Unfortunately the bucket seat I fitted collapsed lust like the MG one! Happened to see some MX5 seats locally for £20 so snatched them um. Fitted one tonight and is decent, will fit the other and get pics Also I didn't trust the TIM boost gauge so after consulting with the gurus on the forum ordered a VDO one which is much more accurate however has revealed that the boost is quite laggy and I'm only running 3psi max (4k up a hill in 4th!), My first guess is a boost leak as I can hear the turbo spooling up but just taking a while to show on the gauge. Need to make a leak tester out of some pvc or something... Any other guesses? did you manage to find a uk supplier for vdo boost gauges ? I'm looking everywhere... but they are all either in australia or latvia, with huge postage costs cheers Well I think I was just lucky as I got a second hand one, to be honest it wasn't that much cheaper than the Latvian import ones so I guess there isn't a UK dealer!

The van has been boosting fine throughout the winter, but I desperately need to give it some cosmetical love as the elements have taken their tole and the exterior is looking a bit rough, hopefully a good clean up and a wax will sort it. The weather has just been horrendous down here in Devon, including 6ft snow drifts! The only thing I've done to the van is mount the back box on properly and finished it off with a little upswept pipe, ideally want a shotgun style exit but that will have to wait! Have also got my Scirocco back on the road as I can insure them both for the first time because my insurance price has dropped a bit. However it doesn't feel significantly faster than my van now I've added the snail..! On the list of things to do is get it tuned up and see what my afr levels are and what power its making! And also get some tyres for the polished wheels and get them back on.

Where in Devon are you as in the not too distant past I have seen both a Scirocco and a Maestro Van in my neck of the woods. I need a double van pic when my Astra van is ready.

Van passed its MOT today with flying colours despite having to bring extra wood to get it on the ramp! Might be taking it to the Retro Cars Daily meet at Cheddar Gorge this Sunday (24th) so going to give it a bit of a tidy up before then...

So gave the van a wax last week and decided to give the bonnet a quick mop as it looked a bit patchy. Didn't realise how non-white it was, must be from the salty curse word roads over winter! Also mopped and waxed the scirocco so got a pic of them together in the lean to. My mate TopJobHobNob gave me a turbo intercooler badge off an old Vauxhall so stuck that on now to make it official, but added the capacity so people know its only a 1.3! (excuse the dirt) Out of interest I did a 0-60 test with an app on my phone whilst driving the Scirocco, and although the engine is pretty knackered it did a 9.5. This made me laugh as it means my van is only half a second slower as that does it in 10 seconds flat! and it still needs a tune ( van used to do it in 16.5 N/A, I love turbo's!)

Does the carb work in a similar way to mechanical diesel pumps for turbo diesels, a tapered pin and diaphragm etc? I'm really curious to see what power you're making, lets hope it sees the magic triple digits 8)

I'm really curious to see what power you're making, lets hope it sees the magic triple digits 8) Its slightly different, its more the rising rate fuel regulator that adds more fuel as it just runs of the boost pressure. Yeah that would be the goal but I don't think its going to be quite that good, heres to hoping though!

Van is now at the tuners. He is very experienced and seemed happy it would take about 10 psi with my spec, but will see..
Cant wait to see what its like!

Just don't wrap it round a lamp post on you way home!!
It may be like a completely different car when you get it back.

haha I'll be careful!
Okay so they called me to say its done so going to collect it tomorrow. I had to ask them what power it got.... it made it to the magic 3 figures! Only just, but got to 103 at the fly which I'm over the moon with, especially considering that's a 40 bhp increase from N/A at 63! All I know is that the boost has been adjusted but don't know what to, can't wait to collect it now...

Okay so picked up the van today and although I knew it had hit the 100 bhp mark I was blown away by the torque figure. Its definitely made a difference behind the wheel, second gear is the best as its when the turbo has time to spool. When you hit about 3k its like being pulled like a train! I mean sure its probably not actually that fast in reality but boy does it feel fast now. Looking at the before and after figures I've gained 40 bhp at the fly which has more than doubled my original figures at the wheels! Can you tell when the turbo comes on... The tuner has set the boost to 8-9psi (dependant on the load) and re-profiled the needle to suit as well as tweaking the timing to get it spot on. Now its back to that smell of a perfectly tuned engine Tyres have turned up for the front so will get them fitted to the summer wheels asap as ive got a terrible wheel wobble on the Volvo wheels at the moment. BEFORE AFTER

It might not be mind blowing figures sure, but I can appreciate when you’re used to a certain amount of power, then its doubled, it feels amazing. Fair play for sticking with a “suitable” engine and not being tempted to look elsewhere for the extra power

Well done on all this - its now rare and very usable without being over done with an engine swap

I spent some time today sorting out some niggles on the van today. These included fitting the gold wheels to the front, sealing an exhaust blow right at the front near the downpipe so the whole exhaust had to come off! And replacing some fuel hose that had already perished. I swear rubber nowadays is curse word! Have literally done 2000 miles over 4 months and already the fuel hose had perished badly, luckily I spotted it. Although it was two small bits so not too difficult I feel like I should replace all the bits I used just in case. I have been recommended Gates stuff if anyone has had any experience? Wasn't sure on the wheels when putting them on the van... but once I stepped back outside and saw the whole vehicle overall I think they'll ad an ijection of colour to an otherwise monochrome Van! And they inkeep with my JDM styling on an English van haha Still have a bad wheel wobble though so thinking it might not be wheels as this is the third set I've had on the front... any clues?? Doesn't seem to have a set speed sometimes it will be fine at 71 mph and sometimes it will wobble at 71 mph. I also managed to get some footage doing a couple passes, enjoy!
