scratching the screen and making it impossible to see out of. Having said that, I've had coated polycarbonate which didn't scratch at all.
I guess the flywheel oil seal wasn't in quite all the way. Friction plate should clean up ok as it's not been sat marinating in oil for months. Thinners will clean it if you haven't got brake clean. Now is when I tell you that I drill an 8mm hole in the bottom of the bellhousing to let any oil leak out and not wreck the clutch...

Pretty sure friction plates are toast if they get significant oil on them. Might be able to recover it a bit boiling in biological washing powder for a bit, heard that can help as well as solvents Good luck with the fixing ! James

Yep, boil it in a strong mix of Persil* (full bio) for 1/2 hour - maybe change water after 15 mins with new Persil.
I've cleaned brakes this way before when they have had oil on them.
*other brands are available.

I would be tempted to create a frame for the screen itself from metal u section channel with a butyl seating strip to cushion between the screen and the frame, the mechanically fix the frame to the roll tube. this would give relatively low stress on the lexan as it is supported all the way around it's perimeter rather than at a few points. That's what I did for mine - but with 6mm laminate glass. I welded 3mm gussets in the frame and between the tubes in each corner. Then welded studs to the frame gussets and made holes in the tube gussets, bolts together in 5 mins. The wiper motor comes off with it. Glass sits on sticky glazing rubber and is silicone'd in.

Engine in!!! Very wet though Well done but you were in good company in the wet - I was up the road from you in Northampton single handle loading a car on to the trailer then dragging it back to my place - took forever and the rain was coming out of the lace holes on my boots - utterly soaked

Good luck with it, with this weekends weather that screen is going to be most welcome I think. Get some rain-ex on it as well.

We made it, we did tow the Fug with the car though The battery was flat and isn’t holding charge, so rather than messing about sorting stuff out before we left, we left early and stopped and got a battery en-route It was quite nice to be sat in a car with windows and doors when it rained on the M40, it’ll never catch on though Pitched up, and the suns come out

Perhaps I should bring the Disco, except it's decided to partially break (air getting into fuel line).

Nah, pretty much dried out after a day of sunshine by the look of it when we dropped in. James

I hope to see the Fug in a couple of hours - got a final bleed of the brakes to do, then grab some fuel and on our way about 8ish. I hope you'll be going up the hill today? Should be quite a change from last year with the new motor!

So, Friday night we went to change the flywheel oil seal, so of course it rained So we tried to make it a bit more bearable The weather got worse, so we tried again We dropped the engine, cleaned everything up and the clutch friction plate had got contaminated I’d decided to go and get another friction plate on my way home, so that saved us some time... will try to clean this one up still but at our leisure Had a thought that we didn’t check the end float when we swapped the flywheels. So we went and liberated the doorstop 1200 of its shims and checked it, had to get Denis to measure the shims with a micrometer as we couldn’t measure accurately enough... and though I could find a dti, I couldn’t find micrometer or mag base under pressure. But end float is definately ok now (0.1) checked with feeler gauges Got it back together, but ran out of time to run it up We made a decision to a-frame it to the Gathering and worry about it when we got there, if we had problems then we’d just leave it in the show. Saturday morning, found out the battery won’t hold charge so decided to just sort another en-route Stopped in Bromsgrove and sorted one, got to site, it was a bit muddy! And as the sun hit the fuel tank, the fuel expanded and started leaking from the fuel breather on the cap!!! We drained a bit out and it was fine for the rest of the day So this morning drove it round to the show field, it is blowing from one of the exhaust gaskets and needs some more setting up, but seemed fine. Drove to the paddock at lunch time and it started leaking again! Paul, the commentator came over and thought that the breather pipes were causing the crankcase to pressurise, advises us to move the breather pipe And it seemed to sort it! Ran up the hill and checked at the top and it seemed fine Ran back down and it leaked oil again, we were back in the queue again in the paddock, so cleaned it up again and ran up a second time, but called it a day before we broke it Think I overrevved it on the first run, GoPro video wasn’t very good, but think I hit nearly 7k, so not sure if that would cause it to pressurise a bit more? Quite a few bits to sort, but we can relax a bit and sort them at our leisure now, it’s VW action in a couple of weeks... but we aren’t going to stress ourselves out too much It’s a lot quicker though!
