Another few hours on the build yesterday, although not many photos to show for it as it involved lots of redoing bits until they sat better and the photos seemed to end up looking exactly the same. Crates out... Edges of removable lid cut so it sits within the fixed lid section... Then with a stencil and router set to relevant depth I recessed the lip of the removable lid ... Testing the heights with a spare cut off... The liftable section was slightly here in above photo so I used the mouse sander on the recessed lip of both pieces until it was more flush... With it open, you can see how the cut on the bottom edge of the removable lid went a bit off straight in places but I’ll fit a long hinge along that section which will hide that... I spent the next few hours widening fixing holes and adjusting recessed on the base board and the side panels so that the box will be able to lift in place on the truck as one piece - I need to make sure that I can build it off the truck and fully waterproof it before fitting it back in position once complete - only the fixed and hinged lid will be separate sections that can be removed for full access to speakers / batteries / amp etc. Only photo to show for that was testing the recess was low enough to fit washers and nuts on the captive bolts... The spike nuts will be swapped for hex nuts but they’re the first M8 nuts I find whenever I’m looking for some. More progress soon hopefully but all the rain we’re having isn’t good for working on MDF outdoors!

Like this idea, you might wanna work out a leg system that would allow you to fit them into the sides of the box and drive the truck out from underneath. If that makes sense

Thanks spudmab yes I know what you mean as the camper bodies come with legs that hold them up separately. That gives me the idea to put some ring bolts into the base though so I can winch it up to the garage ceiling to remove from the truck rather than carrying it off manually.

Are you wood boarding over this or having a material covering it? I only ask as if it's the latter (vinyl or carpet or whatever) will you need to take a bit more off the lid so you can fully wrap the material around the rebated section to pull it tight, and it still sit down flush?

Wood stain to make it dark brown (which will pretty much absorb into the MDF) and yacht varnish to waterproof it but good point though as that will make it a fraction thicker so I'll go round it a bit more with the sander. Cheers

With the “daily” not being required to get me to work and back it gave me the opportunity for a few more tweaks that previously I didn’t want to do in case I ran into issues and was left without transport to get me to the office. Presenting a box of shiny coilovers by BC racing... Measuring pre swap gap from edge of tyre wall to arch as it was a convenient pair of points to measure to... Torrrential rain arrived to make the job that bit more annoying, I was drenched right through even though I sheltered in the garage when it was at its heaviest... The biggest impedance to the job was the rusted out bolts on the ARB drop links on a car less than two years old. Luckily the kit came with a new shorter pair and I did wonder if part of the reason for including a new pair was because of the expectant damage of removing of the standard ones. Each side required the aid of the angle grinder and die grinder to chop off the bottom bolt... I reckon about 50% of time spent on each side was just trying to remove the drop links. The kits really impress me as they have the direct equivalent of fittings as the OE struts in terms of the brake hose / sensors... I sprayed this stuff over the areas that had rusted on the standard setup to try and reduce the likelihood of getting issues in future... 30mm lower before I’ve made any height adjustments with coilovers but I’ll play until I get a practical level of lows The opposite side is a repeat of the first, albeit with the addition of removing a bracket that holds some electrical component - possibly ECU - above the passenger side strut top. I saved the rears for another day but had a quick look in the boot and the strut tops are accessible through flaps in the boot liner so don’t require any removal of full interior panels to access which I’ve seen previously. So rear should be just a case of top nut then bottom nut to swap strut and pop the old spring out and new in.

I've always liked these but could never get on with the rear side styling, I'll tell you what though lowering it makes it look soooo much better. Looks mean, brilliant!

You have done well.
I loved the Ignis from day one when they launched them.
You make the want stronger and stronger.
And your step by step tutorials are absolutely awesome, taking a lot of the Voodoo out of processes.

And your step by step tutorials are absolutely awesome, taking a lot of the Voodoo out of processes. step by step are more of an "How I did it" rather than "How to do it". There could be all manner of sins in there but my methods seem to get the job done but always happy to be redirected if I've made blazing errors in my spannering.
