Couple more progress photos on the Acty.. And a reminder of how dented the front panel was and holey the arches were etc... Look how straight the front panel is compared to before. This is before any filler work. Rear tub visible in the photos too and now it’s all one colour you can see how nicely all the new panels down the sides integrate with the rest of the truck. Exciting times.

good to see progress... how long now till its in colour? Too early to say yet - metalwork is complete, light filler work, then primer, then paint left. Then for me to put the parts back together. Original target was 2020 show season so still looking good for that, potentially earlier but we'll see, depends on how it fits around other builds at the workshop.

Back to the Acty, and plans to box in the battery / spring box / hydraulic suspension pump as well as providing sounds at shows and some enclosed luggage space underway. I’m using the speakers that were intended for the elgrand - the tweeters were on the dashboard - but the 8” mid range didn’t get to the point of fitting. This time however I’m mounting them flush to the front face of the box so removed the outer rings... This is how they’ll be laid out ... I’ve positioned everything more to the right hand side as I need to cut 100mm off the board width, since the photo I’ve also decided to have the tweeters in line vertically rather than top aligned. As above just the cones will be visible through the holes in the board and I’ll do round over edges for the 8” drivers to meet up to the cone. The bullet tweeters already have that style built in so I’ll just rebate the back of the board to make the raised area meet up to the board itself. I’m planning a hinged clamshell top and front cover so that will protect and hide the speakers when driving.

now i am properly confused (easily done)... first , i thought the disarono bottle was just for scale , whats the plan & or significance? (i would have thought absibth would have been more appropriate!!)... second , where is the build going to fit exactly??

Disaronno because it’s my favourite drink and is a perfect colour match to the browns of the interior which I’ll be bringing to the outside in the form of the box. Location will be on the bed at the back of the cab to box in the battery and suspension kit that was previously exposed.

The mdf will be sealed and painted and waterproofed and there will be a lid and fascia that closes down and over the speakers like a clamshell. One complete it will be a show truck housed in the garage 350 days a year so I’m content all will survive. There’s always the potential of a load cover to make thing even more protected.

I wound the coilovers down a bit. I took another photo or two. RollHard show up next on Sunday at Bicester Heritage. Still for sale, might be able to pick it up from there if you arrange it.

Gathering bits for the Acty. Downsizing wing mirrors, original mount holes on doors being smoother over... Downsizing rear view mirror... Downsizing (but improving wipability) wipers... 1/2” adaptor... Rover mini wiper arms... 14” Bosch Aerotwin blades Bit shorter than before but what’s 3” between friends? Big thanks colnerov you got me out of a hole.

I'm liking the gutter peep mirrors, In regards to the wipers did you not consider a larger central wiper to replace the 2, or slightly left field choice some clap hand wipers that park parallel to the A-pillars ala Seat Leon.

I did consider a single wiper conversion but in the end decided to stick to simplicity and staying what I knew would work with the existing mechanism. There was too many unknowns in terms of a conversion, one being how it would fit under the dashboard.

Last night I did a bit more work on the box for the bed of the Acty. First the width of the base board was cut... I’m preferring to cut straight lines by hand at the moment. I then cut the holes out for the tweeters... The hole saws were the type with a separate collet that screws onto the drill bit, it worked loose one time and I had the good idea of holding a spanner on it whilst lightly turning the drill. Unfortunately I pressed the drill switch a bit too hard and the full speed drill turned the spanner more than my hand could hold and I nearly snapped my wrist! Play safe kids! I marked up the rear of the board so I can rebate a section for the tweeter to sit in so that the edge sits flush with the front of the board... Whole board now all holes are cut... I had my first visit to the body shop for a good few months this evening, to do some measuring up for my box, but also took the chance to get photos of the whole truck with the bulk of the custom bodywork done. This is the first time I’ve seen it with all four of the image wheels fitted and with it able to sit at full drop. To say I’m pleased is an understatement. Still bits of prep to do obviously and then the paintwork which will be completed to plan before the start of next show season but the main thing is that the overall look which i had planned for ages all looks “right” together and will hopefully look factory to people who have never seen an Acty before - or even those who have will just think it’s a different variant of Acty. Photos then...

When I went to the bodyshop I also measured up for how the base board fits in with the edges of the back of the cab and where the spring box and hydraulic pump sit. Board marked up... I’ll cut out a hole for the spring box and hydraulic pump and put a board higher up to sit over the top of the spring box and the pump.

The proton looks the business now it's had another coil off the rear. I got custom springs for my 106 from www.dfaulknersprings.com/ if you're ever thinking of replacing the cut's, they were really cheap from what I remember (~£30 each?)
