With the lovely weather yesterday and the fact Iāve now made it down to the āalloys for the dailyā on my priority list I used my car time yesterday to spray up the fomb wheels in Montana hardcore gloss black. I gave them a wash with washing up liquid and a cloth first so didnāt use the wipes in the photo. The base from our old circular dining table makes a good height stand for wheel painting... One can used for one coat on all four alloys on the reverse side... Left them for about an hour while I tidied the house up and generally sat in the shade. Fronts ready... Done... I used two cans for the faces - one per coat - again with a gap for drying in between. The only issues were cases of nozzle splatter on two of the wheels possibly caused by me not shaking the can enough or leaving an uncleared nozzle a fraction too long. I also inadvertently left a couple of blades of grass on one of the wheels thinking it was marks from sitting on the grass rather than grass blades stuck to the wheel itself. If they flake off at some point Iāll give that area a quick respray. Theyāll do for the daily which spends 90% of its time dirty. Although that will hopefully reduce āwhenā I donāt have any other car jobs left to do. Paint cost was Ā£16.88 for 3 cans including delivery from graff-city, about 10% of the cost of full refurb and powder coat which i could get done if the Ignis ever becomes a show car rather than a daily. Just quoted to pull onto the next page. Did a wheel cheap on Friday too. Ā£1.00 Poundland gloss black. Though it was the spare, and two coats for the front, one blow over on the rear. Just for cosmetic fit in. Yours look a whole helluva lot better. And I do like those wheels. Iāve been tempted by the Poundland paints a few times but the need for prep and primer puts me off compared to ready to spray graffiti paints. I need some sating black paint, how much is the poundland paint? Poundland is a Pound. However, cans possibly 30% or thereabouts less than mainstream. Quality? Who knows, but for certain jobs, they are just fine. In the case of the Blazer spare, it really was just to do two coats over the silver and surface rust after I had cleaned and prepped. Actually did not primer either, as all the old paint is there. They do black, white and primer. However, I have never used or have no idea on graffiti paint spec. So happy to learn about real world experience

I gave the Ignis a wash (itās 3rd in 8 months of ownership) and a polish (itās first) on Monday night ready for its first service - 12,500 miles today. I dropped it off last night and have had the fun of driving the tofu mobile in this morning Wheels fitted tomorrow if all is well with the service.

Spare rear badge primered yesterday evening.... Three coats of mixed up rattle can suzuki neon blue metallic this evening... Above photo on itās painting board, below photo held against the tailgate next to the badge it will replace... Itās dark now but as far as I can tell the colour match is close enough to make the badge less obvious to give a cleaner tailgate from first glance.

Old badge prised off with a nail file... Caused a bit of damage on the edge that I prised against, in hindsight I could have drilled a hole and used leverage within the recess that the badge sits in, any way a Woolworths paint brush and takeaway lid to the rescue... Reverse of the badge adhesive warmed up with the heat gun on a medium setting, and fitted... Stand back and smile...

Wheels swapped, they sit nicely on the edge of the arches now. The fomb wheels are 15x7 ET28 compared to the original 15x5 ET40 wheels. Next job is to spray the centres black. Shots that show the look better albeit with tyre soap all over the shop... And cleaned up nicely but just a driveway shot...

That style of wheel might just pull off the body-colour look if you just do the spokey bits and not the outer rim. Leave the outer rim high gloss black to contrast the tyres. Something about the design of the car and the chunkiness of the wheels make them look a good candidate for a less usual approach on colour.

The thing I don't like about two tone wheels though is that it makes them look smaller than they really are, when moving just the spokes bit would appear to be the wheel and the dish / rim would appear to be the tyre.

True. I guess you'll have to polish the rims to make them look bigger then, or maybe white letter the tyres

That Proton looks far better than it has any right to.
I hope I do not appear rude but I have been bursting to ask this: Is the Suzuki's paint finish supposed to be satin?

If so, itās satin purely because nine times out of ten I mess up spraying bits at the lacquer stage. I decided to leave it after spraying the blue base coat as the colour match and finish was good enough to blend in. The rest of the car is as glossy and shiny as they come so not sure what you mean if youāre not talking about the rear badge?

Iāve added another bit of nostalgic modified Acty treasure to my collection after another eBay saved search alert. An issue of customcars magazine from 1979 featuring a Honda TN truck - forerunner to the Acty. Powered by a supercharged ford v6 and running a reversed jaguar S type rear axle. And from the national custom car show report ... So it was called Little Tuff Nut and was owned by a Dave Curtis. If anyone knows Dave or if heās still on the scene Iād be interested to know. Not sure how likely it is as this was 40 years ago but you never know.
