One of my favourite bits when reading other peoples build threads is when they get to the list!!! You know things are getting fairly close when there is a list...... And we have a list Some of the things are a small amount of words for quite a bit of work, but even so..... Buggy list For MOT Fit engine cradleFloor panelMudguards Bars from frame horn to frame Fuel tapSteering stopsTighten steering armsReverse/fog lightNumber plate lightNumber plateReversing light switchFog light switch and legendHazard switchHorn legendFog light warning?Fuel hose supportedRear light connectorsHeadlight connectors At MOT... Tracking and camber Brake bias.... mot tester said they would probably tapley test, so as long as it pulls up square... it’ll be fine Handbrake balance, as above... as long as it holds the vehicle it should be fine! Headlight alignment We are hiking and camping tomorrow, maybe a bit later on Sunday.... But photos from tonight

My brother in law has hankered after a beetle for years, his Uncle had one and that sowed a seed.... Last year he bought one But his Uncle passed away a little while back, and his beetle was still in the garage, I think there was a fault and it got parked up and left, so Andy has just bought it from the estate Tax ran out end of October 1986! So it’s a real barn (garage) find He’s going up tomorrow to get it out of the garage for Shipley to collect.... so will be interesting to see what condition it’s in

I wanted to press the "like" button but was not sure if I should as the car was bought out a recent family estate. However I really like the Beetle. I never owned a Beetle but have started liking them more and more.
Cheers

Elephants feet and Europa bumpers but flat windscreen... one of the last pre-MacPherson strut Bugs before the SuperBeetle took over? Hopefully the garage was dry and it hasn't dissolved from the pans upwards

Just a quick FYI lights and mudguards are not needed for mot. Lights are an all or nothing situation if you have them, you must have all and all must work And how many fenderless rods are there running around Ttfn Glenn

We reckon we will need mudguards if we are going to drive distance in it, so thought we’d try to get them on first.... but if it’s not happening we could postpone

Couple of little bits done tonight, we’ve crossed them off above
and an MOT question, the hazard lights (along with everything else) only work when the ignition is on, is that ok? Or do they need to be on a permanent feed?

Hazard lights need to work with ignition off & on . Also need a tell tale light . Hopefully not long until your on the road . 😎 We wired it into the flasher unit, but I bought a second flasher unit for the hazards, and thought they needed to, so will rewire through that flasher with a permanent feed I thought the tell tale could be the indicator arrows on the acewell? (That’s how they are wired) Thanks

Yep , indicator arrows will be fine , as long as both sides flash together . (Guessing they will) . Yeah, fitted a double pole contactor block to the hazard switch, so can use a single flasher to make them flash together..... that bits easy it’s the regulations that are tricky

It's a Q plate, Hazards not needed. Or fog lights..
EDIT
Found my old notes (this was for the previous MOT rules, but pretty sure they can not change things retrospectively!)
For MOT
P9 b. Vehicles having a Q plate registration when presented for MOT are to be treated as follows: For emission purposes only, all these types are to be considered as vehicles first used before 1 August 1975 . . For all other testing purposes they are to be considered as being first used on 1 January 1971, ----------------------------------------------------------------- ii) The exhaust emission test for a vehicle first used before August 1975 is a visual check only. Vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1975 are also subject to only a visual check if they were manufactured before February 1975 (i.e. 6 months or more before August 1975)
Not needed
Fog lamp -This inspection applies to the one rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980. Side repeaters (after 86)
Hazard warning devices are not required on vehicles first used before 1 April 1986, but if one is fitted it must be tested. -- NB operates all the direction indicators simultaneously with the ignition switched both on and off.
Headlamps c. on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986, the ‘tell-tale’ illuminates when main beam is selected.
A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN or chassis number) is required on: 6.3 – page 3 Vehicle Identification Number kit cars and amateur built vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2001 all other vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980.

Aha, We’ll leave them fitted though, so they’ll need to work, hazards could be a handy addition We only need to move one wire and plug in a flasher relay to make them work correctly anyway Thanks

Hazard and reversing lights are handy, people really don’t seem to cope without them very well, fog lights not been tested without but we don’t go on fast roads too often in the fog. We have lobbed an old revolving light off an FLT in the boot just in case. Booked the mot yet ? James

James There isn’t anywhere to put one of those revolving lights but yeah, people can’t cope if you aren’t doing the normal.... so I think pulling over to sort something once we get it on the road could cause everyone else problems (besides, as a sparky electrical stuff comes fairly easily) No not booked yet I think after the weekend!

I bought another a-frame secondhand, it’s a motorhome car one, and has a cable that attaches to the brake pedal so it is legal to tow the fugitive with.... and it was £70 I got home early, and had a play (it’s not actually part of the fugitive, so decided it was ok to do it on my own ) So made a frame And cleaned it up, painted it and fitted the eyebolts So the frame fits like this.... And when not fitted, the front looks a bit tidier too Need to swap the bolts to the beam to m12 ones with nylocks, and will weld a tube from the frame to the beam mountings Then just need to fix a bracket to the pedal box and fit this cable, with the clevis pin to the brake pedal and the hook to the a-frame
