Was told the the MOT man wouldn’t pass cable clamps, so have replaced with a 3mm steel link Will make something up a bit nicer, but it needs to be M6 one end and M8 the other

You probably know this already , but you’ll need locking nuts on your adjuster .

Got home fairly early, so cut the lawns which earned enough points that we could go play Welded some brackets in and fitted the fuse and relay boxes And started connecting wires up (we’d already started when we took photos though) Then started soldering cables to switches Which gave us this And then wrapped the cables a bit to show Tom it will look tidied when we finish Also spoke to Mark at the forge today, and he is going to get some 38mm tube in and bend two bits for the engine cradle (and we can birdsmouth a couple of bits to go across. And also order some tube for mudguard supports too....

That's a lot of fuses... but then given your profession.

That's a lot of fuses... but then given your profession. It’s a 16 fuse box, and 4 relays...... But yeah I may have overdone it!

Does that handbrake have double cams? I have been looking for a replacement for mine but most are a single cam and need the 2:1 cable connector before the handle - and I don't have space without moving it all around. Some Minis have a double cable from the lever.

Some bits turned up, so we made a thing So we fitted the thing (after painting and coppergreasing)) And now, we think it looks a lot better! So we can think about hiding it now Maybe a bit tomorrow if I’m home in time, before we take it back to the farm

Got a bit done today, we carried on with wiring.... It started spitting first thing so we put the gazebo up, it then stopped and we spent the rest of the day sweating in a tent... took it down at about 7 and yup, it started spitting straight away One of the joys of working with a 12 year old is that anything can happen...... as a result when he wasn’t watching me, I’ve managed to get the indicator wiring messed up Was going to have a look but some ominous rumbles of thunder convinced me to come inside and drink beer instead But we sorted the wiring for a single reverse/fog light and a number plate light on the engine cradle..... unfortunately Mark hasn’t even ordered the steel yet, so we don’t have an engine cradle. So will see if we can maybe coax him into ordering this week... or have to find someone else to do a couple of 90degree bends in 38mm steel (if you know anyone around Buckinghamshire let me know!) Also fitted a battery clamp (Hoping a photo might save taking the bonnet off at MOT) But spent the day sweating and not taking many photos

We missed the rain, Lucy was at work and the hospital flooded.... but it drizzled at home, some good thunder and lightning though (Not my photo, stolen from Facebook) Had a couple of hours today.... Sorted the indicators, we are using a LED flasher relay, and it seems that the extra load of the lamp in the indicator stalk (I assume it’s an incandescent lamp) overloads the unit and stops it working, so disconnected the ground and it’s all good (there is a telltale lamp on the acewell speedo) We fitted the horn and the sidelights, need to tidy the wiring but they work Hopefully the sidelights will be ok, because anything else is too far in from the wheels And fitted mirrors We need to check the coil feed, and that the revcounter works (the starter solenoid engages but didn’t start it as Lucy was asleep) and that is the electrics V1.0 done (some changes I want to make already, so not going to go mad at the minute just want it functional) Ordered a couple of bits, and some mandrel bends from eBay, so will sort some tube out this week and try and make an engine cage when they arrive (it won’t be as tidy as we’ll have to weld either side of the bend, but should be ok) Try and start it tomorrow after work, and as Tom is on half-term crack on with a few more bits through the week

I really enjoy seeing how this is progressing, although it makes me feel a bit ashamed at my lack of progress.

Nothing like a 12 year old to drive you forward The mandrel bends turned up, I got a bit of welded tube yesterday and finished a bit early.... so we fired up the fizzy wand And made a jig That meant we made a frame And changed the tube across the rear, it was a 36mm tube not 38mm and it’s irritated us since it went in... I’d kept a bit of CDS specially But......somehow I got my measurements wrong, and there is a bar under the sump strainer! So we packed up and will fix it tomorrow (that tube could be a bit of 20mm box I have instead anyway as it’s only to keep the frame in line) Just need to tweak the o/s upright, as it’s not sitting central on the frame horns and frame tube, then tbs top will be welded (and later cut so we can fit a coupler) and the bottom tube will bolt with a link plate either side to the gearbox mount.

Engine cradle done (nearly) Welded a couple of strips for numberplate Welded an angled piece into the top tube for the numberplate light And a bracket for the light Then welded it to the tubes Then it decided to rain Few bits turned up Including a Mazda flasher unit, which we’ll modify the resistor to make it work with LEDs and fit when we start modifying the electrics

Really looking good! Can't wait to see it on the road. Out of curiosity, will this be making a visit to the RR gathering?
