And since it’s supposed to be cold this weekend, we have a plan in place for that too..... we are going to sort the heads out in the house... hopefully no one will notice engine parts in the house and we’ll get away with it My first engine build... Done in the corner of the living room of our rented house whilst my OH watched TV

I was complaining about it being cold in the garage as it was mid winter, and she said well bring it in the house then... I didn't ask questions and just got on with it We've spent evenings together sitting in front of a movie polishing wheels. yeah, just a 1641 with 34icts and a scat c25 cam. Nothing much but pulls okay for a cruiser.

Just don't get caught using the dishwasher for "outdoors projects" like I did Especially annoying since the heat from the dishwasher caused the that tank to stress fracture along one of the seams anyway She didn't care and I was in trouble for quite a while. Gets them fox-picture clean, mind

A friend of mines mum was doing the washing up after tea one night. She went to answer the phone and when she got back she carried on with the washing up. As she was finishing off she found a pair of DCOE carb bodies in the bottom of the bowl. Apparently it was fairly common - my mate said that he later saw them sat on the rack on the draining board and his mum had done a lovely job on them!

It was mentioned last night.... Started by suggesting we use the dining table, and I believe the end of the discussion resulted in me not having to live in the shed if we were caught doing stuff in the conservatory I also mentioned the dishwasher and the sink and received an emphatic and resounding NO!! So I’ll ask again another day

That information is entirely acedemic though

Was worried he was going to say something offensive Phew, driving shots are always better (I’d have sucked my belly in a bit more had I known I was going to be broadcast)

Not done masses today... But something is better than nothing! We dropped the valves out in pairs and relapped them in, they all looked fine so didn’t take long Cleaned the heads too A shot of the porting too Was warm inside, but the lighting isn’t very good! Cleaned the pistons too Also got a box of black plastic bolt and nut covers! The bolts on the top of the front dampers look a bit curse word to me, and I e been meaning to sort them since last summer.... so now we have no excuse (except we are at home and the Fug isn’t ) and we can tidy up some other fixings too

I also mentioned the dishwasher and the sink and received an emphatic and resounding NO!! So I’ll ask again another day How long have you been together - have you not realised that the answer is always to ask forgiveness after being caught than permission before

^^ Wise words there. Always easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission....😂😂

Little bit done.... Got a deep dish steering wheel to try, it’s a bit rough, but at £15 worth a try to see if it makes a difference to the driving position Also a couple more bits... hopefully we won’t lose our boxes of gloves anymore! Picked the flywheel back up, he said it was very hard because it had been affected by heat, but is flat now though the finish isn’t quite like new Today we unloaded the garage and started building And then had a massive hail storm, so ended up packing up again... But we cleaned and fitted the deep sump, and fitted the piston rings, really need a good dry day to crack on... but it’s still moving slowly

Last weekend we went to Brighton... spent all weekend looking for Scimitars, or something But today did some bits We got a tapered ring compressor tool, expensive, but so much better to use Than fitted the pistons to the barrels and then to the conrods Then got the heads on, and torqued up And also the doghouse cooler in that photo. A mate checked it was clear for us We fitted the CSP pushrod tubes, and they do look really good quality And then fitted the pushrods and the rocker shafts We then started fitting some tinware But the inlet manifolds don’t fit in the holes in the cylinder shrouds, so we left that for now rather than messing it up in a hurry.... but assume we need to stretch the holes a bit to make a bit more room But we thought we’d have a look at what it should look like Then turned our attention to the gearbox. A mate took the AH box we’d acquired, and we scored a AM box that will need some cleaning, but will be better suited to the 1300 when we get round to fitting it And also got a Autometer tacho for cheaps It has a broken display button But we’ve found a replacement switch, which looks a good match

Good work John and Tom! You'll need to open the head tins quite a bit - on mine I used some old single port ones because I knew I'd be chopping them up and I'd got loads of them! I ended up with one big hole for the manifold and both spark plugs, which was unexpected...

We fitted the CSP pushrod tubes, and they do look really good quality Loving what you're doing with your boy. And having been working on these engines at a similar age (and younger) with my mom & dad it strikes a cord. Last Sunday grizz & I were helping my son service his first car, it feels good. I must ask though, which one of the two you has the OCD tendencies that caused you to "clock" the pushrod tubes!! :-) (Don't get me wrong, I would have done the same)...
